QUOTE(jtl @ Jun 14 2007, 12:39 AM)
My two neutered dogs are as active as they were before they were neutered! I too thought they would be more mellow but they are not. When open the gate, they would happily run out. So, never dare to open the gate big big. Car also never park inside. Must park outside  tongue.gif
*
Hahah... maybe mine that.... now my lab and boxer got no interest in running out. But of course they go crazy over cats so I have to becareful and make sure no cats around hahaha... what dogs are they?

QUOTE(jtl @ Jun 14 2007, 12:55 AM)
Both are mixed breeds. One walked into my house, tired, hungry, cold and full of skin problems when he was a puppy and the other I adopted when someone didn't want him anymore.

They are both now about two years old and are as active as ever. The other reason I park the car outside is because one of them bit my husband's brand new car last time so I decided to park the car outside. It was either the dogs or the car, so the car had to go out. Hahahaha
*
Ohhh... great that you adopted them. So kind... so you have 4 dogs with you? Or more than that heheheh... for me, 3 dogs enough now.... 1 is like a monster indoors.

So far our dogs don't destroy the cars.... well, since puppyhood they chew furniture than car... so my house got alot of chewed furniture but great looking cars hahaha....

QUOTE(jaunty_niel @ Jun 14 2007, 09:13 AM)
btw, if feed yogurt, isit possible dat they're allergic 2 lactose too?
*
No... the lactose in yogurt is not potent to dogs. This is why they can take it but if you give them half a cup or a whole cup, a dog cannot tolerate that much. The best is 1 to 2 tablespoon a day. Treat yogurt as a treat. The live cultures in the yogurt aids digestion. If you do not want to feed yogurt, another alternative is Yakult but only 1 tablespoon and only once awhile will do.

QUOTE(^MochI^ @ Jun 14 2007, 01:03 PM)
small carrots needed to blend also? or can let them chew and finish off?
can i feed everyday?
*
It is up to you. Dogs cannot fully digest the whole carrot, so if you blend and mix with a bit of olive oil or canola oil, the nutrients will get absorb into the body better. If it is just a treat, just give raw would do. Normally the blended one is for meals when you want your dog to eat something extra to gain vitamins but of course carrots are high in vitamin A so we should not give so much as dogs can get vitamin A poisoning, same with chicken liver.

heheh thanks Hun for telling me all this .
i want to make sure the benefit of spaying then i might consider about it
and one of my working friend say his shihtzu after spay become dumb dumb @@ ...but i dun think this is logic la...just feel he no time train his dog ..and it bcome a lazy dog only.
Hahahhaha ...open gate wide but ur dogs will not run out now , this is good !  nod.gif
*
Ah, that is your friend's mindset only. Certain dogs will mellow down, won't be so fidgety. This is normal when it is after the operation. Some dogs will feel depress a bit.... but after a week, usually a dog will be back to its usual self after spaying or neutering.

Aiyoh, pity the shih tzu.... I guess it is your friend's fault lah.... no matter how many vets he brings, he won't be able to treat it properly if he doesn't take the time to know his own dog. Coz I had brought Chelsea to a vet before coz she shed so much till botak.... you know what the vet said?
"She is just changing coat... shedding season and she will lose more fur"
Problem, CKCS are spitz type dog, so the fur won't drop like crazy.... then summore she only botak at the shoulders.... strange rite? So my family just did our own research and knew it was the food... hahaha.... maybe your friend no time to do those things, so that is why the dog needs to visit the vet so often coz of skin problem.

Dogs need to be trained in order to do tricks and command.... if we let a dog just sit at home with nothing to do, its mind will just become sleepy and lazy... so how to learn? Must be a boring life for the shih tzu.

Yeah , he just told me that he spend how much for the vet's bill and give good food royal canin etc... but he say coudn't cure his shihtzu skin disease ...yeah , i think did research and find the reason , sometimes it do help a lot . But you are right with this point , my friend did not do research so much and he just bring his furkid to vet often . Yea, although my furkid know some trick and command now , but i do always repeat and repeat the same trick and command , so it will not feel boring with their life . Hehehe . Hun , if u free..must post ur furkid pics let me see ..espiecially ur beloved CKCS okay ...hehehe  tongue.gif
*
Heheh... pics ah...ok ok, let me see if I can get some nice outdoor pics or not. Long time I didn't take pics of my dogs.... my latest pic taken was my labrador....

hun how come ur labrador look so white de..
da fur very kilat..
they say either labrador or golden retriever has joint prob..
how 2 identify joint prob symptoms?
*
Well, you can normally see the joint problems if the dog walk weird or can't walk properly. It is painful so normally the dog will also look in pain but for me, if say choose a pup, look at the parent dogs first. Check the dog's health, got good posture or not. Then turn to the puppy. Look at how it run and walk. Then feel the legs with your hands and also feel the hips.... hahaha... this is how I check GR for my friend and his GR is a lovely one. Also, it is best to double confirm with a vet. If got money, maybe do an xray to double check. For senior dogs, it is best to let a vet check the hips and do xray.

