after some reading, I finally understand what do you mean here joytest. thanks.

but one thing I still don't quite understand is, is our stock rom odex or deodex rom?  rclxub.gif

there are both odex and deodex version for me to download. I'm sticking to the DMC3 rom, which introduced in March 2013. any final piece of advice before I proceed please?  tongue.gif

If you are flashing the whole ROM, choose a deodexed pre-rooted version. You can change the kernel later. Default is odexed. All custom ROMs are deodexed.

You can flash Assassin that allows you to change whatever you want.

Hi all,

I noticed that for my wifi icon, the download orange arrow and green upload arrow is always ON... means there is download and upload activity ongoing...

Any idea to check what data is being transferred or which app running it?

I am worried some app is leaking my privacy info...

Thanks.
*
If you are that concerned, root your phone and install Xposed Framework and Xprivacy mod.

Otherwise ensure you have checked the correct sync settings. If you check to sync your pics and you've taken a lot of pics, there will be large uploads.

IINM you can install some firewall apps to see exactly what's getting sent but I'm not familiar with those.

I just downloaded the official rom from sammobile, which I believe is odexed. So do I have to download again the pre-rooted rom on xda, from post 7?

You introduced me another new term here "assassin", what does this assassin do? rclxub.gif

Actually reason why I download all these official roms is only because I wanna do a nandroid backup only. I'm already on stock rom,  but I flashed the kernel before I backup only. But only if I can undo my kernel, then I don't even have to download the official rom, but it's okay, I saved it as another form of backup smile.gif
*
A nandroid backup is a function of the Recovery, not the ROM. If you just want to perform a nandroid, then flash either CWM or TWRP RECOVERY.

Assassin is a custom ROM that allows you to customise almost every part of the installation process, ie choose kernel, choose frameworks, install bloatware or not, default launcher grids etc.

If you haven't already, please also read post 6.

I understand that. I rooted and flashed CWM. But before I can do a nandroid, aren't i suppose to keep my phone just rooted, with recovery and everything else stock? Be it rom or kernel and etc?

I'll read more about the assassin. Really thank you for your effort in guiding me.

By the way, your home screen really look like a newspaper, so many columns.  Haha.
*
Usually a nandroid is to backup a phone at a point in time. If you just want to ensure your phone is fresh like factory state, then just keep a stock ROM handy and flash it in anytime you want. Your phone will be just like brand new.

You should perform a nandroid of your phone as it is, and keep that safe for when you perform new ROM flashing. Make a nandroid before every flash. And please backup your EFS partition as well.

No that is not my homescreen. Just sharing some stuff I found.

Glad to hear that. Which section in particular helped you revive your Note 2? Will be good to know.

Thanks.

Guys,

If i want to root only, i no need to worry about the EFS folder right?
*
If you've already rooted, might as well back up your EFS folder using the GN2 Toolkit.

dolphin is used because of the desktop agent, can make the browser sees the same thing as desktop browser.
*
I though you can do the same for the stock browser as well, if you change one of the CSC settings, or run one of the mods that allow you to change some settings. There's a "Desktop view" tickbox.

currently using note 2 for almost 1 years plus.... hopefully note 3 can beat z ultra , or else will switch ship
*
Note 2 is only about 10 months old at the moment tongue.gif

Actually Z Ultra's advantage is basically the huge screen, with at-a-pinch stylus input. Otherwise the rest are the same as anyone else, since the SoCs are all the same.

If the ZU drops to around 1700-1800, it will be extremely compelling.

Autodesk has a couple of sketch apps, you could try them. I've seen some posts of nice sketches from artistic people. If you're artistic I'm sure you can draw some nice stuff as well.

You could have a "cosmetic" brush style whistling.gif

Wanted to know. How often you guys use the stylus?
Because i'm choosing between S4 and Note 2 for my phone replacement...
*
Apart from just stylus, it's the screen size. I can't honestly go to anything smaller.

However, it seems >50% do not use the stylus all that much, while I do. I use it mainly for note scribbling like a paper notepad.

If you are rooted, Titanium Backup. If not, then SMS Backup+ or similar programs that backup your sms to Gmail. Otherwise there are those that backup to sdcard.

I don't remember, perhaps it's called SMS to SDcard or something like that. Google is your friend.

Isn't the phone will be too big to hold by one hand and put in pocket?
*
*Won't*

If you wear skinny jeans, it will be a tight fit and you can't sit down.

Otherwise, once you've used a large screened device, it will be difficult to revert. One handed holding is fine. Have you noticed how many women use the Note 2?

You can use slim back covers and the phone will only be marginally thicker although then you might as well use it naked, not that I'm recommending that you do.

Fits nicely in office slacks.

Any backup apps can backup app and data like tibu without root ah?

When you need to backup data on a linux/unix system, you need root access, since linux/unix enforces strict read/write access depending on user. No luck if you're not root.

Thats bad. Plan to get a HTC BS but not plan to root it anytime soon. So wanna find a solution to backup.
Backup apps plus the apps data not possible without root ? Not the system data
*
On unix you have the /home directory which is for you and most programs let you save there. In android it's /data/apps or something that resides in the system partition that cannot be accessed without root, unless it's in Android/data.
