QUOTE(hidz7 @ Dec 25 2013, 06:05 PM) Hi all, I just graduated in July 2013 (in Mechanical Engineering) and currently working but not in O&G industry. So I still searching for O&G jobs because that is what I am looking for. Recently, I went to an interview for Design Engineer position at MMHE, and last Monday I got a call from them stating that the interview was a success, and they would like to offer me the position, but on a contract basis. So now I am in dilemma, because in my current job, my position is permanent, BUT that's not O&G field. On the other hand, MMHE offers me a Design Engineer position in O&G field, BUT it is 1 year contract. So all sifus, can you guys enlighten me and also share your opinion on this?Should I go? Should I stay? Thanks in advance! Mostly MMHE nowadays offer contract as they got a lot of existing contract staff which also want to become permanent. If you perform well, then should be no issue. Not everyone got chance to join OnG. My friend last time searching about 1 year to join OnG after he graduate till he got offer from McDermott. Just grab if you feel it worth.. (^__^)

QUOTE(code8 @ Dec 31 2013, 11:17 AM) Salam to all, Just finished my PhD study in Mechanical Engineering (advanced material & electrochemistry). Would like to join Oil and Gas company for better salary. I dont have any experiences in Oil and Gas. I got two years experience in electronic industry. Any suggestion where to start? or any position is suitable for me? During my PhD study, my career objective was shifted. Now, I'm interested to join oil and gas company, maybe something related with corrosion or electrochemistry related jobs. Thanks for your advice. Thanks for perhaps you can try to enter research and engineering department such ash EMRE, GPS, or Shell (not sure what they called in Shell) (^__^)

QUOTE(shahnooon @ Jan 6 2014, 03:05 PM) hey guys, not sure if you guys are particularly curious in this area, but in terms of pre-employment medical check-up, has anyone have any idea which company do include blood test in the pre-employment package test ? ( to check for HIV, Hepatitis..etc ) and if the results come out positive, will the job offer be held back by HR ? I think this topic might not be interested by many but worth to discuss, especially for operating companies like Murphy, Shell, Hess, Esso....appreciate anyone from HR Recruitment(from these companies) to share their company policies.... I believe mostly client do have blood test as one of medical check-up...but I know that Exxonmobil blood test quite details (from the checklist), they want several result from the blood test as per their requirement...not sure the held back is base on what reason...as panel doctor will write a letter to HR to inform whether the future employee is fit for work or not... QUOTE(Seager @ Jan 10 2014, 07:31 PM) Hi guys. I have recently received a rather lucrative offer to join a downstream gas company in Malaysia. Basically a service and product provider, my position would involve project management (operations) as well as overseeing compliance issues with new and existing installations. I would also deal with HSE standards, costs, budgets, while dealing with various vendors etc. The basic salary is high, with generous employee benefits. Another offer that I have received is from an upstream consultancy firm. It is basically a purely engineering design related job scope. The pay is slightly above the current market rate, however it pays roughly 1.5k lesser than the other employment offer. Their benefits are pretty much standard to other organizations within the same field. Truth to be told, I am very confused indeed. The downstream gas offer is a very, very lucrative offer indeed. However, I am not familiar with this field. I hope any seniors here working in this field could provide me with some advice? Downstream basically in term of salary not comparable with upstream...but u can pursue with higher position or if you prefer normal life within your own country, u can get 5 figures but again not as 5 figures like upstream (for normal position)...it got pro and con (mostly on salary wise), but some people prefer this kind of environment...but again, if you got experience, then later you can try join company at middle east such as QP, Aramco etc, or perhaps Singapore Jurong and Bukom Island plant or any other plant nearby... QUOTE(Seager @ Jan 10 2014, 11:09 PM) Thank you for your input. The thing is, my current offer for the downstream position is much higher and better as compared to upstream Any idea on how career progress within this industry is like? And what working environment are you referring to? My current offer is based in KL, but moderate travelling (claimable) to installation and inspection sites. What I mean by upstream is offshore base, or offshore operator, contractor etc. My friend join upstream from downstream, his salary almost double where it's normal to upstream...i'm not sure what upstream company offer you...it also depend what company you join... QUOTE(Seager @ Jan 10 2014, 11:20 PM) Ah.. Upstream field engineering is pretty different. I know they earn a lot haha I got an office job offer la. Not field related About you friend, what position/ job scope did he have when he was downstream? What did he used to do? And what's he doing upstream now? He's also mostly office job...do planning, management, costing, budget, vendor etc...about same scope as downstream, base at KL...maybe got time will go offshore to see field site.. QUOTE(Seager @ Jan 11 2014, 12:03 AM) Oh, interesting. How long was he working downstream prior to moving with an upstream organization? 5 years+.....he got personal reason...and his "rezeki" to get the offer soon as he met the some person at OnG fair in KL last year (OGA I think), he plan to move to KL due to family matter...oso got other went to middle east then come back coz not "tahan"...haha, it's really depend to individual, downstream to downstream oso got, all mostly 5years+ experience, then jump ship with 5 figures offer (depend what company you join) (^__^)

QUOTE(SGSuser @ Apr 3 2014, 06:07 PM) anyone worked as a scheduler before? especially during plant shutdowns...mind sharing your experience As scheduler you need to know how to develop schedule and track work progress using either Microsoft Project or Primarevera/P6. Normally scheduler will update to planner, but I don't see difference except for work segregation. To track work progress, you need to know actual things happened at site or update report from field/execution team. The schedule need to be submitted to client (if working at contractor site) for review and approval. You need to be proactive during shutdown / turnaround, haha (^__^)

QUOTE(mohdyakup @ Apr 26 2014, 10:28 AM) EP Engineering is contracted by EMEPMI to supply Professional Technical Manpower (Engineers, QA/QC Inspector, Contract & Procurement, Finance) services. So you will be seconded to EMEPMI via this manpower agency. Your salary were calculated by daily rate & hour rate. And you only observe public holiday for your annual leave. So rate yourself to current market FAIRLY hehehehe Like myself my agency is Velosi Sdn Bhd so I seconded to EMEPMI. There are so many agency contracted by EMEPMI for this professional manpower services such as Prumatech, Carimin, NES Global, ProKaseh Sdn Bhd, VH Energy etc but there is contract worker provided with annual leave...got manpower supply company charge different rates to the manpower, got 15% from the monthly salary, got 5%, etc. depend how you nego with them...