My labrador is a light cream yellow heheheh.... but yah, she looks more like white. She is very friendly and obedient and loves people but is a good watch dog coz her she bark loudly when got strangers.... when she bark, her fur will also stand a bit, makes her look fierce but when stranger come into my house, sure she become friendly and jump to play. Today Mr. Z experienced this when came to my place hahaha.

Hun, actually Derick asked us whether want to co-own his most recent CKCS puppy or not, coz got one very nice, show quality, but he got too many, ask us whether can take care & bring for show.

But sadly this moment we have too many commiments, cant spare more time, else sure we will bring in, so now he put up for sale already.

So for those who love CKCS, can look for this breeder! I mean same breeder as Hun's CKCS, he produces nice CKCS.
*
Yah... Derrick got really nice CKCS.... is it a Ruby pup? Too bad I got not much time or transport to show.... suppose to register with MKA but till now I haven't hahaha.... nevermind lah, I'm happy with Chelsea anyway.

toby looks kinda fierce..had bad experience wif big dogs..
chealsea's eyes kinda same wif jack-jack. funny eyes but it makes them really special n i cant find an excuse not 2 love them. btw chelsea has really nice coat.
smile.gif
*
Hahah... he looks fierce... but I dunno if he will bite people or not hahahah.

chelsea takes California Natural mixed with Orijen... this gives her coat the shine and also healthy. I don't give supplements often.... three times a week 1 teaspoon of Omega oils only.

jackjack eye also like that? Din really notice.

yeah .. Chelsea eye is so special and BIG !!!! i love Chelsea...no wonder Hun love her at 1st sight too ! i see through Chelsea pic , i also like Chelsea already  blush.gif
*
Yah.... actually the big head not really that nice.... The Dog photos were taken using a Fish Eye lens... i just use my normal kit lens so not so exaggerated. Chelsea is super playful, well, she is not playful when outdoors in strange place but if you come to my house, she will treat you with licks and jumps and ask you to play fetch with her.

Hahaha... that's the normal colour. The fur become red is from the stains in the salivar.... no need to do much lah.

QUOTE(koohii @ Jun 15 2007, 11:29 PM)

I prefer stainless steel bowls or glass bowls. More hygienic and cleaner, healthier for the dog's health also. Plastic bowls can have bacteria growing if it got scratches on the bowl and some dogs can get allergies on the mouth.

I myself buy stainless steel also , cuz stainless steel easy to clean and i feel can long lasting , but i didnt know that plastic bowl bring bacteria to them , i just know those plastic bowl very easy to get scractches if use longer . Mochi , i think is better to buy stainless steel bowl to ur beloved furkid then  nod.gif
*
Yah... plastic is ok for dry food but you know lah, sometimes we dump some wetfood in like fruits or meat or canned food, it can trap food particles in the scratches, then become bacteria.... Sometimes a dog won't show anything but some dogs will get rashes on the mouth. So better be safe loh, use stainless steel or glass. Easy to get stainless steel, can always use the human bowls or the one for pets. Coz my Tammy and Toby so big, my dad bought the big stainless steel mixing bowls for them hahaha... cheaper than the dog ones but Chelsea got a one for dogs since I bought during PetsWonderland sale at Rm6 only.

Just stick to dog food and omega supplements.... sometimes feeding raw egg can do harm if your dog cannot tolerate. Puppies should not take raw eggs yet.

Hahah... i go organic shop buy Omega oil supplement for dogs. Melrose brand.... it has salmon oil, safflower oil, flaxseed oil and a few more which I can't remember.... but olive oil or flaxseed oil is good enough.

Confirm neutering will make the dog mark less or not mark territory at all. They will still lift up their leg to pee, that is not considered marking but urination only.

You guys just have not seen how a dog marks territory.... every tree it will lift up it's leg, every corner and fire hydrant, every chair and every table.... that is marking territory. Even no pee they still wanna lift up leg to mark.
