Worth or not it depends on what you need to use this phone for. The Note 3 is already a very good /excellent phablet. Its biggest strengths are in its better camera and S Pen ( if you need such). This HTC One Max is now my only Android phablet and since acquired it has already sold off my Note 3 and Xperia Z Ultra. I am very satisfied with it until yesterday ( upgarded to KitKat) - read my comments way below
This HTC One Max has a lower spec processor S600, poorer camera but beats the Note 3 convincingly in audio quality
I have posted before some benchmark figures an now reposting it . If benchmark is important and you play a lot of games, Note 3 might be a better choice

Here are some of the benchmarks recorded. As expected this phone loses out to the S800 chip found in Xperia Z Ultra and Note 3. Gamers might find this phone to be slight disappointing in performance. Anyway I don't play any of those high end games except Scrabble mainly. Other than that this phone can easily match the other two in general usage and seriously did not notice it to be any significant slower than the other 2 phones in other tasks

AnTuTu : 26525 vs 32005 ( note 3) and 31376 ( XZU)

Quadrant : 12454 vs 20947 ( Note 3) and 18531 ( XZU)

NenaMark2 : 60.5 fps vs 60.3 fps ( Note 3) and 60.0 (XZU)

Vellamo - HTML5/Metal : 2574/761 vs 2797/1077 ( Note 3) and 2950/1125 ( XZU)

3D Mark Ice Storm Extreme : 6968 vs 18234 ( Note 3 on IS Unlimited as Extreme was deemed too low n figure exceeded its limits) and 10891 ( XZU)

GeekBench 2 : 2978 vs 4054 ( Note 3) and 3697 ( XZU)

GFX Bench on Egypt HD Offscreen : 4698/42fps vs 7648/68fps on Note 3 and 6746/60 fps on XZU

Absolutely no such issues on my and friend's unit. Has only heard one HTC One guy ranting that he did see such in another gut unit. This problem very rare and not even talk much about at forum XDA

Update to KitKat upgrade : Battery life seems to be even better --- battery drain overnight yesterday over 7 hours only 1 % vs 2-3% previously. Need more observation to be conclusive on this point

The upgrade to kitkat on HTC One Max is overall disappointing. Unlike Samsung, HTC had not fix the write issue on external SDcard and gave us a half baked firmware. Now you cannot write to ext sdcard at all - eg copying files from internal memory to ext sdcard, using apps such as SMS Backup & Restore, WiFI File explorer, EAS backup which has option to save data to external SDcard.
HEck ! - you cannot even transfer files among folders in ext SDcard nor can you even delete any files on external Sdcard...It is really troublesome that now you need to take out the ext sdcard and do such stuffs on the PC with ext card inserted into any card reader. The versatility of ext Sdcard in this phone is now greatly diminished and now is darn inconvenient to use
HTC - please give us a fix to this. If Samsung can do it for their Note 3 KitKat, why not HTC ??
I am using a Sandisk 64 GB Class 10 card ( fat32 formatted ) with this phone

This issue is heavily discussed here :

HTC had dropped the standard SOT notice that you commonly see in other Android such as Sony, Samsung, Nexus etc
To view your ST , use a 3rd party app such as GsamBattery Monitor

is gimmick feature as it is wrongly placed being at the back
my accuracy using it ranges 70-80% so as a daily tool is useless n only good to show off!!
at launch day the product manager just mentioned it n he didn't even demo it probably fearing it will not work the first time

i'm only using the fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone..

for other apps, i rather access them from the lock screen.. haha..

but I am pretty amazed with the sound.. its pretty sweet and full..

I'm upgrading from note 2 and I must say, this is a pretty surprisingly good phone to use.. no complaints and no regret..

Oh, are there any changes from Jellybean to Kitkat?

Upgraded directly to Kitkat without using JB long enough.

Kitkat is a lousy upgrade . It disable the write features on ext sdcard n i have commented in these in earlier posts.
JB is already very good without it. Sense still remain as 5.5 n not 6 in kitkat
Kitkat has now made this an excellent phone into a handicap one

Not only this app, many other apps cannot write onto ext sdcard. HTC is silent on this. We hope they can give us a fix as what Samsung had done on the Note3. Meanwhile live with this problem
