We are going there to explore Bali, so we will not be in the rooms. We are also trying to keep things to a budget. Preferably, we would all live in a villa together, rather than hotel rooms.

I will take up your suggestion on Ubud and Kuta. Are these place safe at night?

Yeah quite safe for me.

Day 2 (Part 2): Sebatu Agrotourism (Luwak Coffee), Tegalalang Rice Terrace, Naughty Nuri's Warung, Anomali Coffee, Tegal Sari Villa

*more pics at blog*

From the highlands at Kintamani we then headed downwards to have a taste of Bali's world famous and most expensive coffee of all: Luwak Coffee. There are many places to try this coffee but our driver brought us to a place known as Sebatu Agro Tourism.

When we were there, there was literally nobody around apart from another couple. We had the whole place to ourselves enjoying greeneries and sipping coffee. This place was also really windy that day and it was really nice we continued to enjoy the cooling weather.

We ordered a set of different coffee and tea that they produced to try out. There were 6 flavours in together and they come in really tiny cups. I particularly enjoyed the coconut flavoured coffee but after a few sips it was beginning to become too sweet.

Apart from the coffee samples, the Luwak Coffee had to be ordered separately at a staggering 50,000 rupiah for a tiny cup. I didn't really like it though. The taste was really bitter and there was a lot of coffee grounds left behind. This means that not all the coffee powder that you add in the water actually gets dissolved. Although it was ridiculously expensive, it was a nice experience to try a small cup and share the expenses with your friends lol.

Our final stop of the day which require our driver services was a visit to the Tegallalang Rice Terrace. Here the paddy are planted on the slopes instead of flat ground (compared to the paddy field back in Ubud). Unfortunately the harvesting had just passed so all the paddy had been harvested. What was left to see then was just plain mud and grass.

Since we were already here, might as well we do some exploring. Hence we tried to climb all the way down and to the opposite side of the hill. Fortunately the weather was on the cool side otherwise the climb would be quite strenuous.

Despite all that the view from the opposite side was definitely much more prettier. I guess it's worth the effort and climb haha. Do beware with various locals who would be stationed along the way soliciting for donations. I gave him a few bucks in case he starts harassing us.

This brings the end of our visiting in Day 2 as we head back to Tegal Sari. As mentioned in an earlier post, our rooms had been changed to the lower floor which is of the more standard design with tiles as the flooring. No complaints here, still a great room.

For dinner we requested for a lift (~40k rupiah) from the villa to send us to the famous Naughty Nuri's Warung which serves the best pork ribs that I've ever tasted. The location of this restaurant is slightly from our place. You have to get past the Monkey Forest and travel a bit more to get here.

user posted imageDSC00845 by zstan, on Flickr

For less than RM30 you get to eat this whole rack of marvelous pork ribs! This was cheaper compared to the branch which just opened recently here in Malaysia ( > RM30 ). The whole rib was marinated to perfection to give you the flavour. This is unlike other pork ribs where they will just slab on BBQ sauce after they grill it. Couple it with a Bintang and you are good to go.

We were really, really full and bloated after the hearty meal so we decided to walk back all the way to our villa. The roads back to the Ubud palace area were really dark at some point as there were no street lights. After about a 20 minute walk we then arrived and decided to head to Anomali Coffee for some drinks. Unfortunately the Jakarta branch was just much better. Better barista maybe lol.

At about 12am we finally finished our drinks and chit-chatting before continuing our journey back to Tegal Sari. At that time all the roads were desserted and all the shops were closed as well. We were quite afraid that people suddenly robbed us but fortunately Ubud is still pretty safe. I also read somewhere saying that there were many stray dogs hanging around in Ubud area but there was none of them at that night. Great Day 2. Will definitely miss Ubud as we head back to Kuta on Day 3.

Hi Guys,

I'm going to Bali next week but the I have no clue of what to do. I am staying at Kuta for the whole trip so if you can suggest places to go and shops to shop/eat at and any nice bars/clubs to visit and if I absolutely need a driver or not, that would be great. Also, how much money should I bring too.

Please icon_question.gif !

Thankssss

You can go walk along Kuta beach, shopping at discovery mall and beach walk. Got some nice bars there, just play by ear and choose the liveliest one. icon_idea.gif

Honestly, nothing much to see in Kuta. You can switch around and go to these places for a more enjoyable trip.
- Uluwatu
- Jimbaran
- Nusa Dua
- Seminyak
- Tanah Lot
- Ubud
- Tampak Siring
- Kintamani
- Bedugul
- Singaraja - Lovina

You don't need a driver if you can ride motorcycle. Cheaper that way if you solo.
If you can't, then hiring a driver I think is around $30 per day. You can hire them when you arrive at the airport.

Just a heads up to those going there.

Don't forget that when departing back, the airport charges you 200,000 rupiah per person

I forgot about that and totally spent all money prior, luckily there's ATM nearby

We just came back from Bali 8 days trip. Quite fun. A lot of people promote their drivers. Before i say something about ours.
Does your driver?
1) Help you on bargaining?
2) Under table entrance fees, pay 1, 4 ppl went in ?
3) Bali has like small toll where villager collect fees, does he able to skip all that for u?
4) Historical explanation like a pure tour guide of places.?
5) Help you get cheaper Simpati Sim card smile.gif? some ppl here asked me to get from airport lmao, that cost like double/triple.
6) Take care of your kids.
7) Help you carry stuff smile.gif
8) Shoot great photo

Well, thank godness ours has all the above.

hi, do you mind sharing the contact of the driver you engaged and cost per day?
