And never forget that when you buy a gaming laptop, you are paying for a screen, keyboard, hardware like CPU, GPU and RAM and also a backup UPS while a desktop is mostly just a CPU tower and maybe a keyboard or mouse at most people have a monitor lying around.
That battery on my G73JH saved my butt a few times when i use it for work. Play less games now and that gaming laptop is still fine for work too. Other than the Seagate Momentus XT is failing and the temps are getting to the uncomfortable level.
I am still considering to get either another gaming laptop to replace G73JH + iPad Mini (6k + 1k+) or a desktop + Surface Pro 2 with Power Cover(2k+ and 4k+).
once you're used to ram disk, you will think of ups for desktops

Hello fellow ASUS Notebook fans & users.
I'm currently using Asus G51VX notebook series & thinking of upgrading my ram + HDD. Can you please recommend what specs to look for to get maximum performance?
1) RAM - Is 8GB enough? What is the specs / model number?
2) SSD HDD - What models are compatible with this series?
Appreciate your expert advise. Thank you.
hi, i suggest you check for the parts first. for ram, it's ok to go to 8gb, provided the laptop supports it. you can use hwinfo to check it out the parts first.
for ssd, it will speed things up. still you need to make sure the laptop can support it (the best sata version is still sata 3; sata 2 is half of its output). usually the ssd in the market supports sata 3, and backward compatible to sata 2.
