As the world's biggest and richest club, Manchester United reach a global fanbase.

Part of the attraction for fans around the world has been the football luminaries, such as George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton, who have graced the Old Trafford turf in a Manchester United shirt over the years.

Recently, Manchester United have continued to attract or develop some of the game's biggest names, with England stalwarts such as Paul Scholes and David Beckham having been regular fixtures in the Reds line-up.

The Manchester United team, past and present, reads like a who's who of world football.

It is only fitting that a great team should grace a great stadium. And with Old Trafford's recent development and the closure of Wembley, the ground is easily the largest in English football, holding in excess of 60,000 fans.

Despite this capacity, the demand to see United in action is so great that tickets are hard to come by.

But it isn't only Manchester United fans who flock to Old Trafford. The standard of the ground is such that it regularly hosts high-profile games, most notably, the Champions League Final and Great Britain rugby league games.

Rock fans have also made use of the Reds's facilities, watching a number of high-profile acts at the ground.

But it's football that will forever be synonymous with the Reds famous ground - and with good reason.

The last decade has seen Manchester United under the shrewd leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson maintain a virtual stranglehold on the Premiership crown.

Manchester United has won the league no fewer than 18 times in their history. They are also Cup Kings too, winning the FA cup 11 times, the league cup 4 times, as well as winning the European Super Cup, European Cup Winner's Cup, and 3 times being crowned European Cup champions.

Manchester United has long become a name associated with success both on and off the pitch.

As club profits continue to grow, Manchester United have become one of the richest sports clubs on the planet.

With supporters club branches on every continent, it's hard to go any where in the world and not see somebody wearing the famous red shirt of Manchester United.

QUOTE(zenix @ Nov 24 2009, 09:18 PM)
Hope Alien will sticky this info later.
Though written in 2006 so no Roy Keane yet.

Ex-United players that have moved on to become managers.

Written by Simon Stone (MARCH 22, 2006)

STEVE BRUCE (1987-1996): Took his first steps in management with Sheffield United in 1998, then swiftly moved on to Huddersfield, Wigan and Crystal Palace. Left Selhurst Park in acrimonious fashion after Birmingham targeted him as the replacement for Trevor Francis in 1991. Took Blues into the Premier League but after a heavy FA Cup defeat is struggling to keep his job.

MARTIN POWELL (1971-1983): Stylish and well-respected Scotland centre-half whose authoritative nature appeared to make him a natural for the management game. Lasted four months at Burnley.

SIR BOBBY CHARLTON (1956-1973): Arguably the finest English player of all time proved to be an unmitigated disaster as a manager. Claimed he was not given the resources to make a decent job of it at Preston but was never lured back into management following his departure after a single season.

STEVE COPPELL (1975-1983): After a knee injury cut his playing career short at just 28, Coppell turned his attention to management. Steered Crystal Palace into the FA Cup final and then third place in the old First Division - the Eagles' highest ever - the following season. It was the first of four stints in charge at Selhurst Park in a career which has seen him move to Manchester City (for only six games), Brentford and Brighton. Now at Reading and about to steer the Royals into the top flight for the first time.

PADDY CRERAND (1962-1971): A key figure in United's 1968 European Cup triumph, Crerand lasted five months at Northampton before getting the bullet and, like Charlton, never managed again.

MARK HUGHES (1983-86, 1988-95): Hughes was never tipped as a manager by Ferguson but has taken to the game with ease. Took Wales into the Euro 2004 play-offs. Took over at Blackburn shortly afterwards, steering Rovers away from danger in his first season. Currently in contention for a Champions League spot.

BRIAN KIDD (1967-1974): Another European Cup winner who proved to be a poor manager. Got itchy feet in 1998 after spending seven years as Sir Alex Ferguson's highly-rated assistant. Took command at Blackburn but dismissed six months later.

BRYAN ROBSON (1981-94): United's inspirational leader under Ron Atkinson and Ferguson. There are two schools of thought on his stint at Middlesbrough - he either spent lots and achieved little (relegation and two losing finals) or he laid the platform for the Teessiders to become an established Premiership outfit. Kept West Brom up in extraordinary fashion last year but back in trouble again this season.

GORDON STRACHAN (1984-89): Scotland international who won the FA Cup with United and the title of the pre-Premiership era with Leeds. Sacked after five years at when the Sky Blues lost top-flight status, then enjoyed success at Southampton - reaching the 2003 Cup final - before resigning to spend more time with his family. Now at Celtic, has recovered from a humiliating Champions League exit to Artmedia Bratislava, and, after winning his first trophy on Sunday in the CIS Insurance Cup, is set to clinch the Scottish Premier League.

NOBBY STILES (1960-71): Along with Charlton, one of only two Englishmen to have won the World Cup and European Cup, he replaced his former England and United team-mate at Preston, with limited success. After a brief stint in Vancouver, returned to England to take over as manager of West Brom. Sacked after five months, having gained just three wins.

QUOTE
Moyes makes youth promise

David Moyes has promised to uphold Manchester United's traditions of bringing young players into the first team.

The Everton manager is replacing Sir Alex Ferguson at the Old Trafford helm on 1 July and will be paying close attention to the Academy and the younger players below the senior squad.

It is clear that the Scot is aware of the need to develop English talent and this is an area where United currently excel. The likes of Phil Jones, Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck and Chris Smalling are already established internationals but there are plenty more with potential further down the production line.

Wilfried Zaha is joining the club in the summer from Crystal Palace while Nick Powell was personally scouted by Moyes, according to reports at the time, during his stay at Crewe Alexandra. Warren Joyce's Under-21 side, in action against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, also includes a number of bright Englishmen with Tom Thorpe, Larnell Cole, Ryan Tunnicliffe and Jesse Lingard all mainstays of the successful team.

Everton's youngsters were unlucky to lose out to a late goal at Tottenham in the other semi-final of the Barclays Under-21 Premier League this week and the Merseysiders edged United out of a last-four spot in the Under-18 competition by virtue of a superior goal difference.

"Manchester United have always relied hugely on young players and my priority will always be to promote these talents," Moyes is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail during his address to the Cambridge Union on Monday night.

"It is the right way to go. We need to be producing better English players and we are working to find the solutions. My aim would be to develop these young English players and get more and more coming through.

"[However] There are issues to resolve. How do we get them more games at a competitive level? I like the Spanish model where there is a B team playing in the lower divisions. Could we implement the same here? That would be a starting point.

"Three years ago, I wanted to get the young Everton team into the Conference, as it would be a good place to compete. The FA told us we would have to start from the bottom - in division 27 or something!"

Cleverley treasures title

Tom Cleverley expressed his delight at picking up his first Barclays Premier League winner’s medal at the end of a breakthrough season.

The 23-year-old midfielder is one of a clutch of players in the Manchester United squad who are savouring the feeling of winning the title for the first time.

