Recently, I haven't heard of any rumors that any of our defenders are leaving. At one time quite a few were speculating the future of Coates and Skrtel. The latter seems to be content at LFC based on the training photos. Still feel the club needs to sign another defender, though. Don't really fancy Coates, based on the performances he has given anyway.

Calm down people. It was Preston. But to be fair, the lads did well considering it was the first game of pre-season. Looking forward to better performances during the rest of pre-season and carry on from there.

Stats can only tell so much. What matters more is how the perceived leader of the backline marshalls the defence. Great defences rely on them playing as a well-organized, disciplined unit.

Suarez, Reina and Coates will join the team in Australia if I'm not mistaken.

Perhaps I was wrong. Thought I read it somewhere though. Official website only stated they will join the team later in the tour.

Carroll feeds on a more direct play with more aerial balls. BR doesn't fancy that style and probably didn't see much use in Carroll. Hence, he was sold even though the player stated he wanted to fight for his place.

Downing is a winger and is a lot more mobile and that makes him somewhat adaptable to the pass-and-move game that BR wants. So BR can probably utilize him better compared to Carroll. I think he will stay. Besides, he can provide backup to the other wingers.

If LFC manages to get him at 12M which I highly doubt, then it's OK. But if Schalke push it closer to 20M, it's a no-no for me. Too much money for a defender.

Joining the team on the pre-season tour doesn't tell the full story. Well, let's just wait and see what develops. There's still plenty of time in the transfer window. I do hope he stays, though.

On another note, is LFC really going after another midfielder?? How many does BR need in that department? All that talk of getting another central defender disappeared. And Reina's loan...confirmed or not confirmed? Because LFC website quoted BR saying that there was an offer of a loan but no further talks were made about it.
