Hi All,

As many young Malaysians today, my dream and long term goal is to migrate to another country. My target locations are Australia and New Zealand. I think NZ would be a great place for me to settle down due to the lifestyle there. (PS. I have not actually been there, but I heard of the laid back lifestyle of fellow New Zealand-ers.

For people working and residing in NZ, can you share some tips on how the immigration process works, such as getting a job and VISA there? I am a graduate in IT, majoring in software engineering and currently in a Project Team in a MNC headquartered in Germany.

Thanks in advance!

No offence but can I understand why do you want a laid back lifestyle esp when you are still so young?
Don't you feel its better to migrate to a country where you can earn alot of money then only go to NZ to enjoy a relax lifestyle?
At least with some money you don't have to worry about money or being without a job.
I know to each his own but what happens if you're 35, with a family and only earning just enough for you to get by?
How about retirement? Yes I know NZ has a relaxed lifestlye but do you want to relax while you're in your 20-30s?

Thanks for your reply.

I understand where you are getting. Of course, there is much more to it than just the laid-back lifestyle. There is monetary issue, dissatisfaction with the currently ruling coalition and government, culture and of course, the difference in lifestyle between Malaysia and NZ.

that is good advice, i will keep that in mind.

I know it will be hard to adjust to the different culture at first, but I know I will get through it.
Maybe you can share how the process works in getting a skilled immigration visa?

Thanks!

There have been a few threads about migrating to NZ (and Aus).
Maybe you might wanna read up on what others said there first.

IMO, going there for holiday is all fine and wonderful but not everyone can adapt to the lifestyle there. Besides, it's best if you can secure a job before leaving everything and going over.

I don't know much about the application as I have no experience in that. There are some agents here on the forum, maybe you can get some info out of them. Or check NZ government website for more info. A little google-ing brought me to these websites:

http://www.immigration.co.nz/seminars/mala...CFedU4godfioAkA
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/str...ntialskills.htm

Good luck.

But you can try to migrate to SG, HK, etc work hard, earn your money before you migrate to NZ and enjoy your life there.
Its not a one way solution. Becuase as far as I know AUs and NZ will offer you a comfy life but not a rich life. Its laid back but you can't excatly not work. And you also cannot save alot as the more you earn the more you're being taxed unless you consider relocating back to Malaysia with the currency exchange. Then you might have a problem as we are not as laid back as they are.

I think you got the wrong impression here. I said I like the laid-back lifestyle there. That doesn't mean I want to NOT work if I go there. KL for me is too busy and noisy all the time, maybe that's due to the fact that I come from Sarawak and live in KLCC area. I can't even find a decent meal anywhere near my place. I don't need a rich life, because to me, family is the most important part of my life. Hope you get what I'm trying to say.

Cheers!

Any of the LYN sifus out there know if getting a skilled migration visa as a fresh grad is tough for NZ? Tough i mean like 90% chance you wont be getting it. I read up on some sites that there are a couple of job professions which are considered in the "skills shortage" category. IT is one of those smile.gif

home is where your heart is.

Anyway, been there for holiday, weather is unpredictable, often wet. though the scenary is nice, apart form Auckland, wellington, other parts is so quiet and british isle like. You will see and more land than people. And honestly it is a good vacation place but cari makan there, not my cup of tea...it is bordering boring unless you like outdoor sports

Only the company headquartered in Germany, but you're not in Germany, are you?? hmm.gif hmm.gif

Getting to NZ is not easy for fresh grads unless you're graduate from a NZ uni, which they're more lenient. Your best bet is do a postgraduate degree in NZ then find a job there. The same applies to AUS.

If you're not a fresh graduate, then you stand a slightly higher chance. You need experience and high salary.

Haha. Nope, I am most definitely not in Germany. The office in Malaysia is based in KL.

I have thought about doing a postgraduate degree in NZ, but I just don't have the money right now sad.gif
I guess my best bet is to work for 3 years and try to apply then cry.gif

during these 3 years, learn German then ask for a transfer to Germany....

you can also apply for postgrad scholarships in AUS/NZ ...

try look through their points systems and see if you qualify.. I saw it, and I think it's hard for non-AUS/NZ fresh graduates to gain an entry unless you've cable ..
