QUOTE(wanttobuylaptop @ Oct 8 2013, 12:26 PM) After a month, I don't think they will do a straight one-to-one exchange for you. You will probably be asked to send it in to the Asus Service Centre and they will try to repair or replace the relevant part under warranty. Replacement of spare parts will be subject to part availability and should have no relation to the number of retail units in stock. Whole unit will be whole units, parts will be parts. Just my 2 sen.

QUOTE(66p99 @ Oct 8 2013, 01:06 PM) my son also bought a nexus 7 2013 from this shop, this was the first time we deal with them, I have to admit the price they offer is a bit cheaper compare with other shops selling RM1229 / RM1245 and senQ RM1299 with 2 yrs warranty, but i will not recommend my friends to buy gadgets from this shop and i also definitely will not deal with them again. there were 2 staffs in the shop when we went, the one who served my son is really conceited and bad-mannered, poor service...truly speaking there is no service provided at all! what the customers have to do are just paying money> grab the products > leave!!! that day my son asked if he could see the tablet and the staff said yes, my son incidentally tore the wrapping paper off the sealed box but still not yet tear off the seal, and was told he MUST buy the tablet! the man talked-back to my son: "Just now u said u want this ah!" he dun even give an advanced warning! later on my son asked few question about the tablet, that man jus looked at my son with an impatient face showing "why you ask these questions".... what we can do then? so we just paid for the tablet and left the place! Sometimes, cheap=no service

QUOTE(benny888 @ Oct 9 2013, 06:01 PM) Read it again how can toolkit be complicated? Is a simple matter of choose what you want n just click TWRP I feel is better as it backup n restore faster by at least 50% vs CWM. You can select backup to external thumb drive. Backup is one single folder CWM backup in 2 different folders. If you have more than 1 backup no way you can identify the backup in the obb folder. This makes deleting any backup you don't need difficult. I m not too sure whether CWM allow backup to external media as previous version cannot Hi Benny, Just want to clarify (a basic thing for some here, I guess), if I root and install a custom recovery like TWRP (assuming I don't do anything else - no other customisations), I won't be able to receive OTA updates from Google in the usual manner, right? If I want those OTA updates in the usual manner, I will have to stick to stock recovery?

QUOTE(Cynox @ Oct 10 2013, 10:43 AM) you will still receive the OTA and auto download it but it will fail to install. And it is very annoying that it will keep bugging you to install the update. But can just flash the pre-rooted stock rom from XDA, if available to update to the latest version and get rid of the annoying bugging. need to wait for uncle Benny's confirmation though, not 100% sure on this coz i not yet root both my N7 2013, only the old N7 2012 wifi was rooted and flashed with custom rom. Lazy to do it in the new ones and dun find compelling reason to do so yet. Thanks Cynox

QUOTE(benny888 @ Oct 10 2013, 11:35 AM) You can only update firmware through OTA successfully on STOCK kernel only . The OTA update will work even if you are rooted, as long as you haven't modified/deleted any of the existing OS files But why bother to update through OTA when you have rooted and have custom recovery. Just download the latest update image from google developers ( these usually available 2-3 days after the update is officially released) and flash the latest update using toolkit or through the usual ADB commands and you will have rom updated Thanks so much for your info, Benny. At the moment, I don't have any other reason to root except for maybe using Titanium Backup (which I hope works on stock recovery - I have not done enough research on this point yet, admittedly) or backup using the Toolkit and perhaps modifying the touchscreen drivers as per that "famous" thread over at XDA. But holding out on that for the moment (I have touchscreen problems but not too serious for me yet) and see whether the upcoming KitKat release improves anything. At moment, I am quite happy with the stock ROM until I get bored with it, I guess. I can usually wait for OTA updates unless there was something ultra seriously bad with the current firmware. In this sense, I must say I am rather "lazy" and OTA just seems to be more convenient as the download sort of happens by itself directly to the device in the background and I don't have to really do anything extra.

QUOTE(wanttobuylaptop @ Oct 10 2013, 02:47 PM) root does not mean to lose OTA. can still get OTA as long as is stock rom. Root does give a lot of options for our nexus. Yes, it does. But maybe I'll delay root for now, on second thoughts. KitKat 4.4 will be out by the end of this month (if not sooner), so I'll just delay root till then.

QUOTE(jacktay94 @ Oct 10 2013, 05:36 PM) delay root=more data loss. unlock bootloader= wipe whole phone. are u ready for tat? Actually if you use mskip's Toolkit, can backup prior to unlocking bootloader. Can back up apps plus associated data and back up internal storage. Backing up user system settings can use Google's back up (Google's back up can also back up apps). So, it's ok laaa... This post has been edited by jpaq: Oct 11 2013, 05:04 PM