And he could hardly contain his excitement when interviewed by MUTV during the Reds’ triumphant trophy parade through Manchester on Monday night.

"It is one of the best feelings ever; this is what you work for as a player and it feels unbelievable to have the trophy in my hands," he said.

"I have been at the club for a long time now and I know it is all about winning things, so to be part of that is massive for me. I am buzzing."

Cleverley has looked at home in United’s midfield during a campaign in which he also earned international recognition for the first time.

"I have done all right (this season)," he admitted. "I’ve played over 30 games, managed to break into the England team and obviously won my first bit of silverware.

"I am looking to improve next year but, all in all, I am happy."

Cleverley will continue his development next season without the guiding support of two men who have been hugely influential on his career so far.

"Paul Scholes is the best player I’ve ever played with," Cleverley declared. "It’s been a pleasure and he is a top guy as well. I have to thank him.

"Since I have been alive, all I have known is Sir Alex Ferguson. He has been fantastic for me and fantastic for the club. I’d like to say thank you to him as well."

Van Persie savours parade

Robin van Persie was thrilled to see the people of Manchester sharing in his title joy on Monday evening, when the champions paraded the Barclays Premier League trophy through the city.

The Dutchman spoke of his delight from the top deck of United's bus, as he surveyed the scenes on Chester Road and Deansgate on the route from Old Trafford to Albert Square.

"Everyone is so happy, it's just incredible," van Persie told MUTV.

"This trophy is for the fans, the players, the staff... the one thing I really like is it's made so many people so happy. You see kids, babies, women, men, all sorts of people are so happy and I'm very pleased to see that."

Van Persie is still getting acquainted with the Premier League silverware after lifting it for the first time in his career on Sunday.

"The medal hasn't left my neck since yesterday, it's been here all night," he said. "The trophy's a heavy trophy and it's great to win it finally."

United's top scorer in 2012/13 praised the welcoming atmosphere at Old Trafford as he reflected on a successful and "incredible" first season with the Reds.

"It's been really good settling in. The boys have been really, really nice to me from day one. I've noticed that they want to share success and I'm like that as well. I want to have success but I want everyone to play their part in it which they did.

"The guys have great banter, they're good guys, funny guys, we joke around a lot but when we have to work, we do that. We train hard and we play hard as well so hopefully there will be many more trophies to come. I'm sure that will happen with this team.

"We've got loads of big characters. This is what I like about this team. Everyone is his own character, everyone adds to the team. To become champions in the end, every little thing helps."

Van Persie also had a heartfelt eulogy for the manager he has worked with for only one season - Sir Alex Ferguson.

"To be able to work with Sir Alex for one year, it's been a massive year. It's been an unbelievable year which I will never forget. He's an unbelievable manager, maybe the best ever. But he's an even greater person. I'm really honoured to have worked with him."

worse of all:

QUOTE
Manchester City's dismal performance in the Champions League is set to cost them dear in the draw for next season's group stage.

Roberto Mancini failed to win a single match in the competition, finishing bottom of a tough group featuring Ajax, Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid, meaning City were unable to improve their UEFA coefficient score. They are now highly likely to drop from the second pot of seeds to the third pot.

it is usually not good news.

if you need to do qualifying chances you qualify against stronger teams.
when at group stages you're lump into stronger teams.

Newcastle 'preparing bid for Rooney'
http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1448505/...-rooney?cc=5739

QUOTE
The SportsDirect.com source is quoted as saying: "Newcastle see Wayne as their ideal player. He's a strong centre-forward, would relate to the fans and would be a massive boost to the club's brand name.

"Low-level conversations have already been held between Newcastle and Rooney's agent, though the two clubs haven't spoken directly yet."

On the most talented players he’s worked with

'Thomas Gravesen was an excellent player and he ended up at Real Madrid. Wayne Rooney is an incredible player. For us at Everton though, it has rarely been about individuals – it has been about team spirit and commitment with a sprinkle of quality.[SIZE=7] Tim Cahill came back for my final game yesterday and he was a great team player for me.'

Cant wait to see moyes bring more of this to the team...i want him to continue build the togetherness in the team to the core...to the bonds of family n nakama...ahahahaha

its not that i forgot...i want moyes to continue building it to the core...i know our club is build based on this...i just want it to be more strengthened so that every lads in the team will feel at home...so that no such a thing like rooney's issue wud arise...i think the togetherness can be improved...so that we can play full to our potential...

Neville said: ‘He (Rooney) is an emotional lad and he needs to consider what he’s done.

‘He’s 27 and there’s nowhere to go. I’ve seen players join Real Madrid and they want to come back. He loves football, the players will look after him. He’s been vacant on the pitch recently and he’s not been himself.

‘He’s sat up there in that box watching the game, but he needs to surround himself with friends and family.

‘This is a good kid. He’s not rash, just emotional. These players have massive egos. When they don’t play against Real Madrid in the Champions League they get down, but they have to deal with adversity.

‘There is an international break coming and that will be an important time for him to enjoy his football again.’

Thomas Gravesen, I admired him while he was a midfield general for Everton, Fergie wanted to sign him too but he chose Madrid and it all went downhill just like that. Only thing about Gravesen was..prone to injuries. But was a good player in his prime

Watch this guy adnan januzaj, reserves player of the year!

Januzaj voted star man

QUOTE
Adnan Januzaj has been voted United's Reserve Team Player of the Year for 2013.

The 18-year-old has emerged as a key figure for Warren Joyce's side since the turn of the year and has made an impressive step up in age group as he continues to learn his trade.

After appearing for the first team in last year's pre-season friendly at Aberdeen, Januzaj has become a more rounded footballer, retaining his flair and creative skills but adding tenacity and work ethic to his game under the tutelage of Warren Joyce.

The Brussels-born youngster produced another excellent display in the Under-21s' semi-final victory against Liverpool at Old Trafford this week and has earned praise from both Sir Alex Ferguson and Joyce for his progress.

"It's always a great feeling to be Player of the Year," he said. "I've been working hard and just want to thank all the players, fans and staff. It's been a great season.

"It's hard when you're injured as you want to show everyone what you can do. I couldn't last year so I've done it this year and I'm really proud to be the Player of the Year."

Januzaj polled over half of the fans' vote to win the Denzil Haroun trophy with Marnick Vermijl in second place and captain Tom Thorpe finishing third.

about becks...i think he is sad that SAF his father figure is stepping down...so he call it a day...he is such an influence to becks...im sure most of fergie fledgling will somehow comeback to the club to carry on the club philosophy...becks will be back...he will be our ambassador...once u wear the jersey...u will always part of man utd family...he is born red...no doubt he will give something back to the club...

another word from our glassman they used to call...louis saha...i like him for his left foot snapshot...so luvly...

