QUOTE(Volkswagen2 @ May 12 2014, 11:21 AM) The partner complained my colognes too strong and pungent (Davidoff Hotwater, Cerutti). Any suggestions on a mild cologne? One that has a milder scent? Is Davidoff Coolwater mild? What about Ralph Lauren? Any tips appreciated. ps. i got a recommendation of Bvalgari Pour Homme as having a mild scent. mild can be low sillage or aquatic. you can try to spray a little less than usual to see if you still get the same complaint. cool water is ok, ralph lauren some of them can be strong. you can try ysl l'homme for mild.

Sample of the day:
Left wrist: Breath of God.
inspired by Tibet, This is a very interesting scent. It opens up with very earthy and rooty vetiver and mint, and then vanilla joins in. It stays close to the skin. The mint makes it smell a bit like tiger balm tho....
Right wrist: Dior Vetiver Green grapefruit. No coffee or vetiver yet and its already 30mins....

Samples of the day
Left Wrist: Dior Jules
Another 'rare' scent, Jules is the granddaddy to Bleu de Chanel and Rive Gauche. In a sense that Jules smells like them both, except more refined. It's basically a soapy leather scent, but done in a classy way.
Top Notes Galbanum
Middle Notes Black Pepper
Base Notes Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Russian Leather
Right Wrist: Bal a Versalies Another legendary classic, Bal a Versalies attempts to conjure how a ball at the french court would have smelled like: powder and lots of it. The drydown is basically amber + civet with a hint of rose, ylang, lily and jasmine, but mainly sweet amber. It's also one of the few scents with tolu balsam in it.
Bal a Versailles has notes of rosemary, orange blossoms, Cassia, Jasmine, Rose, Neroli, Bergamot, Bulgarian Rose, Lemon, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Lilac, Orris Root, Vetiver, Yiang-Yiang, Lily, Tolu Balsam, musk, Benjoin, Civet, Vanilla, Cedar, Resins
Apparently this is also Michael Jackson's signature scent.

QUOTE(Al Puccino @ Jun 7 2014, 12:38 PM) Thanks. Finally a reply. Is it trusted? never visit strawberry.net before I recently bought Eau de Guerlain from there and it was delivered to me within a week. For perfumes they will charge 10% of the perfume's price as the shipping fee. Not too bad

QUOTE(adli78 @ Jun 10 2014, 03:39 PM) Hi all. I couldn't say how I'm amazed with all the sifus on perfume in here. Learnt many new things here. Thank you all! By the way, I would like to know your opinion on fragrance oil a.k.a perfume oil a.k.a essential oil. Do you guys ever ventured into that and what say you? Thanks in advance! okay we have to be a bit careful here. essential oils and fragrance oils are different. essential oils are extracted from plants and are pure and very expensive. fragrance oils are made of chemicals and are very cheap, and usually comes with a label that tells you to keep it away from skin. also, fragrance oils dont smell like the real thing but they sometimes smell a bit different from the actual ingredient that they are representing i.e their sandalwood oil smells nothing like real sandalwood. Thats why you get apple and strawberry fragrance oil but no essential oil for those. The danger is that if you use fragrance oils, they may contain ingredients that trigger allergies or burns if left on the skin on a long period of time. Perfume oils are different as they are created to be used on skin and therefore safe. a very easy way to tell if the shop is selling fragrance oils or essential oils is that fragrance oils will have the same price for different types of scent while essential oils will be priced differently in accordance with how hard is it to extract its essence and the rarity of the ingredient. You can get expensive ones that are 100% pure from some metrojaya outlets. Forgot the brand name but their most expensive oil is jasmine which costs rm500++ for 10ml. Their sandalwood is 200+ while a few other herbs just a mere rm50

QUOTE(izam7 @ Jun 11 2014, 09:44 AM) Guys, I have the opportunity to grab Guerlain SDV 75ml at very attractive price (EU160 @ ~RM700) through my counterpart in France. Here I'm offering about 30ml for the split. RM10/ml and the minimum order is 10ml. No charges will be taken for the decants bottle and poslaju Honestly I didn't make any profit here. Just want to share this opportunity with my fellow perfume lover Anyone interested, kindly pm me. I plan to close the offer by this week. If you can get Dior Vetiver or Iris Ganache, lemme know

QUOTE(adli78 @ Jun 11 2014, 11:42 AM) Owh.. btw, those designer perfume at retail store uses essential oil or fragance oil for the mixture in their perfume? Perfumes that are original (and expensive) uses a mixture of synthetic and natural because there is no chemical that can replace entirely a natural ingredient which is composed of hundreds of different compounds. A very simple example would be that vanilin may smell like vanilla, yet when compared to actual vanilla essence, there is much difference in terms of the taste and smell. Even if chemicals are used, they are regulated and wont cause allergies as these big companies have their reputation at stake, so they wont put in weird ingredients in. At this day and age all natural perfumes are super expensive, you can try http://www.ayalamoriel.com/ and http://www.profumo.it/perfume/home_english.htm

