“Don’t tell me what can’t be done. When Matt Busby brought me here, they told me we’d never make a go of it, that it couldn't be done. That Manchester United would never make a success. Told us we couldn't win the league, playing kids. Told us we couldn't match the best teams in Europe. And every bloody time we proved them wrong, so with respect sir, it can be done, it will be done, I’ll make sure of it.” - Jimmy Murphy

I like how Moyes changed his fashion style at United. Previously always in tracksuit at Everton, now its suit and tie. wub.gif

Its a friendly. Relax. In Moyes we trust.

It's not a friendly, it's a testimonial. You don't lose a testimonial match. In front of your own fans too.

EDIT: what i'm saying is that united fans have reason to be worried, so for people to be brushing off all these poor friendly performances is really mind-boggling. If the score is shit, no problem. Problem is the performance is shit too and the supporters see it

Horrible united ... I think will end in 5th or 6th places in this coming epl.

And crash out early in the CL and FA cup. Carling cup may be till last 8 ...

Well, tomorrow will be his competitive debut. We'll judge him after that. I guess the likes of Evra, Rafael and RVP were rested for this match.

And surely he has to realise that Anderson and Cleverley cannot play together.

Time and chances given to SAF when he just arrived are rarely seen nowadays. But I do believe the United board plan to do so, with SAF's faith in Moyes, and him being given 6-year contract.

Now that's quite some time, and I don't expect him to be cut loose even after, for example, 2 seasons of under-performing.

Normally at other top teams, a season without trophy, you're out, except for Arsenal. No one knows what's going on there.

Now football is about money , money and money compare the 80s

I doubt united afford to be finish 5th for few seasons and without CL football

IMHO, those two can play together, but only with another player behind them as cover like Carrick. If only those two, it will spell disaster as neither is discipline

enough to stay behind if the other one is going forward. Even if either does that, both are pretty lightweight and not really workaholic defensively.

Moyes need to learn fast. Don't get me wrong, I will stick with him no matter what but he need to learn a lot especially in handling the transfer dealing. Never in my life I've seen SAF going public on his transfer target. Most of it, papers deduce who the target is.

Moyes lack the aura that SAF got. He needs to build it with his current crop of players. And add his ex-players to United as they are the only one that wants to play with him. Bring Fellaini, Baines & Gibson tongue.gif Swap Buttner to left winger.

And hope for the best.

how many times must the fans tell themselves 'its only a friendly'?

bad result is bad result, just hope moyes had enough of testing strategies and formations. get the transfer targets in asap, and move into gear. our first few months of the league campaign will be crucial.

Game the day before the charity shield, of course the team won't be the strongest one available. Add injuries into the mix, and this result isn't the end of the world. Wish it was better, but it's a small game in the scheme of the season as a whole.

All in all, things so far are hardly unexpected... new manager and his backroom team coming into familiarize themselves with the team SAF tweaked over years.

Agreed about signings though, hope to see some news before the window shuts.. although in fairness he is in a spot. Why?

Sign "weaker" players and he will get flamed for signing "everton quality players" instead of "stepping up". Even afroman signing rumours was already getting comments of that kind from some quarters.

Signing big name players isn't easy though, since it's the season before the world cup, and DM is not SAF... most "big" players would rather wait a season and stick with their existing teams to see how DM and the club handle the transition, then decide after the world cup. Otherwise they run risk of moving to a team in transition, doing poorly, and falling behind for selection. Kind of the same reason why Rooney is (true or false) rumored to want out?

One thing to add.

A lot of people (myself included) were surprised when he mentioned trying to sign Fabregas, whereas SAF would have (probably?) kept quiet until the contract was signed or close to it. But how can we compare the two? SAF was a giant who could ignore any amount of fan worry (like he has been doing for years for our CM) because he had the weight of his record to back him up, and by hook or by crook, he found a way to win.

DM doesn't have that "credit" in his account, so maybe he mentioned the attempted signing to be transparent about being serious about wanting to sign big players, but it isn't as simple as snapping your fingers?

If you think about it, how many of our big signings were "difficult" or controversial in the sense the selling club was reluctant but the player wanted it and they caved in after getting the maximum possible price? Off the top of my head, Yorke, Ferdinand, Rooney, Hargreaves, Berbatov....

Comparing SAF and DM so directly in the 1st pre-season, especially after David Gill also left.... is only going to end up with a lot of unhappiness smile.gif

well, the whole EPL was shocked with JM's continental style back then. the only people who can counter their football were liverpool(under benitez), portsmouth (under redknapp) and everton (under you_know_who whistling.gif ) others was pretty much bulldozed by chelsea

With world cup around the corner, I would love to see Rooney being bench the whole 2 years of his remaining contract. That would make my day.

You don't lose a testimonial match?

1) Gary Neville's Testimonial against Juve: United lost 2-1 at home.
2) Ryan Giggs's Testimonial against Celtic: United lost 4-3 at home.
3) Bryan Robson's Testimonial against Celtic: United lost 3-1 at home.

And you were saying? smile.gif

I don't expect every supporter to back Moyes, there will be some butthurt or bashers which is pretty normal. What I cannot stand is, fans turning their backs on the manager when his very first competitive match only starts tonight? Some may disagree that a friendly should be won or whatsoever. Of course it is important for us to win friendlies, but whatever the outcome, just accept it like a man and treat it as a stepping stone in a new United era. Moyes is merely trying out tactics and formations that may suit us so I am not so worried of the outcomes of testimonials and friendlies because at the end of the day, Moyes is SAF's choice. You don't expect miracles or instant impact like what Chelsea fanboys brag about Mourinho during his first season at SB.

It's true that Moyes is not 'attractive' enough for some players, but it does matter. Give him time to build a reputation and stop bashing.

context bai... context...

you don't lose a testimonial match as in you don't answer 1 + 1 = ? wrongly. of course sometimes you have brain farts and you answer wrongly, but that doesn't mean it's acceptable to answer anything else but 2.

basically what i meant was you don't purposely lose a testimonial match. you will want to win it. understand ke bai