You’ve called some of the biggest stadia in England your home (St James’ Park, Stadium of Light, Old Trafford, Goodison Park) – at which stadium did you feel the most energy from the fans?
It would be easy to say Old Trafford but where I felt the spirit of the ‘12th player’ was at Everton. There is definitely something special there as the crowd are right behind you and very demanding at the same time. I really felt it there, there are some special fans there.

I would say that they felt like a ‘12th man’. With the spirit of the club, when you play for Everton you feel like any team that is coming to Goodison Park will feel the pressure. The way the team plays and the way the team defends is definitely like a unit. (Looking forward Moyes bring more of that to our game) Goodison would only come second in terms of the numbers to Old Trafford.

Manchester United just celebrated their 20th title and you played under Sir Alex Ferguson, who is now retiring, for four years. What lessons did you learn from him?
The first lesson straightaway is the consistency. He is a very demanding manager but he is trying to understand your quality and improve on it. Some managers try to improve the mistakes but he tries to emphasise the quality of every player. He makes the team play in a certain way to emphasise your quality – that is something that is really special as a manager because you may think that he would be trying to erase mistakes but he tries to make sure that you keep doing the things you’re good at. That is something I learned from him – consistency.

Whatever you do – whether it’s scoring goals or whatever – you have to do it every week. When you win a title, the hardest thing is to do it the next year and obviously he has that in him. Every player said at the start of this season that they never saw him like he has been this year. He has been very demanding with the players, very harsh and trying to improve them. He is older but he has still acting like a really young manager with a lot of passion. That is something special.

Would you say that Ryan Giggs is one of the best players you’ve played with?
Yes definitely the best player. So many players wish to play with him and if you do so, you know you’ll be playing at a top level. Giggsy is a top example for any professional not only the youngsters because he’s got that desire and respect for the tradition of the club and his work ethic. When you have the chance to work with someone like him it is a privilege.

vs N.Korea wasnt it?

my summer dream muppet will be Ronaldo and Fabregas. which both very unlikely. Bale also worth a dream.

i believe DM fancy of them. but there will be huge financial obstacle and the player/s (esp Fabregas) not keen for switch. Ronaldo also since SAF will be gone. Bale will be interest to move abroad more i think, if Spurs failed to book their place in CL.

DM will definitely buy a midfielder or 2. im not interested with Fellaini at first, but DM know the player well. ill not complaint if we get him. he'll be useful to European games, esp against passing teams like Barca /Dortmund. midfield 3 of Carrick-Fellaini-Kagawa will be a great engine room.

dont want any of Jagielka and Baines (media talks). Phill Neville will be great addition to backroom staff.

2 CMs (one proven + one young prospect), and retaining Rooney (and Nani) will be a great platform for DM to launch his OT career.

if add in another central midfielder, very pack liao. Also, Fellaini prefers defensive position, which is carrick's role.

We really need to see more of anderson and cleverly, hope they stay fit next season!

We really need another winger.. this season's wingers very poor tbh. Bale Bale Bale!

Just give us Fabregas and everything will fall into place. That and get our wings performing again.

Get rid of Young. Hope Valencia turn back time, and if that doesn't happen, ship out next January. Convince Nani to sign a new contract and play him every game. If he doesn't want, get rid and get one super duper winger or about to become one ala Hazard/Lucas. Damn you money making us miss out last season. Zaha looks gooding so that's a start. Get one of them to perform at their best consistently, and put Kagawa on the opposite side. Cun.

Could do with someone able to do Fletcher/Carrick's work. Imagine if Carrick is out for 3 months. We're fuuuu

*something about Valencia's poor form
O'Shea years ago when he was awesome at LB even nutmegging Figo..and one summer later, he turns into this slow awkward big guy. I think maybe the same happens to Valencia. Something physically not right with his body anymore. I think injuries play some part as well. CR also did the same.. 06/07 he was just awesome. After that he slowly turns into this freak scoring machine. No longer was he able to twist and turn like he was before that.

Young is bad. Not sure if the pressure of donning the red of Manchester affected his confidence? He can barely get past defenders, needs to be shipped out. Our Left wing is pretty weak, we need a natural left winger. Bale is slowly moving into the forward role already but still a good addition.

As for Cesc, Arsenal fans sure rage one. Another 'former' captain joining their rivals tongue.gif but still worth going after.

Valencia problem is simple. He's very one footed. The weaker foot also play big part for any footballer especially for winger. Their position demands high level of dynamism and unpredictability. Most professional, world class winger can dribble, control, trapping, turning, passing, crossing, and shifting, spreading their weight on their weaker side as well.

However with Valencia, he rely everything on his strong side which is his right foot. Rarely seen he takes touch, cross, dribble with his left foot. It makes his play very predictable and one dimensional. Opposition player just have to stand their ground as they know Valencia don't have the ability to cut inside, and because of his one-footed style he can't play on the left. His marker just have to force him wide all the time, render him useless. That's why he always hugging the touchline, because of his limitation. You can argue it's like old school out and out winger, which rely heavily on pace and power but nobody can maintain such intensity throughout their career. Let alone coming back from injury.

Take a look at Bale. Ever since he's working on both of his feet (and his upper body strength), he has improved tremendously. He can play anywhere upfront. His right foot is as good as his left. Making him a machine, very unpredictable.

Bale is following Ronaldo's footsteps I guess. Ronaldo can operate with his weaker foot, doubt we can call it a weaker foot now since both left-right are equally good. Not sure about Bale's heading abilities, haven't watch much of him scoring with his head. If he does improve on his heading ability, will be a complete forward. His free-kick practices came into good use too, scoring quite a few from free-kicks. Bale's ability is quite admirable.

Making him a machine, very unpredictable.

well the thing is, even though he's one dimensional, he's very good at it, was an unstoppable beast last season, but for whatever reason, this season his form dropped really steep, and not just on the offensive side but also the defensive side as well...luckily we've got Rafael to cover his arse there sweat.gif sweat.gif

I think he scores a couple this season. His heading is not as good as Ronaldo but his leaping ability might be as good as Ronaldo. Dare i say this season Bale has better shooting and free-kick technique than Ronaldo. There was a talk about him looking to improve his right foot further in this summer, have to admire his dedication and motivation. He really want to be the best player in the world. And to think he's still a prospect not a finished article.. what a scary thought.

thats the challenge playing for a big team like United, the opponent will focus most part of their pre-match preparation as to how to break down our attack

and valencia I believed has been identified as the one can be most easily nullified with his single-dimensional play. if he doesnt not work on his weaker foot this summer i think his place will not be safe next season

On Valencia, like what Saha said before, SAF usually emphasized on the quality of one player, not trying to fix the weakness of one..

cesc plays in the same role as kagawa.
unless we change our formation or some players leave don't see why.

in the last 2 years Fabregas was utilized as forward (Spain/Barca), false #9/creative #10/wide forward.

