the model has potential but your choice of background is horrible at best.

the colors of the roof at the back just spoils the photo, and you must bear in mind that bright areas get the attention first - guess where that is?

The subject is under-exposed as well.

Will bokeh save that picture? It doesn't look like he is shooting wide open for that picture.

Edit: Checked the EXIF, he was shooting at 85mm at f5.6

I like the background. Is that a backdrop or something else?

Based on the light falloff at the left side, I think it's a printed landscape, the hue on the lens was also different.

Sharing some shots and also a short review of the Tamron 70-200 Macro I just bought last week.

Macro ability - It was quite good, and I get a very long working distance so those bugs won't get frightened by me. It's also safer for me when photographing bees or any bugs that might attack me. The magnification rate of course can't be compared with true macro lens, but not everyone need 1:1 magnification all the time, so it's quite convenient for me to use. Down sides are the images were quite soft if taken at 200mm f2.8 at max magnification, even if you get the correct focus, images will still turn out really soft and glow, shooting at f4 will result you very sharp images. The lack of VC also makes you had to shoot at a higher shutter speed when shooting closely, the best I can get at closest focusing is 1/125 shutter speed without any blur.

For general usage, it is quite good. Problem is, the focusing isn't that accurate sometimes, it will front focus most of the time. Try to focus a few times and you will get the right focus. When things are in focus, be ready to impressed by the sharpness. It was even sharper than the famous Canon 70-200L f2.8 Mark I. Handholding the lens isn't quite a problem since it was lighter than any other 70-200 that's equipped with IS and have f2.8 maximum aperture. Manual focusing on this lens isn't that hard since I can get sharp macro shots with it too.

Overall, not a bad lens, just that you might get rage if you are shooting fast moving objects or low light where the weakest point of the lens - focusing, spoils most of the pictures.

Good to know that tamron is still able to produce decent lens.

Considering to get a Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VC in the future for photo and video but the upcoming sigma f/2 seems a little tempting lol.
*
Tamron was producing awesome new lineup of lenses recently that received a lot of attention until Sigma announced their future lenses and killed everything haha.

Tamron 17-50 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 (old version) has been an awesome combo all these years.

Canon users donno how to appreciate only because all insisting on having USM despite their photography is mainly on still subjects.
*
haha yeah, pair those 2 lens with a xxxD or xxD and you are good to go, can cover a lot of kinds of photography. But strangely last time when I used my friend's 17-50 f2.8, the focusing was really slow and loud, a lot slower and louder than the 70-200, the zoom ring was quite stiff to turn too. Not sure if it is just that his unit is something wrong or is it the general character of the lens? but USM is really poisoning brows.gif

talk about tamron 17-50mm f2.8 , it's not really good in f2.8 , but after u stop down to f4 , yes this lens will show u the power , focusing in low light is quite terrible especially using outer focus point , middle point sometime will hit and miss , the focus system quite alike the canon 50mm f1.8 II  biggrin.gif  , but once u try USM lenses , there is no turn back  biggrin.gif

I have no problem in good lightning situation  smile.gif

About the zoom ring , some unit will turn smoothly , but some unit really damn stiff  sad.gif  , my unit is smooth (sold to my fren already) while my nikon's fren unit is damn stiff until u need to apply alot of force to turn the zoom ring  sweat.gif
You pay what u get actually haha
*
haha that's very true, the speed and accuracy of it really awesome thumbup.gif

the only reason I'm using USM lens is for FTM purpose. It helps in my line of photography, and also videography.
*
Maybe I am too used to MF/AF switch, when I use USM lenses, i still prefer to fiddle the switch rather than over riding the AF to do focus adjustment. The tamron sucks in this regard, the push pull mechanism isn't that bad, but not that convenient to use soemtimes when you are holding the camera in some position.

i set my AF button to the * button. Shutter button only handles shutter.

Focusing will never happen even on AF.
*
I tried this setting on my friend's 60D before, really useful for USM lenses.

This is one of the reason why i am thinking to upgrade to 60D, but if i don't own any USM lenses there's no point to do so.

actually non USM lens also can.

I did the same settings for my 350D. So in AF mode, it doesn't focus no matter what you press. Focusing only moves when press *.

No manual override only.

setting AF to other button helps when you're using AI-focus / AI-servo to track subject.
*
can 550D do the same? can't agree more with you, last time when I was shooting sports event with my friend's 70-200, I set the camera to AI servo mode. but then when i want to take pics of static subjects instantly, i got frustrated by the camera constantly hunting for focus.

canon lens no need think so much.

As long as EF / EF-S lens means can use on your DSLR body. Don't need to headache motor on head, body, backside, whatever nonsense.

He already asked everything about a camera, including a lot of nonsense, yet still not buying it. doh.gif

Need opinion from travel photographers. I guess 1 trip it may cause around 1-2k photos and depend on how many days...May I know you guys shot in Raw or JPEG ?
*
Regarding shooting in RAW or JPEG, it depends on individual imo. If you have a large memory card, shoot RAW. If you have the time to edit every pictures, shoot RAW.

You mean to say if you shoot 1k pictures you are going to EDIT 1k pictures? shocking.gif

Best to learn to pick the good ones and delete the rest smile.gif
*
Yeah, no point keeping all the 1k images.

Or maybe shoot RAW + JPEG? Keep the file as JPEG only for pictures that you don't think is good enough, but still wanted to keep it as memory. Save as RAW and edit for the images that you really liked.

I can understand when you travel you wanna take a lot of pictures of everything around tongue.gif

Ngam...you understand my feeling tongue.gif
Some place may not go again ....

Usually I keep either raw or jpeg, I cant save both due to limited storage of memory card sad.gif
*
I've experienced the same before, end up spent few days going through all the pictures.

Hmm... memory cards are quite cheap actually, perhaps you should consider getting another card? I have 32gb SD card but never use more than 20% of the space on it, I like to keep my card clean so I always format it after some period.
