Hi guys.. wondering if any of you have experienced a wheelset conversion to support 8 cassettes campy(veloce pre-2000)? I found it pretty hard to find a campy free hub which supports 8 cassette. Usually it always 9-10-11 cassette.
On the other hand, i'm not interested in upgrading my groupset as im pretty happy with my Veloce but just that trying to fit a new wheelset to it.

Example wheelset is from here http://bicyclebuysell.com/view_item.php?id=188103 and its currently fit into a Shimano cassette

Thanks

what the whole story of your problem?

campy 8-speed freehub?? that will be a tough one... pre-2000 should be exa-drive i think... i search ebay also dun have the freehub...

i think you might have better luck with an upgrade if your frame can fit the 130mm hubs...

is your wheel busted??? else, if it is just only the rims and spoke and you still own a pair of i presume classic 32/36 spokes... just rebuild the wheel replacing everything and retain the hub...

a good resource...
http://branfordbike.com/articles/cassettes-and-cogs-pg60.htm

i also dug somewhere that there is a possible chance that the older 8-speed hubs have a slightly smaller axle which makes 11-speed campy wheels unable to fit 8-speed freehubs...

even Fulcrum only made conversion freehubs for campy 9-11 speeds...

looks like bad news for you... you need to go find some campy shops and see if they keep stock of stuff...

Story of my problem? Have an old Fausto Coppi which were bought in 1998 and came with Campy Veloce. After i bought it, i fitted it with Mavic Cosmic Elite. By 2005, the back rim broke thus i replaced the rim with my old original rim which came with the bike (some Mavic rim which i forgot the name) and then stopped cycling. Now, hitting my mid life crisis and think how good i would look on tight jerseys and bips, I start cycling again by starting to revive the old lady. After few rides trying to climb with Columbus steel frame, I think I might need something to replace my back wheel to something lighter and helps me with the climb. So, what i'm looking right now is a new wheelset preferably just the back wheel which can support my 8 cassette campy

Thanks for asking smile.gif

Sorry to burst your bubble. But, I don't think that's gonna happen, either through the lack of parts or technically impossible.

But, you should still get a shop to check it first in case they really might have some parts if it is technically possible.

Or maybe you'd want to consider a 2nd hand 9 to 10-speed group and go from there. Then you have no issues with any campy compatible wheels in market.

But, seriously... if there is any wheel that will make a difference... might as well you just spend the money or save up more for a new more modern rig... That would make a much bigger difference.

Leave the classic for some more casual rides...

Thanks for the suggestion and I think that might be a good idea as well just to save up for a more recent bicycle and keep the old lady for an occasional ride and sentimental value purposes. Thanks for the ideas *butthead* happy.gif

my predictions are Orica greenedge... and by 9 seconds...and ted king is going to get the boot by missing time cut off by 7 seconds... BMC going to lose massive time, and some taiwan cheap bikes (merida) will be faster than them...

saxo bank tinkoff will be hiding and sandbagging...