Spain dont have regular CF with Villa and Torres struggle with fitness/form. so Fabregas usually the CF/false #9/wide forward. at Barca, Fabregas played either flank or behind Messi, and sometime occupy Messi role (false #9) if Messi injured /rest (mind im not regularly following Spain/Barca, but ive watched most of their big games)

IMO Fabregas best position are CM, like his best days at Arsenal. or Xavi position at Barca. so basically the likes of Cleverley and Anderson will effect more if United buy Fabregas. not Rooney or Kagawa.

i rate Fabregas to United are far more unlikely than Ronaldo to United, which also very unlikely. Fabregas is Catalans, Xavi is not getting any younger, United were his former team arch rival.. City and Chelsea would enter bidding war too if Fabregas available, they could add some CM too.

but hey, if someone tell me in May last year RVP will join United on the next August, ill also tell him its very unlikely.. we can dream though, let DM decide..

in defence of valencia...i think thats why we hav set of winger that are different from each other...some games...maybe valencia works wonder...tormenting the fullback...not this season tho...nani bring something else...flair n cut inside...young bring crosses n dribling n winning freekicks...welbeck play there n brings quick counter attack...there are different in each games...some games they are effective some games they are nowhere to be seen...as for me...this season the winger dept is in serious slump...injury, very un-consistent week in week out...cos normally our winger always perform in every season...out of the un-consistent winger dept...maybe valencia is fit n decipline enuf to play for SAF...that why he always in the team sheet...even he also admit he is under perform this term...

well, in my opinion on Valencia, I just felt that he is simply too predictable, his over reliance on his strong foot put him in such a predictable situation. if he can't outrun his defender, he will just back pass to rafael or other CBs, or at most sideway passing.

whereas, young and nani tends to cut in from wide, and they often make a long shot from just outside the box makes them more interesting winger than valencia, valencia just wouldn't shoot, he simply just put in drill crosses....

I doubt Ronaldo will join Chelsea.

1) He is not in good terms with Mourinho.
2) His loyalty to the OT folklore will be tainted. Why risk?
3) Chelsea have enough wingers/forwards in his current position
4) Chelsea's style don't suit Ronaldo.
5) He looks ugly in Blue. (just saying tongue.gif )

Rather see Ronaldo go to QPR to win the Championship than seeing him win the Premier League with Chelsea.

Let's face it, I doubt Ronaldo will ever return to bpl.he should stay at madrid for longer period.and I don't think he will return to manchester united as player especially with Sir Alex gone.

We ought not to sell any of our wingers at least for another season because there is no guarantee instant impact from zaha or januzaj play regularly in senior team.

For the record, we should secure nani's contract or else buy big next season as his replacement.young and valencia have a role to play for one more season.both need supports instead repeating the same line.sell em sell em lot.pfft such a fickle prick when you celebrates their good performance and condemn our wingers to seven hells.

QUOTE
Sir Alex eyes one last win

Sir Alex Ferguson is determined to win his final match as Manchester United manager - but admits he will make changes for this weekend’s trip to West Brom in the Barclays Premier League.

The boss is set to retire following Sunday’s match at The Hawthorns, his 1500th in charge of the Reds, and wants to walk away with another three points having already beaten Swansea City on his final outing at Old Trafford last weekend.

However, despite wanting to win, Sir Alex says he will field a “younger” team against the Baggies, particularly in defence where he plans to start blossoming duo Jonny Evans and Phil Jones.

“1500 games – it’s incredible,” the boss told reporters during his final press conference at Carrington on Friday. “West Brom have done fantastically, every team wants to win their last home game and obviously I want to win this one more than last week's even.

“I don't have any injury problems. I'll make a few changes - maybe a few younger players will play.

“Anders (Lindegaard) will be in goal. I don't have Rafael so I need to make a decision about right-back. I want to play Jones and Evans at centre-back - they could be the future. Rio (Ferdinand) and (Nemanja) Vidic will have to have a place on the bench! I'm looking forward to it. It’s going to be great.”

Boss: I feel honoured

Sir Alex Ferguson admits he has been overwhelmed by the reaction to the title win and his retirement as he believes the celebrations even eclipse the Treble-winning season of 1999.

The United boss will take charge of the Reds for the last time in Sunday's clash at West Brom and is sure to enjoy the occasion after receiving a fabulous send-off from the supporters.

Following the lifting of the trophy last weekend, the squad embarked on an open-bus parade around Manchester in front of thousands of fans and had another night to remember during Wednesday's Player of the Year awards at Old Trafford.

"It's been an amazing last week," conceded Sir Alex during his final pre-match press conference. "I have been overwhelmed. Sunday was unbelievable and, as for the parade on Monday, I thought '99 could not be beaten. But, this time, seeing all the people on the scaffolding was incredible. I think it was better than '99.

"The memories are all there in 26 years at United. The whole thing. The day I came here was a privilege. The day I leave, I feel honoured."

Sir Alex will embark on a new life away from managing the most famous club in the world but is already seeing his diary fill up.

"I haven't thought about what life will be like," he admitted. "I'm driven to take on other challenges right away. I've got the LMA meeting on Monday and then I'm going to Newmarket for two days on Tuesday and Wednesday. I'll go on holiday on 4 June and the Derby's before that on 1 June. I'll have my holidays for a month and then the operation and then the season will start. I'll be alright."

Kagawa: So long, Sir Alex

Shinji Kagawa has paid tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson as the boss prepares for his 1,500th and final game in charge of Manchester United at West Brom on Sunday.

Kagawa moved to Old Trafford last summer and, though he spoke no English at first, it wasn’t hard for him to appreciate just why the Reds manager is so revered in the game.

The Japanese midfielder has huge respect for the retiring Scot and his sole regret is that he was only able to play under him for one season.

"He has a magnetic power," Kagawa told ManUtd.jp. "I felt it the first time I met him, from the way he conducts himself and also from working with him on the pitch.

"He communicates well with his players and respects them. As the season went on, I got to communicate with him more, both on football and other subjects. That was important.

"He is a friendly person and his spirit is much younger than his age. I think that’s because of his achievements over the years, and also his personality.

"I wish I could have played much longer under him. What he has achieved for the club is tremendous – he is in a class of his own."

Sunday’s match also marks Sir Alex Ferguson’s 1,500th and final game in charge of United. i wont rule out ronaldo moving back to united at all.. he play for united aint for SAF only.. he said it before he miss manchester, the players etc. his contract only 2 years left. if he decide to leave dont see any reason why man utd wont be one of the option esp for player like his status. not many club out there can match his status etc. and dont forget he is a nike man like united.

yup hope all our winger stay as we gonna hv new manager now.. who know wht changes he can make or maybe he can revive valencia, nani, young back to their best.

i think its more plausible to us to buy Song than Fabregas.. Song was underused in Barca. often deployed as a defender. they probably buy a defender or 2 this summer. Puyol, Abidal in his twilight years, spending nursing their injuries than actually play. Song is initially a DM, but Barca is well stock in that department.

last night failure (red card and cup final defeat) will spark media talks about Ronaldo leaving. Mourinho seem dead certain to leave..

it'll be heck of the summer. Ronaldo, Bale, Fabregas, talks throwing around etc.. but i reckon we'll end up 2 or 3 low key signing. everybody will under estimate us again, then we'll win the league, again.. i hope so..

