QUOTE(SubRoutine @ Aug 20 2013, 03:53 PM)
1. Preferred Brand - Any
2. Budget - Max RM 4.4k
3. Usage - Gaming.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 13 to 15 inches. 17 can also consider. FHD preferred.

I want to splurge on a decent gaming laptop that can handle FPS games (the coming BF4 included) with 45-60 frames minimum, with all settings cranked to the max EXCEPT AA and shadows, two areas where im always happy to make sacrifices to reach that magical number. It's a gaming laptop anyway, we always make sacrifices.
*
If you are interested in maxing out gaming performance, then this:
15.6"
Lenovo Y510p, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT750M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080)@RM3999[2.7kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8, red backlit, GN37 exGPU & ODD, 120w+170w psu, 2 yrs

Use remaining budget for a SSD and perhaps warranty extension~

Otherwise can consider these:
15.6"
Illegear Configure Illegear units here: http://www.illegear.com/
Illegear RE-15, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080;matte)@RM3599[Onkyo], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), FreeDOS [CPU Options: i7-4700MQ - i7-4900MQ][/color]

MSI GE60-2OE, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM4299,8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8, backlit keyboard

After some analysis, I have weighed the things that I should sacrifice or keep, mafan sifus recommend thank you!!

Brand any
Budget any to 1500
Basic use
Screen any

Three things needed are haswell, international warranty, Linux.
*
Closest would be this I guess:
14"
Dell
Inspiron 14R, i3-4010U + Intel HD4400@RM1549 [2.32kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8 , 4 cell

You have to fork out ~Rm250 to make it international warranty though..
You might want to omit the Haswell processor, then there'll be slightly more options

Thank you tj do you think I can place the order now or wait for pc fair?

Buy when you need, wait if you can.

If you can wait, then there will probably be more options later on with Haswell

Usage: Games and programming.

Budget: maximum is 3k.

Would like to know what is the current best bang for buck notebooks. And how does 4th gen i5/i7 fare against a 3rd gen i5/i7, as I heard 4th gen is more on energy savings.

You don't really get that much a performance gain or battery savings for the Haswell processors (when compared to the 3rd), not for these power hungry i7 processors laugh.gif

Lenovo seems tempting. Does that means there is no difference in performance of say, Y510p vs Y500p on games like BF3. Also, is it possible to downgrade to Windows 7 ? and swap the hdd with a higher speed (7200) ?
*
Yeah, gaming performance depends much on the graphic card anyway, so gaming performance would be more or less similar. However, do take note that Y510p comes with Nvidia Optimus, so you will get slightly more battery life, if tis important to you nod.gif
You can always downgrade, but its not really advisable as you might have problems finding drivers now, especially for newer laptop models.
And yes, you can swap the HDD with another faster HDD, or even SSD brows.gif

QUOTE(xproc @ Aug 22 2013, 04:02 PM)
lol... 4th gen ultrabook does not yet have in any brands except apple... and yet it is still one of the best quality mac / windows (if you bootcamp) ultrabook laptop
*
He did mentioned he doesn't want Apple la bro laugh.gif
Newer generation ultrabooks will come eventually, although current ones are actually quite very capable of handling normal, everyday tasks ~

True... Basically I'm looking for a Windows version of Mac book air. I think I'll have to wait....

Btw, why is it other brand still not yet update to Haswell ? Trying to clear out old stock? Or Intel supply shortage?
*
If you can wait, the upcoming XPS13 will probably be the closest contender to the MBA13, as usual haha laugh.gif

Not sure what's the main reason for the slow in terms of update... maybe they are releasing batch by batch, targeting budget consumer units 1st hmm.gif

Not really sure its related to the "slow-ness" in the release of Haswell-powered ultrabooks hmm.gif
Based on what I've read, Haswell was actually introduced to reduce the steady decline in demand for notebooks as a result of smaller tablets/smartphones hmm.gif
