I don't mind not having it or having it. It doesn't make a difference to me. My main problem is apparently turning with the mouse. That's an instant nausea to me. The Rift is a godsend for cockpit games (flight sim, car driving etc) but for FPSes, every time I turn it induces a lot of nausea for me. Using a Hydra might help, but I haven't tried that yet. I might also get used to it.
So far the resolution and the FOV are the problem. The lack of positional tracking doesn't affect me too badly interestingly, but after 2 days, the resolution and FOV is still not satisfactory. I'll still wait until I've tested the Rift for 7 days before giving it my final thoughts. The scale is great, but it's limited by the FOV.
The terrible resolution stops me from getting super immersed in it, I would get distracted by the lag of details as I try to focus on a detailed object, only to end up focusing on the gridded screen instead. Still, they say this will all be gone after a week or two, so I'll say that these are not my final opinions, just my current impressions.
This is coming from someone who uses a 2560x1440 27" S-IPS daily, so that might have contributed to my excessive ramblings on resolution. Once you go with resolutions as high as mine, you don't want to go back down. Cymatic Bruce was enthusiastic sure, but he was using a puny laptop with low resolution (no disrespect). I'd like to say for those looking forward to this tech - wait for the consumer version, even if you have wads of cash lying around. The devkit will not satisfy people with a decent rig like mine. Proton Pulse is absolutely fun with the Rift though.
my impression is almost same as yours. I am also coming from 1440p 27" IPS. catleap 2b 100hz
I didnt try too much games yet becoz I really didnt have the time
I tried 1) sixense tuscany demo 2) roller coster 3) team-fortress 2 4) simple racing car demo and several small demos which I downloaded in 1 bundle pack from forum
1) tuscany was nice, but exactly 2 main problems mentioned by you.
---i) instant nausea when turning the view by external device, either it is mouse or razer hydra, as long as it is not your head
---ii) resolution problem, the view near to your eye was still ok. BUT the far view was really blur.
2) roller coaster was not bad too. But I have some minor problem with the view keep rotating. (have to use some minor hack)
3) team fortress 2, not playable due to some problem. I already execute the exe with -vr mode, but the split screen is buggy. No time to troubleshoot that.
4) simple racing car demo - this is really good because I don't feel much nausea even though I am driving fast.
--BUT the low resolution make the far view really blur, it is hard to drive fast because of this.
5) several small demos - nothing much to comment.
about your dissatisfaction about the FOV. The first time I put on Rift, I didn't feel and appreciate the wide FOV.
I only noticed about the low resolution and screen door effect. and I immediately disappointed.
But when I put back on my Hmz-T2, then I start appreciating the wide FOV of oculus rift.
For playing game or VR stuff, it is always better to have a wide FOV rather than a big flat screen with black bars infront of you.
But for movie stuff, big flat screen with black surrounding is better because you feels like you are in a cinema ALONE.
another 2 problems for me:
1) seems like there is some lag when turning my head around.
2) I saw some raster scan line effect (not sure what it is called). It is some line scanning effect that you see in very very old TV.

extra questions:
1) how to edit topic title and topic descriptions?
2) how to properly add youtube video? I added video but it won't show lol
wanted to add more information in the front page.
