QUOTE(joytest @ Jul 26 2013, 09:38 AM) Bro thank you very much!!!!!!!! So what was the big deal on the palm rejection tech thingy? Doesn't his video disprove that? The new tech doesn't work then? This proves that the digitizer cannot handle multi touch when writing. I think you are the first person in the world to confirm this. Would you mind if I reshare the video? |

QUOTE(joytest @ Jul 26 2013, 09:45 AM) See, consider how you write notes on paper. Your palm/edge of palm is resting on the paper. Or even if you were to hold a notepad, your thumb will grip an edge of the notebook touching the paper while your writing hand rests on the paper. Erm, I'm aware of how the tech works If you have to keep your writing hand OFF the writing surface and your other hand CANNOT touch the screen while writing, tell me how long can you sustain writing? At best, you can only write a short sentence before your forearm starts feeling sore. Allow me to rephrase what I said to avoid any more confusion (apologies for that btw): What's the big deal with the palm rejection technology if it doesn't work? The video clearly shows that it cannot accept stylus input whilst another is alreay present. Or is there a certain way to hold the phone in order to make it work? Or did they not include it in the ZU? I never really took much notice of this particular tech as more oft than not I'll be using the kb for input. Now that you've brought it up though, makes for an interesting discussion...and broadens our collective knowledge |

QUOTE(joytest @ Jul 26 2013, 10:10 AM) Since I'm a Note user, I use it for note taking and occasional sketching. The natural way of writing is you rest your palm edge on some surface to write. You could sketch on a phone? Damn. Respect. After the palm pilot era, I don't think I've ever bothered with a stylus-based device. Having to "learn" the alphabet back then was quite a chore. Having tried to hover my whole hand without resting it on anything does make taking notes quite a chore, especially if the phone is held in one hand, whilst trying to write with the other. The Note 2, at 5.5", sometimes needs you to place the palm at the bottom edge of the screen to write from the top of the screen. I can do this and still write without any problems. If I had to keep my hand above the screen the whole time, I will not be able to take down notes more than 1 or 2 sentences at most. You can verify this by taking a small piece of paper, say A5, and test writing with palm on paper and hand above paper. Given the humongous size of the ZU, if you want to write notes in a meeting, which can get to be quite a lot, it will be natural to expect that you treat the screen surface as a regular writing surface since you are using a regular writing instrument ie pen/pencil. I am fond of *active* digitizers I had contemplated the ZU as a refresh for my new device, but because I have tried many other styli for my other non-active digitizer device, I am more keenly aware of the need for palm rejection. So I guess the ZU is out of your list then? It's a shame that the "anything can be your stylus" marketing is just a gimmick though. QUOTE(joytest @ Jul 26 2013, 12:44 PM) Like I said if u wanted to scribble a short sentence or 2 it can work but it does not have any app that is the equivalent of the samsung s-note so u cannot actually treat the xz screen as a sheet of paper. I see. Thanks for the info. I didn't know the Note's ability with the stylus was that...good. I have to revise my distaste for them I just sketch the occasional diagram during discussions. ZU is still useful as a phablet though as it is the largest device in this category QUOTE(Hertz96 @ Jul 26 2013, 01:47 PM) One of the lucky guys I guess. Anyone know when the LTE model will be available here? Or if someone is going there later, if you don't mind, please do me a favor and ask them about it. Thank you! I asked. Guy wasn't sure. He said (with a lot of hesitance and sounding very shifty) "sometime next month". So take it with On a relevant note, he also mentioned the SBH52 to be released at the same time as the LTE version. QUOTE(Andrewtst @ Jul 26 2013, 02:02 PM) I want LTE, when LTE coming lei.. hmm........ If LTE comes to your place and you bought the 3G version, then damn sien later. Haha. Or you could do like Uncle Benny I suppose. Just that like you said, not sure how the response of the general public would be towards this phone.Or just buy this non-LTE version, I can't use LTE also now......... but maybe another 2 to 3 months, LTE will coming in my area since i seen it last few weeks once. ----- Ok. I went to KLCC earlier today and fooled around with the phone for a bit. God almighty the phone is HUGE! I've got relatively big hands and one handed operation was definitely a bit of challenge...but doable. Holding the phone in a natural grip, reaching the app drawer icon was almost impossible. I had to shift my grip to something bordering on unstable to be able to reach it. After opening the drawer though, reaching any of the apps on the screen was doable. The phone may be huge, but imho, the weight distribution was very well managed. It felt very very light, but at the same time, sturdy. It definitely doesn't feel like a sammy (Not disrespecting you guys, just that sammys tend to feel plasticky and thus, fragile). I could hold the phone in one hand and navigate the screen well enough - unless, I had to open the app drawer. Dialing was also do-able with just one hand. I tried to move the kb to the side (like the one shown in the vids) but didn't know how to do it. Asking the boy there didn't help either - even he didn't know how to do it. So not sure how viable it is for one-handed, text-based usage. So to those with big hands, rejoice! One handed operation is almost possible I compared the phone to my pocket size too. Pocketable...but definite bulk. If you're wearing leather trousers...let's just say it'll turn heads. ifyouknowwhatimean.jpg EDIT: just saw angelgemini's post about the staff discount. Interesting. Gonna check with someone if I can do that This post has been edited by marquis: Jul 26 2013, 03:23 PM |
