Hi, can anyone recommend me a good tire for my BMW E60? Currently using stock RFT. If I opt for non-RFT, how much would I sacrifice in terms of handling? I dont do drifting or use my car in the circuit, just normal day to day driving.

My current spec: 225 50 17

Any good workshop to recommend? I live in KL.

Thanks.

If you don't mind about 45 profile than can be consider for Goodyear Eagle F1, A2 is the better tyre.

if you don't mind lower treadwear rating (160-180), maybe slightly lesser wet performance (however see this video: http://www.tirerack.com/videos/index.jsp?video=39 and full test report: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testDi...y.jsp?ttid=118), slightly noiser than conventional tires, and just slightly more expensive than your budget of 400/piece, wanna give Yokohama ad08r a shot? rolleyes.gif

(can get 225/45/17 instead since no 50 profile for 225 and 17")

RFT has very stiff sidewall, so the comfort is not very good but handling and steering response should be sharper. For daily drive, I'd not use RFT especially on roads which are not that smooth since the ride quality suffers. I'd just go for a good normal tire, much cheaper too.
As for the tire brand, it all depends on how much you want to spend. I think an already well proven very good and safe choice is the Michelin PS3 and it has your size. It's comfortable, quiet, very good grip in the dry and wet (tread wear 320, traction AA). If you want much cheaper one but still offers good performance (good value for money), you can try GT Radial Champiro HPY (tread wear 300, traction AA) which also have your size. A well known forumers in Zerotohundred already uses this on his turbo car and gave good recommendation on it (he said the only downside is the sidewall a bit stiff but considering you're already used to RFT, this should not be a problem I think).

225/45 has thinner sidewall by 1.1cm compared to 225/50, so your ride height will then drop by the same amount, the ride comfort will be noticeably stiffer/less comfortable, and your meter reading will be less accurate since the overall diameter is smaller by 2.2cm (speedometer will show higher speed than actual, and odometer will show higher distance traveled than actual).

I would also recommend Goodyear Eagle F1 Directional 5, it's very cheap especially for sizes below 18", but you'll have to bear with the noise as it's a directional tread.

Yes, I'm using that tire now! Well it's not very cheap to me, for similar class the GT Radial Champiro HPY is much cheaper. But I agree with the rest, it's pretty good performance in the dry/wet and pretty good ride comfort too, but a bit noisy.

I'm already used to the noisy as hell GSD3 lol. Needless to say I was amazed by the wet performance of it. D5 is supposedly an improved/updated D3, so I trust Goodyear to make it better than D3.

I was originally going for the D5 when I upgraded my rims to 18".
RM590 per piece but then my friend's tyre workshop is having a promotion for Nitto tyres that are made in Japan, at a much cheaper price. So I decided to go for the Nitto Neogen for RM550 per piece lol

Bridgestone RE-002 or Toyo T1S is decent for your ride. Both has marginally offer better ride 'feel' compare to your current RFT.
Even the likes of PS3 or C.drive will be just fine on daily ride. Stick with your current size. Profile 45 will leave a noticeable gap and maybe, speedo recalibration.
There are a lot of tyres shop in Ampang Spectrum area. But my pick will be the Tyre shop in Pandan Indah(corner) located opposite the CIMB Bank
which can be seen from the main road.

First is....stick to the 225 50 17 size......45 series are just problems for our Malaysia roads that filled with potholes. Tires will get easily damage...

If you want to budget on tire cost, why not hunt for some used tires? Good used tire shops hand pick the ones they know is good, all 85% above threads....no sidewall damage. Its no shame to fit used tires...I've seen many Premium cars fitting them. Some ppl dun see the point of fixing a RM700 tire.....and good used tires are of course much better than bold tires
Just do a search for your size in Mudah.my.....or go to Used tire shops...do some hunting and get great bargain premium tires.
