Hit or miss (lately more miss hahah), mostly depends on which sculptor. My very first scaled figure is from Griffon (Kan'u Unchou from Ikkitousen). Lately their nicer figures only come from their lines. Most of their figures that went into "not so good" category usually sculpted by Ryoichi Ikeda; for some reason figures he sculpted always have bad faces, or rather, almost same faces.

I criticize them a lot, and it took me 3 figures to realize i should stop buying from them. The main issue i tend to have with them is the pathetic base, which can take up more space than necessary (they use the same base for every figure, only change the metal plate in the middle which contains the character's name and origin). Quality, u judge from which sculptor is behing it; and their best line of products are Touhou figures while their more mainstream character figures from anime are pretty half-assed, terrible. On why they didnt gulung tikar, it's because their figures appeal more to newbies in figure collecting, those who have never tasted higher quality ones - they think that if it's genuine, it's enough. Griffon's figures are cheaper by other companies by 10-20%. their Asuna figures (already a few made) are at 7000-8000yen price range, well, close to Kotobukiya's one, but better ones, like GSC's version is over 9300yen and i expect Max Factory's version to exceed 10,000yen. And, the signs where Griffon's figures are not desirable, more than often after being released their price drop like crazy (and the newbies who want to save $$ will get 'em). Over 10k yen, those are most likely Touhou figures, they do well with Touhou because their sculptor responsible for that series is good at it. Griffon has 2 good sculptors, forgot the name, but they dun work on mainstream characters. No idea if you noticed it, GSC, Max, Orchid Seed, Native, etc takes 5-8 months to release a figure after preorder opens. Griffon can take as little as 3-4 months. Either the quantity they make is little, or quality control is lacking, or both. This post has been edited by EXkurogane: Sep 25 2013, 05:02 PM

I only have a couple of Griffon figures, so I can't really judge...But I really like the ones I have...Especially this one: Absolutely ADORE her... The paint job on this made me fall instantly in love, especially the purple...Not glossy, but not matte either, not sure how to explain it... That said,I have to agree about the same horrible base for every single one of their figures...

I preferred the GSC's line of Sabers, had the Saber Alter Vortigern and Lily Distant Avalon. Im waiting for Saber Extra, GSC 1/7 version> Well, if i have to wait years more, yes, i would wait on. Kinda confident GSC may make one, their Sabers are best sellers.

If you have seen their Akemi Homura, that one looks pretty good. But Madoka series is on top of my hate list as an anime. If i were filthy rich i would still like to own godoka just for the sake of having a huge and 'high end' figure on my shelf though.
