Used iPad 3rd Generation(aka "The new iPad" or "iPad 3") are using dual-core A5X processor compare to the iPad 4 which is using dual-core A6X processor. There are not much different between iPad 3 and iPad 4 other than both are already with Retina Display comparing to the iPad 2. Both are upgradable to iOS7 and with 1GB RAM, also with up to 10hours of battery life. The biggest thing about iPad 3 is that, Apple still using the old 30-pin connector on the iPad 3 but not the latest new 8-pin Lightning dock, which first unveiled during the iPhone 5.

Depend what capacity of the used iPad 3 that you are buying, and how much the seller offer to you.
New WiFi only Nexus 7(16GB) which is at RRP999, and WiFi+LTE Nexus 7(32GB) @ RRP1299. Why not get a new iPad mini with Retina Display(aka "iPad mini 2") 16GB WiFi only @ RRP1249 or a new iPad mini 16GB WiFi only RRP949.

TBH, in LYN Garage sales, able to find some good deal like iPad mini 16GB WiFi only used set at around RM700/RM800 some even include screen protector/case which saved yourself like RM100-200 for accessories, if you really want to try iOS. If not just go for Nexus 7 which is selling at quite low price for WiFi only 32GB model(imported set).

Ps. I bought one 4months old of iPad mini 1 @ RM800 with FREE SP and Case(save myself RM200+)

Budget? you sure your mom want 10inch?

Maybe you can bring her go try the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 or Tab 3 8.0 before going to Tab 3 10.1 inch model. Because 8 inch is more easier to carry around. Should be above model also under your budget range

See what others can recommend you. But for what I know is, at that budget only capable to buy 3G+Calls of China tablet. if not, local brand only able to get smartphone.

The best way still have to go test the real product to find out.

In before that.
1) How old is your children range? 7-12years old?
2) How long you plan to use your tablet for your children? 3-5years? (might concern of resell value)
3) More specific detail of the learning material?

iOS go for Apple iPad mini 16GB WiFi.


Android, you have a lot of choice. like Asus MeMo Pad HD7 or MeMo Pad 8, Google Nexus 7 2013 16GB WiFi; Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 WiFi or 8.0 WiFi.

I think currently only the Dell Venue 8 PRO and Lenovo ThinkPad 8 have the full Windows 8.1 and 8inch as well. Or maybe the Acer Iconia W4 and the Asus VivoTab Note 8.

But all above are not yet available in Malaysia.

I think taking the iPad mini is better than the iPad 2 since a little bump up from the iPad 2 spec and smaller and much more portable. Of course we talking about iOS device lar.

You PM the guy I taken the price from. He not selling the cheapest in LYN but cheaper than most retail shop out there.

Unless you are talking about iPad mini 2, if not iPad mini 1 with iOS7 got lag, you can Google for people feedback on the internet.

So better go for Nexus 7 2013 32GB WiFi.

I don't think with that kind of budget can do such many function... Hope someone here done before know how to figure out which type of China tablet able to do that.

I think the best battery life for Android 10" tablet is Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition). I don't own any 10" or 7" of Android tablet, but the Apple iOS of the iPad battery is really honestly awesome.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 got WiFi only but not available in local, AP set have, made of Exynos instead of Qualcomm for LTE purpose.

Well you can look for Nexus 10 32GB WiFi only AP set, local only have 16GB WiFi. Or wait for next-gen rumor HTC made Nexus 10.

Doesn't battery life concern you? Maybe you need to get battery life more if you are doing presentation on-the-go, so the above 2 model might not enough juice for you last for a day.

Nexus 10 have 2GB RAM, only lag when play high graphic display Games, watch movie, surfing website, reading news won't make you lag. Nexus 10 is the best Android tablet of 2012. Don't forget Nexus is Pure Android, while Asus only with 1GB RAM only. To be honest, I prefer to get 2GB RAM at least for Android tablet/smartphone even on KitKat/JellyBean.

Lastly, OEM like Asus/Sony have bloatware in their device, so if they only preload with 1GB RAM, get ready to be lag on everything. So if you buy OEM device in the future, make sure at least 2GB or even 3GB above RAM.

Since you can wait, let's just see the next HTC rumor Nexus tablet.

Whats your budget and usage anyway? is not the matter of worth buying or not..