Rio Ferdinand will sign a one-year extension to his contract at Manchester United this week.

The deal - approved by incoming manager David Moyes - ends any doubts over the future of the 34-year-old, who would have been out of contract next month.

Ferdinand announced his retirement from international football on Wednesday, a move which he hopes will allow him to prolong his career at Old Trafford.

The central defender won his sixth Premier League title this season.

Earlier this month, retiring Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said Ferdinand had had his best season for the club and would be offered a new deal.

The defender has made 33 appearances for United this campaign, including 27 in the Premier League, more than any of the club's other centre-backs.

His contribution to Manchester United's Premier League title success saw him voted into the Professional Footballers' Association's team of the year by his peers.

The former West Ham United and Leeds United defender, who was capped 81 times by England, joined United in July 2002 for £30m, making him the world's most expensive defender.

He has made 431 appearances for United, with a Champions League triumph and two League Cup wins to add to his six Premier League titles.

Ops for Smalling and Powell

Chris Smalling and Nick Powell have both undergone operations but are expected to return for pre-season training with Manchester United.

Reds defender Smalling was on crutches during the lifting of the Barclays Premier League trophy after the win against Swansea while Powell has been missing from action at both senior and Under-21 level, despite Warren Joyce's side progressing to Monday's league final against Tottenham at Old Trafford.

"They are not long-term injuries," Sir Alex informed MUTV. "They will be ready for pre-season and that's the important thing. It's why we do these things.

"Chris had problems with his foot and had an operation on it. It'll be resolved and he'll be back for pre-season.

"Young Nick had a small operation to relieve a problem he had and he'll also be available for pre-season training. I knew I was not going to use them for the last part of the season, having won the league, so I think it was important to get the operations done."

QUOTE
Boss: Moyes will have own ideas

Sir Alex Ferguson says David Moyes is inheriting a great squad at Old Trafford but insists he will have his own ideas about players he’d like to add to the group.

Moyes will officially take over the managerial reigns on 1 July – although Sir Alex expects the new boss to pop into Carrington before that – after signing a six-year deal with the club.

Sir Alex says Moyes will quickly understand the size of the club in terms of its global appeal, but maintains that his primary focus will always be on getting the best out of the team.

“David will soon realise the enormity of this club - the global brand and the number of sponsors we’ve got and things like that, although I think he realises that already,” the boss told reporters on Friday. “He just has to fit into that. I don’t think that will be an issue and the most important thing is the team. The priority is the football team. Without the football team they wouldn’t have all the sponsorships. Everyone knows that here, there is no doubt about that.

“He’s got a good squad of players and he’ll want to add players to that himself I’m sure. He’ll have his own ideas which is good. He’ll be fine.”

Sir Alex yet again reiterated that Moyes was the overriding choice to take over at the Old Trafford helm.

“People used to say to me ‘do you think he will be a manager or he will manage United one day?’ about players who are not even in the job now. Football is that kind of ndustry,” he explained.

“I heard an amazing statistic that Brendan Rodgers hasn’t been in the job at Liverpool at year yet and he’s still the 30th longest serving manager in Britain. That is amazing. That’s the industry you’re talking about.

“When you’re assessing the job here you have to get somebody who has the longevity and the experience over a long period of time to manage this club. And that’s why David was above everyone else.”

Asked if he expects Moyes to enjoy a lengthy stay at United, Sir Alex added: “I hope so. It’s the one club you could do that at. They’ve shown great loyalty to their managers.”

He will certainly have some highly experienced characters to call upon for any advice with Sir Alex confirming that Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt will play an important role at the club going forward.

“That was already established a while ago,” he revealed. “The planning has been in place for a long time to have Scholes, Giggs and Nicky Butt as part of the coaching structure here.”

Boss eyes one last win

No Rafael/Smalling at RB while Jones will partner Evans at CB. Valencia to deputise as RB again? hmm.gif

Chelsea want Manchester United to name their price for Wayne Rooney.

Sunday Mirror Sport can reveal Chelsea are refusing to be put off by United’s public insistence Rooney will not be sold.

Sources close to Chelsea claim Roman Abramovich would be prepared to splash out over £30million for Rooney and match his £250,000-a-week United salary. It is believed Abramovich is determined not to be outbid by Paris Saint-Germain for Rooney and will blow any interest from Arsenal out of the water.

New United manager David Moyes has made Rooney’s future his top priority and will soon speak to the 27-year-old at Old Trafford.

Those talks may well decide whether or not Abramovich gets his man. Jose Mourinho is expected to return to the Blues for a second spell as manager and the Portuguese is a big fan of Rooney.

A source told Sunday Mirror Sport: “Chelsea want to make sure that if Wayne leaves United, there is only one place he will go.

“They are prepared to spend, big, big money on Rooney and they have told United that.

“Mourinho would love to manage Rooney. He thinks he can get him back to his best and use him in a similar way to how Didier Drogba operated for Chelsea.”

Looks like we did not break the highest scoring draw record sad.gif

Highest scoring draw: 6–6, joint record:
Leicester City 6–6 Arsenal (First Division, 21 April 1930)[15]
Charlton Athletic 6–6 Middlesbrough (Second Division, 22 October 1960)[16]

OMG, Lindergaard is a big joke! If I can recall correctly, he did not make a single save in the whole match except for picking up loose balls. All shots on target either went in or were blocked by other players. Luckily the match has no bearings on the outcome of the Premier League but all the same he single-handedly managed to deny Sir Alex Ferguson a win in his last game in charge.

19/5/13: Marouane Fellani has hinted that he could be leaving and indicated that David Moyes feels his best position is in a deep-lying midfield role rather than up front. The Sunday Mirror quotes the Belgian as saying: ""I only want to go to a club where the manager really wants me. In 2008, Everton did everything to convince me, especially David Moyes. He made me the player I am now. I’m happy with my season, although I didn’t play in my best position. I’m not a number 10. David Moyes predicts my future as a defensive midfielder, but due to a lack of offensive power, he plays me up front. In the future I want to play as a six or an eight. From there, I can create danger and score goals."

links with felliani emerging? Rooney heading off too. If he's going, just go to PSG instead of chelski and arsenal tongue.gif no competition or hard time for fans.

