Hi all, I just returned from BALI last saturday.I went with my GF and my frens of a couple, 4 people in total My trip was from 29th July till 2nd August.

In Bali, we stayed at the swaha Bali Hotel. Bought from Groupon as they are doing promotion in Groupon MY and SG. The rate is quite cheap as we stayed for 5D4N for only rm400++ including tax.
To my surprise, the place was just 3 months new. It is clean, comfortable and the staff there are helpful. The location was in the centre of Bali, going north and south takes only 1 hour plus. The manager/owner of the hotel also manages a few other hotels in Bali, his name is Wayan.

So at the first day, our flight was at night, reached Ngurah Rai airport around 12AM then Wayan and his staff came and pick us up to the hotel. As it was a peak season, we couldnt get any driver service before landing in Bali, Wayan offered us driver service from his fren. The rate was 500,000RP per full day trip. 300,000RP for half day.

The second morning, we ate breakfast at the hotel, and it was quite delicious. Then, the driver waited for us to start off our trip. I remember some LYN users recommended Pak Bagus, surprisingly, the driver was him, but he called himself Damik. He is a friendly guy who always jokes and introduces us places to visit.

Our first destination was the Celuk Village, a silverwork place. They sell the silver accessories at high prices shocking.gif and my GF wanted a pair of "pure silver" earings that costs around RM100/350,000RP. Still skeptical about it.

Then it was all the oil painting gallery and wood carving place. We had lunch at the Kintamani area, it was crowded and jam all the way up to the hill top. But it was worth it as we had buffet lunch with breathtaking views of the 100 years inactive volcano and cold windy atmosphere. The lunch was only 100,000RP/rm30 at Sari Restaurant.

Following day, we went to Bird park, sanur beach and Nuri's pork rib for dinner. At the bird park. the entrance fee they charge is fxking unbelievable, RM200 for 2 person. Even using calculator to show u 700,000RP, I think the driver already earned commission from that. I still felt cheated even after i got back from it. Nothing special to see, just some colorful birds and reptiles in 2 different parks. Sanur beach was mostly local ppl and the beaches are not very clean, probably like port dickson. Then the pork rib was so crowded that we had to take away and eat in our hotel. We ordered 3 sets of pork rib and 2 sausages it costs about 450,000RP/rm120. It tasted slightly above average for me and it was not fullfilling. Maybe malaysia has better pork rib.

The next day, our trip was all beaches. First it was NusaDua, the place was so crowded that u hardly find parking. Even if you do, they will ask u to pay for watersports if not ur driver cant park their car there. There were so many people and the price was expensive, I had no choice but to pick one sport. I went for the parasailing, it costs me about 20 USD which was discounted by the boss from 30 USD. The queue was so long that i waited for 30 mins for my turn, the whole up and down process was just 1 MINUTES. Lifted up for around 40 seconds in the air then u have to pull the right cable to land. Its a RIPOFF vmad.gif . Then Damik keep pushing us to go for the turtle island which we were not interested, like he wanted to get commission from it.

Next beach was Geger, nothing much to do as all the expensive hotels and villas was situated around the area. Just a nice clean beach to walk around. Then we went Jimbaran for seafood and sunset. We ate at the right second last restaurant to the beach, all the packages were so expensive then we decided to order separately, two fish, some clams and squid that it is according to per kg. The total bill was just 730,000RP/RM220 compared to those packages. Even the cheapest package for 2 pax is 900,000RP. Then we enjoyed the sunset around 6.30PM for just a brief moment.

In our last day of journey, we went for some walk in sanur area and go for souvenir shops.

When we reached the airport, we gave our driver, Damik 200,000RP/RM60 for tips and left.

I rate the overall trip to be 6/10 as there are many ripoffs and the driver was getting too pushy for you to pay for activities and stuffs so he can get commissions.

Total spend for 2 person was RM1400(Air ticket) + RM430 (Hotel ) + RM1200 ( Cash ) = RM 3030++

Travelling to Bali next month.

One of my friends recently travelled to Bali and she mentioned that it took quite some time for travellers to clear the immigration checkpoint to enter Indonesia.

The hotel that I am staying in Bali is offering a "VIP Fast Track Clearance" service for USD40++/pax. Is this something worth paying for, or am I better off managing the clearance procedures myself?

Indonesian Visa is free of charge for Malaysian passport holder.

http://www.visabali.com/tourist-visas.php

That being said, the wait is because of a two line clearance system. Where you have to line up and apply for visa upon entry and then line up again to clear immigration..

Keep some rupiah in handy (~USD10), as the officer MAY ask for $$. You should be fine clearing it by yourself and certainly not worth for 40USD.

Thx for mentioning it.
Me and my frens were not interested with the dance so we skipped it.
Then we did went to the coffee plantation and saw the luwak ( cat ) there, the driver explained how cat-poo-cinno(cuppaccino) name originated.
We didnt went to ubud temple as the driver said it will be very jam and will take alot of time to go and back.
So yeah, some part was good some was not.

Stumbled upon this while surfing the internet: http://bali.mehthesheep.com/cheap-hotels-bali/
It's a list of cool hotels in Bali for under USD 50/night. From the pictures only, the hotels look awesome. Anyone has ever experienced staying at these hotels before? hmm.gif

I'm actually staying in Mantra Nusa Dua. Any good places to head to at night, since I'll be arriving at 6. I wouldn't want to wander far on my first night. Adventure awaits the next morning. Plus, any of you went for cliff jumping?
