As tempting as its much cheaper price, do try to steer away from non-Lego bricks. The initial high of getting big sets with cheap price will immediately vaporised, the moment one tries to assemble it. Sharp edges. Loose joints. Extra hard joints. Unfit joints. The frustration is monumental!
Enlighten, Sluban..all are good for "testing" only. After our curiosity are fed, one will back to Lego
I think it is ok tho for those parents that prefer not to spend more $ on Lego, to opt for those non-Lego bricks. Me, fortunately, still can and willing to choose Lego, are looking at longer term...sampai cucu-cicit

Lego is more of a toy, great for creativity, can build, rebuild, and moc, great replay value
'lego compatible' is more like build once, either display it or forget it.