Felliani isn't much of a creative midfielder, more of AM for me, so don't know if he fits.

about the defend...its been like that for pass 2-3 season that we keep bocor n not consistent...hopefully moyes gonna revitalise it cos he is a defender n play with solid defensive foundation...he will make the striker n midfielder work harder n protect the back 4...even when DDG arrive last 2 season...he is up on his own most of the time...he didnt get the protection he shud get hence cost him all the taunt early on...but he stood up n face it n perform like no other that make him matured n progressing rapidly...

just my 2inch...

SAF always make sure we r tight at the back...even if we grind for 1-0 result...its ensure 3 points n consistency to build on for the title...but lately its hard to keep it tight at the back cos opponent team are more dangerous on counter attack n the quality of attacker is high in EPL...look at benteke, lukaku, michu, hell lot of them will score if given half chances...hence we need to bulk up the defensive duty...it can be seen quite clearly since vida is out injured last 2 season n we never find the stability that we used to hav...since then he is not the same person cos out for too long...but his experience is needed for the understudy to learn n cope with the level of his defensive ability...

criticism to Lindegaard is unfair, defenders were really poor, and Carrick was poor too, nothing much AL could do. We didn't rotate GK much this season, that's why AL's performance was nothing sort of surprise given his very limited playtime.

such a shame the lads couldn't give final win for SAF. I kept on waiting for Adnan to play

He didn't unfortunately, but was on the bench at westbrom game. Adnan is left footer that can plays midfield and drift to the wing.... something like giggs but he play at the right wing.. his long passing quite amazing.

Yeah, heard a lot about him. There's a number of guys then should be good enough to make the jump. IMO moyes should take it lightly in the summer transfer window and instead, make room for this guys. Zaha's coming in as well.

but this bale pun pelik. lack of ambition ke still want to stay at spurs? not premier league genuine title contender, ucl qualification stage also cannot get in. being a star player in a top 7-ish team is self satisfying enough? ppl no need to compare him to cr7 la messi la if he himself dont wanna prove himself in the bigger stage.

ya, me too, he should step out of the box, he stays in it too comfortably already. He is 24, I think it's time for him to get a new challenge and prove to the world that he can be one of the greatest player on earth alongside CR and Messi. If he don't leave for a bigger club, when would he? he is so energetic now at his age, he single handily win games for Spurs....

bale is happy there.. one of the reason he looks amazing there coz of the free role been given to him.. he's only 24 one more season at spurs wont make much different. i think its good he stay there for now. spurs does got quality there.. 1-2 good signing esp a no.9 and more squad depth.. i dont see no reason why they cant challenge for a title

Spurs always sell us at premium price (Carrick, Berbatov). we might bid, but will stop at 40mil and bigger bids will coming in..

i more interested with Sandro. shame he injured half of this season.

DM, pls buy us anyone of Cabaye, Fellaini, Song, Modric.. ill be happy enough.. i heard DM is also an admirer of Moutinho. with bigger budget and bigger club reputation to works with, he might have a chance to pursue the Portuguese CM..

Bale, Ronaldo, Fabregas IMO just a paper talks..

Lol Jurgen Klopp's comments on Kagawa

"My heart breaks. Really, I have tears in my eyes. Central midfield is Shinji's best role. He's an offensive midfielder with one of the best noses for goal I ever saw.

"But for most Japanese people it means more to play for Man United than Dortmund. We cried for 20 minutes, in each others' arms, when he left."

DM really need to fully utilize Kagawa next season in central role.. its no coincidence dortmund won the league when kagawa was playing regularly behind the strikers.

Kagawa needs to be in the middle, central mid. He'll spark next season, I am confident tongue.gif

On the other hand, I think our strikers are good. Hernandez-RVP or RVP-Rooney. No need for another. Just midfield and defense needs some shake up

So touching....

4-2-3-1? or 4-4-1-1?

it'll be hard on the strikers sad.gif we have too many. Chica needs time to grow, welback too, RVP taking all,and rooney is going bye bye.

i really like Kagawa, he's a lot on the pounce, and really gets in the box or tries to score.

will be interesting to see how DM plays him. 442 along side carrick? smile.gif

He should be playing alongside Carrick or behind a striker. It's funny how Klopp still cared about him, shows you what a boss Klopp is, caring about other players even after he left his club.

I feel that Kagawa was kinda ehhh this season, well I know he got injured half way but the second half he showed some sparks when he was played in the hole. On the left? Dunno didnt watch.

4-2-3-1 will be nice. chica wont be main striker with RVP around , so unfortunately DM gotta use him occasionally (there are bound to be games where we need to play 4-4-2) or from the bench =/ and that kid can play as attacking winger, so no issues.

So if we dont get bale, should be like this :

RVP
Nani + Kagawa + anderson
Carrick + cleverly

i love Ando's drive from the centre.. biggrin.gif and he's more suited as one of the 3 attacking midfielders, if we play narrower. if play wider, then probably have to throw in valencia/young

by the way, now valencia's style is run a few metres, step on ball, run a few more metres/pass back.. shakehead.gif hope he gets back on form next season laugh.gif

Premier League: Manchester United top TV earners with record £60.8million

Champions Manchester United earned a record £60.8million in Premier League TV money after winning the title this season.

The Premier League distributes its TV money in a way that sees half of the total cash from the domestic deals divided equally between the member clubs, and all of the overseas broadcasting income also split equally.

A further 25% of domestic TV income is split as merit money depending where each club finishes in the final league table, and the final 25% paid in 'facility fees' for each time a club's matches are shown on television in the UK.

For that reason, Arsenal and Tottenham both earned more than Chelsea despite finishing below their capital rivals in the table because both the north London sides appeared in more live TV games.

Under the 2010-13 deal, which expired this season, each club received a £13.8million equal share each season plus £18.9million from overseas rights.

Clubs were further guaranteed a minimum of £5.78million for live TV and highlights appearances.

Manchester United earned the most from these facility fees, totalling £12.9million from 25 live appearances.

The three clubs relegated from the top flight earned the least amount, with Wigan Athletic getting £40.8m, Reading £40m and Queens Park Rangers £39.8m.

Some £88million was paid out in parachute payments to clubs relegated over the last three seasons.

TV revenue totals:

Man Utd £60.8m, Man City £58.1m, Arsenal £57.1m, Tottenham £55.8m, Chelsea £55m, Liverpool £54.8m, Everton £51.7m, West Ham £48.7m, West Brom £48.3m, Swansea £47.6m, Norwich £46.1m, Fulham £45.3m, Newcastle £45.1m, Aston Villa £44.9m, Stoke £44.5m, Southampton £43.8m, Sunderland £43.4m, Wigan £40.8m, Reading £40m, QPR £39.8m.

Sorry but then that's just silly. Everyone looks good on Youtube, even Bebe. Of course from Youtube videos, Strootman looks better than Fellaini. In full games you can see the mistakes players make while in Youtube videos, it's only their highlights. To base that 1 player is better than the other purely based on Youtube (or FM attributes), is plain out silly.

