Now I just have to ask.
How bad is the screen compared to others of the same resolution? Let's say...11" Air?

All these things about screen quality and all, what I find most of the time TBH is that when you're using it on its own generally, even if it's not the best, but if it's decent enough you'll be alright with it. Just make sure to get it color calibrated.
You only feel the "pain" and what not when you place it side by side with a screen with more punchy contrast and close hue to the blue (since those in general give the illusion of quality/pretty etc). |

Ah, but thats the thing isn't it. When your screen washes out by just moving your head within 5 degrees, no amount of calibration is going to help you. The manufacturers expects you to freeze your head in the perfect viewing angle, or else you find the display fade out.
When you are stuck with a screen with a maximum brightness of less than 200 cd, no amount of screen calibration is going to help you. Forget punchy contract or close hue to blue - A bad screen calibrated is just a calibrated bad screen. |

true , probably if u want infinite viewing angle screen , u probably need more than 3k for an ultrabook and 4k for a conventional high spec notebook .
And probably if u have infinite viewing angle , probably the max brightness level and screen contrast + screen color will come along also . theres only 2 types of screen , good and bad . |

Hence my statement "decent enough", aka at least reaching the few minimum criteria. Not those horrible ones as what you mentioned. When you are stuck with a screen with a maximum brightness of less than 200 cd, no amount of screen calibration is going to help you. Unfortunately, the horrible viewing angle that I talked about is present in the K46CB, the V5-473PG and even the Y410P/Y400.
In fact, pretty much most laptops by Asus, Acer or even Lenovo all have a rather horrible viewing angle. Off by a few degrees is enough fade out the screen. So either you fix your viewing angle and strain you back, or you accept the fade outs and strain your eyes. The point is this. Good quality TN screens have always been available, or if not, readily available now. Why is Acer, Asus, Lenovo, in fact more of them not putting them in their products? When the IPS V3 came out, manage to sold off the stocks (even charging full retail price) within a few days - Because our customers were blown away by the screen. I remember them asking why we don't sell more laptops with better screen, and we pointed out that we do (just so happens, those were MacBooks). What did Acer do? Sorry, no more V3 stocks they tell us, and we are back to the whole crap screen situation again. |

Most likely they see no reason to sell the more expensive IPS with maybe lower margin and slower moving inventory? |

Of coz the manufacturer did put High Quality TN or IPS in their laptop but of coz not in 2k-3k range with GT650 or 750 , coz they ve been giving u great I7 and great GPU in such low price , what do u expect for screen quality ? for chassis aluminium ? for good cooling system ? no way , they wont do so much for u in a low price . Good example always Lenovo .In fact, pretty much most laptops by Asus, Acer or even Lenovo all have a rather horrible viewing angle. Off by a few degrees is enough fade out the screen. Lenovo Y410P - Haswell, 750M with DDR5, Horrible Screen quality We always, almost always hear stories about how Apple's Macbook and Acer laptops were actually manufactured in one big factory in China, so what is the problem for them actually trying to get better components into their laptop? All we hear in the news are the manufacturers moaning that they are losing sales, and blaming everyone but themselves. Apple created demand by making quality laptops, so why can't Acer, Asus etc do the same? I mean, in total, my friend and I got 5 of the IPS V3 stock from Acer, and we had no problem selling it even though priced at RM2899. Without better screen, and one would argue, better body construction, is there any hope of attracting the ones that have decamped to using Macs, or even worse, those that got retina macs? |

Especially like series 7 and series 9 , one good example would be samsung series 7 chronos 770z5e , which unfortunately only limited release to a few country , not include in malaysia .The rest? Just bought this model yesterday. I got the Rose coloured one, which I find pretty nice and unique, compared to the grey model.
Overall the built quality is quite good. The hinge is tough. The shallow keyboard needs some getting used to (at least for me la). There is no Optical Drive & the battery is non-removable. This post has been edited by kiasuXD: Aug 7 2013, 06:16 AM |
