Emerging markets are cracking due to $3.9 trillion funds are unwinding due to higher interest rate in US. So we might get crisis prices for emerging market without the crisis.  rolleyes.gif

Standby for the roller coaster ride.  tongue.gif

QUOTE(SKY 1809 @ Jun 24 2013, 12:58 PM)
I think the innovations in smartphones and tablets are coming to an " end "

No much valued added like S3 to S4, Note 2 to Note 3 , min improvements.
*
Exactly the reason why I start buying Apple.
Innovation fear on Apple vs Innovation optimism on Samsung has narrowed now.
Market will start to see it's just smartphone/tablet, and we need one. That's all. No longer so fancy on innovation since S4 proven that there isn't much room for improvement in near term.
Apple users will continue to buy iphones, and Android users continue to buy android phones. No conflicts.
And market is growing bigger and bigger each day.

Samsung and Apple are the only two big players in smartphone. Both stocks also looks good and can make some money if you enter at the right time. Other brands just play catch up game. Apple will need to sustain the market share by introducing new Iphone (bigger screen and cheaper iphone). While Samsung is playing with technology, from quad-core (S3) to Octa-core (S4). I am waiting for Note 3 and see what it will be. I know the screen will be bigger until you can't even put in your pocket! tongue.gif
*
While everyone seems to take the market share so seriously, I don't think that's THAT important.
1. Apple has a much stronger brand name than Samsung in many ways. Samsung needs to innovate a lot to attract buyers, but Apple just need to play catch up to sell products.
2. World middle class is no doubt increasing rapidly in emerging economy. As long as sales are more, market share is not that important since at the end of the day, it's just a phone or tablet to use the internet + apps. Both Apple and Android world got enough capabilities on these 2 areas.
3. Apple's huge cash pile and cash flow cannot be ignore for too long. Its recent share buyback + dividend plans shows.
4. Apple is trading below PE 10x, for a world top brand name + excellent balance sheet + US$388b company.
hmm.gif

Haha. Will see how in the next 1-2 years. If you obverve our surrounding (my case), 7 our of 10 using Samsung, 2 Apple and 1 misc brand. biggrin.gif
*
You may do a research.
Ask those who used to use iphone.
Ask them if Apple comes out a large screen iphone, say a 4.8-5.5 inch such as Samsung, will they switch back to iphone?
Apple users appreciate the simpliticy of iOS, unlike the highly customizable Android. Simply put, they both have their own crowd. And I think the recent Apple presentation on iOS that they said they'll focus on simplicity, which I think is the right way to go. Most businessman doesn't want a "highly cusmotizable" phone, they just want something simple and efficient to use.

So there are two different saying regarding the interpretation of "fine tuning". Here's the negative side.

agreed with that since I was trading used phones for years. IOS is a lot more smooth and simple in many ways and suit them who "not willing to use their brain more in changing os version", like my gf.. but more is about the brand thingy..

so SMARTphone is for BRAINLESS people. tongue.gif

QUOTE(cherroy @ Jun 24 2013, 02:12 PM)
If there is no innovation, consumers may stick to their gadget what they already own.
Consumer has no urgency to change phone and tablet, as compared changing whenever there is new "toy" in the market.

So sales can become slow, stagnant due to no new "toy" in the market.

Just like car manufacturers constantly need to come out with new model every 3-4 years. If not people may not want to change new car.
*
People will still buy new products.
Example, PC.
Did PC has any major innovations since 10 years ago? Or even 15 years ago? I'd say it's minimum. The only thing is, speed.
And we, PC users still continue to upgrade our system. Every 2 years, I upgrade my graphic cards and motherboard, sometimes it's because they rosak. Every 3 years, I upgrade my RAM and intel processor for speed. As for smartphone and tablet, they are similar case as they run applications.
A phone battery will start to die in 2 to 3 years time. Since phone is cheap and battery is expensive, people will as well change phone.
Besides, the look and design needs to be modern enough. Slimmer, lighter etc.

So innovations are still there, but not as desirable anymore. Like what Jobs said before, he'll destroy what he invented before and replaced it with something new. That's the technology cycle. As smartphone/tablets life cycle may be replaced by something very different. Now both google and Apple start talking about wearable gadgets. biggrin.gif