QUOTE(adli78 @ Jun 12 2014, 11:53 AM) Tq Joey-kun. I wonder why perfumes are synonim with France. We in Malaysia have lots of natural resources, but no homemade quality perfumes? 1) we're not creative. also lack of interest. 2) we're not perfume concious. in the US and europe ppl will comment on your perfume if they smell nice or they will comment also if you dont wear any. here in malaysia we dont give a shit. 3) kedekut. most companies dont want to make their own original perfume. 4) We *dont* have that much natural resources. Even if we do we lack the know how and skills, especially interest. Malaysians care too much about profit than to make something good and nice. Same reason why we have 0 fashion designers who expand to as big as Dior or Chanel. Most is 5 branches worldwide, no cosmetic/perfume lines. QUOTE(adli78 @ Jun 12 2014, 03:19 PM) I think that is well said Joey-kun. Worst more, Malaysia is now full with those cheap imitation designer perfume (Dubai Gred, Reject perfume, Gred AAA+ etc). I think its all about appreciation that is lacking. thats because ppl wanna save cost and keep buying. i avoid those because the smell is horrible compared with the real thing. also the smell will go away after a while and you're left with that stale smell

QUOTE(attacusatlas @ Jun 15 2014, 11:49 PM) Both my billing and shipping addresses are the same. I know Malaysia is a high credit card fraud country but like what edward has rightly pointed out - why so random?? I had to do that when i first bought from them also. That was back in 2010. My further purchases went without incident.

QUOTE(edwardleong @ Jun 16 2014, 12:24 AM) I have being disappointed further by our country. My last haul of Vetiver Fatal and tons of samples was detained by Unit Farmasi of Kastam and it caused me a big hoo haa to get my parcel released and was been warning by AVP of the department: you are not suppose to buy perfume online and get them shipped here, do you have a license to do so? if you say personal use, why is there so many small vials. i told her the samples are complimentary, she ask me where got so nice give u alot samples.. end up she gave me a one time clearance.. and threaten to confiscate my further order. then i explain to her.. the site that provide shipping to malaysia for sure understand the rules and regulations of international shipping. then she show me the control drug act... i was like u wan tax then tax la... what for shit with me when i go to pos laju's kastam to claim my parcel, it was been raped open and reseal poorly. i ask the officer why kena tahan, they explain random sample... i was like wtf then they say usually buy online no problem ge, they ask me do i buy from FragranceX lol..... can anyone tell me why are we still stay here? Always ask the seller to label your fumes as cosmetics samples. And declare them to be less than rm50 to not attract attention. so far SN knows how to label and pack their products and make them appear like presents so that the customs wont rape... well they would probably back off after thinking twice about checking a birthday present.

QUOTE(t0n3 @ Jul 1 2014, 11:50 PM) Haul of the classic - Shalimar by GuerlainLuca Turin calls it the reference oriental. I was totally ignoring it all this while after I first sniffed it two years ago. It put me off with the old lady vibe. My nose wasn't ready yet I should say. After my sampling last time round I grew to love it. Partly has to thank Musc Ravageur too, which I love and shares some similarities with Shalimar. I got my 90ml EdP from a LYN seller for RM240. He was kind enough to give me free PosLaju shipping after I identified myself as a regular of this perfume forum thread. I know my crappy Ipad camera doesn't do this legend justice but here goes anyway. finally a haul that costs less than 300!

QUOTE(attacusatlas @ Jul 3 2014, 09:59 PM) I am yet to own any creation from this house. Time to save up (or break the piggy bank). You should. Guerlain is an essential in any Perfumista's wardrobe for a reason. Everyone in Basenotes and Fragrantica loves Guerlain and has at least 1 Guerlain in their collection.

For MFK fans, he has a new release. Slated for US release in Aug/Sept: NOTES: Féminin Pluriel A grand floral bouquet that unfolds from Florentine iris to violet, from Grasse rose to Egyptian jasmine, from lily-of-the-valley to orange blossom. It is upheld by the simplicity of chypre accents blending a vetiver note with Indonesian patchouli. Masculin Pluriel A fougère accord, the trademark of major men’s classics, set off by the depth of lavender absolute from Provence and a soft leathery accord built on an architecture of Eastern red cedar, Indonesian patchouli and vetiver from Haiti. Family: fougère - woody - leathery This post has been edited by Joey-kun: Jul 9 2014, 09:08 AM

QUOTE(jarcmercier @ Jul 10 2014, 09:25 AM) ...the kinda reformulated, watered down & extremely close to the skin EN 2013 tat i got. Sien liao !! use more sprays. Dior Vetiver is weaker than tis one. It costs close to 900 but smells weak, but yet nice grapefruit vetiver coffee is so gorgeous. i could wear this daily. suprisingly the mat sallehs at BN thinks that this watered down version is better: http://www.basenotes.net/threads/384062-Re...an-the-original