Which is why I also asked the person who spoke about our youth players. If we've seen them play in full matches and came to a conclusion then great! I would also like to watch them. But if it's purely based on Youtube then sweat.gif

United's €18 million Thiago bid

QUOTE
Manchester United is looking to contract Thiago Alcantara for next season. It will not even have to enter into negotiations with Barcelona if it stumps up a figure of €18 million, a proposal under serious consideration.

That is the total for the player's current buy-out clause. Thiago renewed his contract two seasons ago when his release fee was set at €90 million. This amount was reduced, however, to €18 million if he did not play a fixed number of games. And that is exactly what has happened.

The player's salary should also not present a problem for his departure. The midfielder currently earns €1.8 million a season, a sum which could easily be topped by a number of European clubs.

Bayern Munich would be another option. Guardiola was always one of his supporters when at Barcelona. In fact it was Pep who backed the payment of his salary, breaking from the general footballing norm that players of his age who moved up to the first team received between €1 million to €1.5 million.

Thiago has not been happy with the way this season has gone for him, a factor that could hasten his exit. Vilanova has not used him very much, at least, not as much as the player wanted. He ranks sixteenth in terms of minutes played throughout the season.

Robin retains Golden Boot

Robin van Persie has won the Barclays Golden Boot for the second season in a row after scoring 26 Premier League goals for Manchester United in 2012/13.

The Dutch striker finished above Liverpool's Luis Suarez (23 goals) and Tottenham's Gareth Bale (21 goals) in his maiden campaign at Old Trafford to help Sir Alex's side win a 20th title.

Van Persie netted with his first shot in the red shirt in August's 3-2 home win over Fulham and his haul included several other memorable goals, including his stunning volley in the title-clinching win over Aston Villa.

The left-foot strike, following a 40-yard pass from Wayne Rooney, completed his hat-trick and was unsurprisingly voted United's Goal of the Season last week.

Robin received the Barclays Golden Boot trophy after the 5-5 draw at West Brom and will be given £30,000 by Barclays to donate to a charity of his choice.

He also won the award last season after bagging 30 goals for Arsenal, three more than Rooney managed for the Reds.

don't think he is a fit for united.
too light weight, he is a winger/striker like CR7, unless he bulk up he ain't gonna survive in BPL.

falcao or lewan would fit the bill.

Decent player. Would prefer sergio busquets anytime. Class act, can play Defensive Mid or Centre back when needed, something like Phil Jones( the other way around) but better.

really? i dont think so.. how many Barca games do u watched last 2 seasons?

IMO he is more Xavi/Iniesta/Fabregas type. naturally a CM that could play AM. certainly not Busquets type of player.

he was (among) Guardiola golden boy. played lesser this season. i think at this moment he is thinking to join Guardiola and Bayern. but Bayern also have strong midfielders core, as good as Barca. in World Cup year, i dont think he is willing to that risk (to join Bayern).

joining United also a less appeal, but to competition with the likes of Cleverley /Anderson/Powell/Giggs/Carrick, i think Thiago have a great prospect to play as a regular starter for United.

i expect him to sign a better deal with Barca. but this rumour sound better than Fellaini et al.

Well, that's your opinion that you prefer him over Busquets. Nothing wrong with another fan preferring Busquets over him. They are both diff type of players, Busquets being more a holding midfielder while is Thiago more attack minded. I have not watched any Thiago play but I think Busquets is a very very good player. Disciplined and a good reader of the game. He is as important as Xavi/Iniesta to Barca's midfield. His presence there allows them the freedom to move forward.

First and foremost. I don't like Barca. I don't watch their games. Secondly, I support Spain, so if watching the Spain team's entire Euro/World Cup campaign where Busquets operates as a holding midfielder or sometimes a defender counts, yeah. And do not question my views on Busquest, does the number of games you watched makes you a better critic than others? And since when watching the number of games allows you to be judgmental over other's views? For your information, Busquest and Tiago are two different players. What happened to your past 2 seasons statement? You claimed to be well knowledgeable but cannot tell the difference between the two players? Come on.

And, it's HAVE YOU WATCHED. Not DO YOU WATCHED.

IMO, Utd should buy another midfielder this summer, who it is, depend on what formation / tactics DM going to deploy.
Kagawa is the one that I prefer in the playmaker role in the centre / behind RVP. I've never liked Kagawa playing on the wings. Just like what Klopp said. Sad indeed to see him in that position..

Carrick should be in front of the back four and deployed as the deep laying playmaker / CM.
I know..playing too much FM2013.. laugh.gif

Are Utd going to use wingers under DM?
Or should he use wingless formation?

Who should partner RVP or is he going to be the only stiker in this formation?

Imagine Bale and CR7 in this team... sweat.gif £100 millions++

Roytomas punya formation was DM's feveret formation few years back, which saw thomas gravesen shone whole season.

Formation doesnt matter to me. What matter is who is going out/in OT when comes 1jul. Most forums saying ando + nani + roon are most likely.

Ferdinand agrees new deal

Rio Ferdinand has signed a new one-year contract, in a deal that will see the defender complete his 12th season as a first team player.

The centre-back has made 432 appearances since his debut in 2002 and won his sixth Barclays Premier League medal with the club this season.

David Moyes said: “It is clear for everyone to see that Rio has had one of his best seasons with the club and I think even from the outside you can see what a big character Rio is around the dressing room, so I am delighted he has signed a new contract. I am looking forward to working with him.”

Rio Ferdinand said: “I am delighted to have signed a new contract. Who wouldn’t want to play in this fantastic team in front of 76,000 fans each week? It has been an incredible journey and I am glad it will continue. I can now fully concentrate on my club career which has worked well for me over the past few years.”

“This is a great team to be part of and we are now moving into a new era with the club which is very exciting. I have met with David I am really looking forward to working with him and winning many more trophies with this great club."

Kagawa roots for Dortmund

Shinji Kagawa admits he has been "inspired" by his former team Borussia Dortmund’s run to the Champions League final this season.

Dortmund take on Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich, who regained the German title at their expense last month, at Wembley on Saturday evening.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have won plenty of admirers for their pressing, high-tempo game and Japanese star Shinji, who played for them for two seasons between 2010 and 2012, hopes they'll win the European Cup for a second time this weekend.

"I want to play better in the Champions League next season because I’ve been inspired to see Dortmund make it to the final," Kagawa told ManUtd.jp recently. "I was encouraged to know there is a chance for me to be on the big stage with United.

"I’ve followed how they are doing and have kept in touch with some of the players. Each time they progressed in the Champions League, I sent them a text to say congratulations."

Bayern won the league this season with six games to spare, a record in Germany’s top flight, but have failed to win any of their last six league encounters with Dortmund.

"Bayern will find it hard against Dortmund as they haven’t beaten them in the league for three seasons," added Kagawa, who will be watching on TV while on international duty.

