QUOTE(nexus2238 @ Oct 4 2013, 11:01 PM) iinm, Lite-on is one of the largest OEM supplier of SSD. it's new. But what for need so fast for boot speed. That one comes last in my list. heheheheFor example, Plextor SSD is manufactured by Lite-on. LCT-256M3S (this Lite-on is actually slightly faster than as the old Plextor M3) We normally won't find Lite-on SSD on retails, but in laptop (eg. lots of Dell models use Lite-on SSD). Rock steady firmware. May want to make sure it is brand new unit, and not some salvaged parts |

QUOTE(ErgoProxi @ Oct 5 2013, 12:21 PM) 120gb is enuf ? Definitely enough if you link your downloads and music to other hard drive. I had to move all WINRAR & IDM temp storage to HDD to make enuf space for OS & few games. Now I'm using HDD with Photoshop and other storage eating Programs installed to HDD. Going to pickup a new PSU today for my Second hand GC (GTX 470 might as well pickup a 128gb ssd as dad is paying |

Add me into the SSD users!
Just bought a Kingston SSDNow 120GB! Use it under Sata 2 Port as mobo doesn't have SATA 3. Will be getting a Pcie card soon! |

QUOTE(Shengz @ Oct 9 2013, 11:03 AM) I reckon that is not a good investment. stucking in sata 2 isn't cool. Read a lot on the web that, mostly are running Marvell chipset and Marvell does not support trim. And a lot of PCIe x1 sata 3 controllers are junk, a good one PCIe x4 comes with hefty price. Better keep the money for next upgrade and use the current native sata2 intel controller. Unless you transferring GBs of data everyday. Max dy. Read speed still can go, but need sata3. so you sure its not good? Because i want to try a used usb 3.0 and sata 3.0 card. if i can't use the sata 3, i can use the usb 3.0 This post has been edited by Anonymous34: Oct 9 2013, 10:51 PM |

QUOTE(Shengz @ Oct 10 2013, 09:15 AM) You using what mobo & proc now? Mobo: Gigabyte H55M-S2Its not that not good, there are pros and cons. See what are you doing with it. If purposely setup for benchmarks only, then really not good. Proc: Intel Core i7 870 @3.2Ghz(stock clocked at 3.2 which is weird setup for faster boot speed |

Today I just upgraded to a "new" that comes with custom cooler which covers all the sata ports. I have to remove one of the fans to access to sata port.
so basically now I'm forced to use pcie x1 extender and a sata 3.0 pcie x1 card. Do you guys have any brands to recommend me? Prefably 4 ports but 3 is minimum. |

QUOTE(hmwgbworld @ Oct 15 2013, 07:30 PM) Lol this explanation is a little weird, Corsair do have good SSD such Neutron GTX series. As for price, its just slightly higher or similar as other brand's high performance ssd. then why not I just get the ssd that has the same performance of it for a cheaper price? |

QUOTE(marine88 @ Jun 1 2014, 05:19 PM) You should at least verify. One command so hard for you to type? lolQUOTE(horns @ Jun 1 2014, 05:45 PM) nah i don't think ssd manufacturers will deliver this so soon. if they are willing to do so, then it's a great news. Hopefully! But normal SSD lifespans nowadays won't exceed 2 years. Users read, write and delete data from SSD all the time. Before the SSD even have time to do housekeeping data has already been written on it.however, with tlc flash to become mainstream ssd's (e.g. marvell's recent announcement about a new controller for tlc flash), replacing mlc flash gradually, this technology might be a good option to help prolong flash lifespan further. |

QUOTE(horns @ Jun 2 2014, 03:27 PM) yeah the 4k read is not that good looking. if you looked at benchmarks of 256gb and 512gb, even raid0 of 2x 512gb, their 4k are almost the same. I thought we don't have to defrag lol.the lifespan of ssd's depends on how you set your system up, and how you use and maintain it. if set up and use it properly it can last for more than that. the only problem is that not many practice it right. i had a friend told me ssd sucked. after almost a year of usage it's left with 9% health. i asked him what he did usually. he told me, 'as usual. normal web browsing; watching youtube; document editing, etc.' the last one of the etc. is 'defrag it once a month'. raid0 runs faster. cstkl1 posted a video about this (the second post of the previous page). |
