Thinking of getting a tablet for kids' gaming.

Which OS has better games and gaming experience?

Heard it's apple with their apple-exclusive games that was made for and works best in IOs. True? blush.gif

Or is android having the same games as apple now?

Please recommend, thanks. icon_question.gif

most of the games for young kids (below 12)... both are about the same. i mean... if you're talking about simple platform games, or the candy crush thing... they are popular enough to be on both ios (apple) and android.

getting the hardware... Nexus 7... quite a decent tablet. easily can get at about rm700. you can play most games anyway. read ebooks too...

if you're talking about RPG or hack and slash... some are exclusive to only one platform like Infinity Blade (for IOS only) and Ingress (Android only).

games generally get released first on ios (still generally bigger user base and since the models are limited, easier to develop) and then later made available to Android.

I just forgotten one important point in my question.

For free games, are there any differences between both OS?

I know for android, don't need to root in order to install games. But I think for apple, need to JB to do same.

Games made for phones can just buy Apple tablets.

DS, GBA, PSX, SNES, N64 games played on emulators can use Android.

if for kids,i think both similar...
cos most games that need to pay are likely to be RPG those...
else itll be inapp purchase where u can play without even paying but might not fully enjoy the full feature of the app

But majority of the popular titles have multi platform. But if you're okay with playing on a tablet, then iPad is better (for now). If on phone, iphone's screen is too small in my opinion.

if budget is really a constraint. ya.... china tablet with android os is an option.

else... its a very bad choice. the specs is simply ridiculous to support android.
android needs a mid range spec to run smoothly, where china tablet wont give that...

I'm a apple user, from a android user actually. I would prefer apple games. They are much more range of games and software. Their graphic are way better too, maybe HD. Apple developer have to go through a tight security before it appear on AppStore this will be 100% safe.

i think u get the wrong concept ady.

Free games, both apple and android are the same.

Pirated games, apple have to jb, but android doesnt need to root.

Both apple and androids have Paid games.

If u can afford rm6 pirated DVD in pasar malam, why not rm3 original app?

please support the developer. say NO to pirates.

Exactly. If you can afford it, please support the developers. Things like this won't foster the Android development very well, and is probably one of the reasons Apple always get the exclusives from indie developers.

well, what do you expect? These are honest developers trying to earn a living by selling apps, what happens when their app are being pirated more than 90% of the player base?

Would you send out this message if its not out of desperation? Imagine your salary being less than 800 per month? Indie developers are not like the big companies, they are literally a small group of people or even a single person trying to make a living out of selling apps. This is why support the games that you like, especially when they are selling a one off price.

hence the idea of in-game-purchase "cheats".
if they dunno how to create in-game-purchases, perhaps they shld not involve in making games to begin with...
game companies like EA, Gameloft, Squarenix, they dun really care whether u can pirate their games or not, they are making loads of profit from in-game purchases alone...why?

U need to purchase ONCE to buy a game.
But In-game-purchases, u may need to buy many many times... (example: 0.99 cent for 10 gems...which btw, can easily spent it all within an hour or less! )

sure, maybe u can say "chey, in-game purchases also can be hacked la..."
question is: how many ppl are so great in hacking a ios/ android game in this world? im guessing less than 10% of gamers out there knows how to hack...as the rest only knows to dl other ppl's hacks ...that is assuming it is virus free and wont spoil ur phone's Operating System.

most of my friends who jailbreak, pirate apps also hack the IAP stuff.

me, on the other side, only buy games that don't have IAP.
IAP sucks.

If for kids, like playing Angry Birds, Where's My Water etc, I don't think got difference.

Apple specific games ain't really targeting kids. Games like CoC and RR3 is actually targeting adults who has the ability to make IAP.

Opps, RR3 is not Apple specific...

You hit the point. That is exactly the bullshit that I dislike. We should strive to avoid developers to resort to IAP, because this is exactly what destroys the gaming experience. It's the pay-to-win bullshit.

Granted some games do this elegantly, only cosmetics IAP such as Ski Safari, but most developers have made their game unplayable unless you pay to progress or pay to hit the highest score. Alas the reality is the opposite, the top grossing game are the ones with tons of IAPs, the only one with a one off price coming close to being top 10 grossing is FF3 with the $20USD pricing.

The one posted in the screenshot? They have resorted to IAPs with their other titles, so they do know how to do it, they just try to avoid it with their first title. Let's just say they learned their lesson there.

I'm also Apple/Android gamer for now.
(iPhone 4/iPad Mini)
(Alcatel One Tough Glory 2S/AigoPad M60)

Apple games are more versatile and game friendlier.

Answering the question, it's no contest that Apple's iOS has better games.

Not only in terms of sheer quantity, it's also heavily optimised due to the restricted set of devices devs can develop on.

On the other side, Android do tend to have issues for gaming. It's not really of the question of horsepower either. Specs-wise, just recently the newer devices are really capable in gaming (the ones with Adreno 320 and PowerVR MP GPUs). But then some games may not run on the other device. Not to mention on how some newer high end devices can't even download certain games from Play Store.

Also, due to the easy-ness on committing piracy on Android (put in the APK, and install right away), some game development company also treating it as second-class citizen. Some might even skip the annual release, such as FIFA 13. Patches also came in pretty slow, so newer devices can't download those existing titles either.

Well, the only way for gaming to thrive on Android is that they need some "push" like what Nvidia did with Tegra Zone games. It's just too bad that Tegra bombed, without any design win this year (except the first party Shield).

.

btw, if TS child is still small, all those preschool games are pretty much available on both devices. Worry not, Sesame Workshop interactive games are also available on Android for example.

I use both Android and iOS.

I game on both.

My take - go iOS. Sure, I love Android to bits and it's my primary mobile OS for work and such (because iOS just doesn't work for me at all).

When it comes to games, go iOS and you won't see stuff like below .........

Mind you, the above photo was a screenshot from the HTC One that I'm using now. WTH!?!?!?

I could play it on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus (i9250) that by now costs only 1/3 the HTC One and I couldn't play it!

So yeah, you get the drift.