"Dortmund will play hard without being over-confident. I expect it will be an exciting match and I hope Dortmund will be European champions."

Scholes joins Legends

Just weeks after retiring, Paul Scholes will return to Old Trafford to play in the Red Heart United legends match with Real Madrid at the request of team manager Bryan Robson.

Scholes will join a host of former team-mates including Andy Cole, Jaap Stam and Edwin van der Sar to face the Spanish giants, who will include the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo and Claude Makelele among their ranks.

Having recruited Scholes, who bowed out of football after last weekend's 5-5 draw at West Brom, Robson relished the prospect of seeing the United hero play again: “I think Scholsey will love not just being on the pitch with Real Madrid, but also with Zinedine Zidane.

“In the past he has said that Scholsey was the best midfield player in the world, so it will be nice for Paul to play against him again and the rest of the Real Madrid players. We all still love participating in the game and playing for charity is something players enjoy doing.”

Real Madrid travel to Old Trafford hoping to defend a 3-2 victory claimed in the first leg at the Bernabeu last year. And although the match is being played in aid of the MU Foundation, Scholes is keen to turn the deficit around.

“It would be great to win the game,” Paul explained. “But there are some true greats in their team; players who have won World Cups and European Championships.”

“The skill, dedication and passion it takes to be the best in the world is something you never lose. It may be for charity, but it’s going to be a very tough game.”

That sentiment is echoed by the great Zidane, who is only too aware of Scholes' abilties having once described him as 'the complete footballer': “He’s almost untouchable in what he does,” Zizou said.

“I never tire of watching him play. You rarely come across the complete footballer, but Scholes is as close to it as you can get. One of my regrets is that the opportunity to play alongside him never presented itself during my career.”

The Red Heart United legends match will be pre-empted by an opening ceremony in which JLS, Amelia Lily and Tinchy Stryder will all perform a selection of hits, offering a fantastic day out for the whole family.

In keeping with the two clubs’ origins, fans can also try their hand at various Spanish and British themed games whilst sampling traditional cuisine from both nations.

All proceeds from Red Heart United will go to the Manchester United Foundation and will help to fund projects that help young people in disadvantaged areas of Greater Manchester. Tickets are on sale now and are available by visiting www.manutd.com/legendsareback or calling 0161 868 8000 and selecting option 9.

No approach from PSG for Rooney as wantaway United striker eyes Old Trafford escape route

QUOTE
Paris Saint-Germain have yet to make any contact with Manchester United or Wayne Rooney’s representatives with the £40million-rated striker's future remaining in the balance.
Reports in France on Wednesday suggested that talks have already begun and Rooney was ‘very interested’ in joining Qatari-owned PSG.
It was followed by claims that the England international is being offered a four-year deal worth nearly £300,000-a-week after tax to join the French champions this summer.
However, it is understood that no approach has yet been made to United or the player with Rooney discontented with life at Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old is still waiting to speak with new manager David Moyes about his plans having fallen out of favour with Sir Alex Ferguson.
Rooney wants assurances over his role in the team after he being asked to play in midfield at times this season.
He was axed for the pivotal Champions League tie against Real Madrid and then substituted on a number of occasions as his relationship with Ferguson deteriorated.
With two years left on his contract, United are under pressure to tie Rooney to a new deal this summer or sell him.
However, the feeling is that the newly-crowned Premier League champions will find it difficult to keep the striker after he asked to leave the club for the second time.
It is possible that Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City will offer Rooney an escape route in the Premier League. Otherwise, the options could be limited to France.
PSG and Monaco could both comfortably afford to match his current £250,000-a-week salary.
According to the reports, PSG are ready to tempt Rooney with a contract worth £15m-a-year after tax – the same deal they gave Zlatan Ibrahimovic when he moved from AC Milan last summer.
Whether Rooney wants to uproot his family from their Cheshire home and move abroad after wife Coleen gave birth to their second child this week is another matter, however.
With United looking to sign a new striker this summer – Moyes’ other priorities are a centre-back and central midfielder – Rooney and his representatives know they will have to make a decision sooner rather than later.
Whether that takes him to Paris remains to be seen.

Manchester United cut interest bill to boost their finances

Manchester United have slashed their interest payments with a new refinancing package boosting their finances.

Dealing though Bank Of America, the Premier League champions have cut their interest bill by £10million a year having have refinanced £177.78m of outstanding sterling bonds, on which they are currently paying a rate of 8.75%.

In addition they have refinanced approximately £17m of dollar bonds on which they are currently paying 8.375%.

United's present debt is £370million, the sum remaining from a highly leveraged takeover by the Glazer family in 2005.

The new loan from June 24 will have an estimated starting interest rate of around 2.78%. Interest payments should come down from around £31m to £21m per year United revealed in a statement.

Despite dire warnings of United's financial position since that time, the Old Trafford outfit have won five Premier League titles and played in three Champions League finals.

Majid Ishaq, managing director of financial advisory group Rothschild, said: "It shows that the infrastructure is in place and the decision they made on the managerial front is viewed as, not negative, but positive.

"They are in a position today where they have gone back to the market to refinance that particular part of the financing on very attractive terms because they have really delivered, and grown the underlying revenue and profitability."

United said earlier this month it is on course to generate more than £350m this season after earning a record £91.7m in the three months to March 31. Net profit more than trebled year-on-year to £3.6m in the third quarter.

"United is unique in that they have a great historic brand, and they have managed to derive value from that history and heritage in a very commercial way," said Ishaq, a football finance expert. "That's a big positive for investors."

With their commercial income rising rapidly, it seems United continue to remain one of the sport's heavyweights, shown last summer when they splashed out £24m on striker Robin van Persie.

It is believed new manager David Moyes will not be short of funds to spend should he wish ahead of the new season.

Interesting but I disagree with some. Giving Powell a 6 while he hasn't done anything is a little premature. Schmeichel should be an easy 10. My main 2 gripes.

Manchester United today confirmed the departure of assistant manager Mike Phelan and goalkeeping coach Eric Steele.

David Moyes, who takes over as United boss on 1 July, said: "I would like to put on record the club's thanks for everything Mike and Eric have done. I will be looking to appoint my own members of coaching staff at some point in the future, however, I’d like to take this opportunity to give them both our best wishes for their future careers."

Executive Vice Chairman Ed Woodward said: "I'd like to thank Eric and Mick for the enormous contributions they have made to the success of Manchester United in their time here. Their professionalism, ability and diligence have been a credit to them. They are top class football men and everyone here wishes them well for long and successful careers in the game."

Mike Phelan, a former United player, was promoted by Sir Alex Ferguson to the role of assistant manager in 2008, having served the club as a first-team coach since 2001.

Eric Steele, joined the club in 2008 as first-team goalkeeping coach to fill the void left by Tony Coton who had been forced to retire due to injury.
