I only have 1 prize figure, Banpresto i think, Gundam SEED Destiny's Lunuamaria Hawke. Kinda ok to me the quality though the paint finish is not as refined, feels a bit rough. But in terms of paintjob issues like bleeding of excess paint, or scratches, etc, doesnt have any of it.

Yui looks the best made compared to the others. Especially the face. Though, i had Alter's Azusa which i eventually sold (bought it because of twintails =3) because i never liked K-On.

That's why i have Haruhi Gekisou version, and ordered GSC's Shibuya Rin

It's lighting technique, usually, Lighting alone can help u reveal or hide seam lines. And you can also hide flaws, and even make an average quality figure look really good, and vice versa. Good camera is one thing but more than often it's lighting that matters.

Another possibility is, Kotobukiya indeed did some changes to her in the last minute. Occasionally the promo photo of a product is not the final product (given how many months there are between preorder and release).
