SOTD - Michael for men

Blind bought this 75ml bottle cheap (<RM100) from SN off recommendation it has beast mode projection, which unfortunately I don't get. Mine is a vintage bottle produced by Givenchy and has just MICHAEL printed on bottle. Current one is printed as MICHAEL KORS. After trying Pure Malt, I don't really get the comparison except for the same booziness. I get a hint of sweetness but not candy sweet, dried fruits, tobacco and spicy accords. Sharp opening that will tickle your nose. Has slight dated feel to it. 100% masculine, nothing unisex about it. All in all, scent gets a 5 out of 5 from me. A very underrated frag especially at this price point. I get moderate projection but good longevity from it.

One thing I had to mention is that my batch code is being cut out (sticker on bottom of bottle) and taped (box). I heard they do that to avoid lawsuits by selling it to grey market.

SOTD - Bogart Pour Homme

Blind bought this 100ml bottle from perfumebulk.com for RM102 off recommendation it has beast mode projection, which unfortunately again I don't get. This is probably my worst blind buy ever. The scent is just too musky and dated for my taste. Definitely going to my WTS list. Good projection and longevity on my skin.

Just got my 24 Gold fr FragX today. Box properly wrapped & in good condition as usual. Oh ya, the batch code on the bottle is different fr the box.
Sprayed once on top of my hand. An intense burst sweet raspberry opening which last for few mins or so. The drydown is more soothing to the nose.I can certainly get quite some bit of oud, vanilla & dash of amber. I like the soothing calm scent, esp so when I applied it again on a rainy cold nite now. My gal didnt like it much though. She was like couple feet fr me & asked "why is there a sweet scent just like the incense smell at the temple. Not nice leh"  Yup, she got the oud !   Projection is just average on me. Wonder what's the beastly projection ppl are taking abt. Longevity is above average. I gona try this on my nite out & on cooler day.
*
Did you get the one with pocket sprayer as well? Seems like we both get the same result. I would rather wanna believe it's been reformulated instead.

My purchase came in the mail today. Got this Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum tester bottle for RM175 from one of the sellers in lowyat.

Yup,with the pocket sprayer which is quite cool. Whatever the issue on projection (stil not shabby), it's a very good quality juice. Glad i got my hands & nose on it.

So how's the ES parfum? Would it smell dated or something that a grandpa would wear?
*
I would associate anything with too much oakmoss dated and candy sweet juvenile. This one has none of those. I think grandpa would rock Bogart Pour Homme instead. ESP is good for matured individuals and formal setting. Dry herbal opening with Encre Noire vetiver drydown. Has similar vibe as Fahrenheit Absolute, which I prefer more but unfortunately the seller doesn't have it. I like ESP and FA but I wouldn't pay retail for it. Moderate projection and good longevity on my skin.

I would pay retail for FA... If it is slap with a niche brand, can sell higher price.
I didn't like FA before but I'm beginning to like it more now. Niche quality for sure no doubt about that.

QUOTE(kelthuzad @ Jul 18 2013, 12:13 AM)
eh bro,i thought you dont really fancy eau sauvage edp??
*
Haha, yeah, I still don't quite like the opening but drydown is nice. It's a solid frag from Dior I want it in my collection but I'm only willing to pay tester price for it.

I think the simple note of myrrh and vetiver in ESP makes it a good candidate for blending. I can use the dry note in ESP to tone down the sweetness of 24 Gold. Therefore, my SOTD is ESP + 24 Gold.

Tom Ford... i love you... Black orchid set the standard so high for niche d..... Me myself got seduced by it... the scent! projection really beast!!!

100% can make girls knee go weak... i recommend a solid buy! entrance to niche

SOTD - Black orchid

You bought it already? Where and how much? I see chocolate and patchouli. Does it smell like LIDGE? Wow, MJ rocked this.

SOTD - 24
Trying this today. Has that 80's vibe maybe due to Lavender and oak moss. Good projection and longevity on my skin.

SOTD - Pure Havane

Trying this today. Smells like A*Men with a hint of Bogart Pour Homme without the tar note and oak moss.

Sniffed Eros again just now. Confirmed generic boring scent.

Trying Chergui again for the 2nd time. Kinda like it now. Good projection maybe for the first 2 hrs on my skin.

- Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan (closest thing to TOM FORD Private Blend of Amber Absolute)
- PAPHI (close resemble of TOM FORD Noir, except weaker
Still waiting for my Ambre Sultan. Actually blind bought this based reviews that it might be "the one" for me.

Sprayed both PAPHI and TFN on my wrists recently. Both smelled very similar but TFN was stronger and lasted longer too.

I wanna get my nose on Aventus as well as it probably is the most hyped up frag from this house.

My SOTD is Pure Leather. Trying this today. One of bro Astroboy22 favorites. I get very strong leather note from this.

as u say stronger n lasted longer, is it worth enough to pay double for TFN?
Maybe not worth it. I could just spray PAPHI on shirt (juice's clear) or bring a decant for re-application. Moreover, it's not unique enough for the higher price tag since there's already a cheaper alternative. However, I would probably still get it if I see a tester at cheaper price.

Went to The Body Shop and tried Kistna, not bad for a citrus frag. Tried Arber thinking it was Amber. No, there's no amber. It's a bit sweet but not syrupy sweet. Not bad as well.

Went to an organic shop and to my surprise they have scented soaps. Bought the one with frankincense and myrrh just for fun. Doesn't smell like Fahrenheit Absolute though.

I did try Activist but forgot how it smelled like already.

My SOTN is Chergui again. Such a beautiful scent.

Amber sultan? Do you love the scent of oregano? because AS starts off by shoving oregano up your nose before it goes down to benzoin.
*
I don't mind in your face herbs. How's the projection and longevity of AS on your skin?

My SOTD = NRFH. Sampled this from a vial before and it had strong projection and good longevity but mine just has moderate projection and longevity. Still smells the same. I don't like the sprayer. Doesn't spray a lot of juice. Maybe I should try to double my sprays and see if projection gets better.

SOTD - NRFHM

A very animalic musky scent, which I'm not a big fan of. I also get very faint berries note from the opening but quickly fades away. Lover of DH/DHI iris wouldn't like the iris in this. Bought it from my local Metrojaya store cheap just for collection. I only get moderate projection and longevity from it. Maybe it's been reform? I'm looking forward to their Amber Musc but it's only for sale in Middle East. Yea, my Ambre Sultan has reached KL.

Actually I posted the price before. Anyway, I paid RM335 for NRFH and NRFHM (both 50ml), received a free 10ml Burberry Body EdP (for my wife) and RM40 MJ discount vouchers.

SOTD - NRFHI

Got this 50ml bottle from my local Metrojaya store for RM210 in a gift set. Actually it was just bottle (w/o box) and vial. Received RM20 MJ discount voucher in return. Not the cheapest deal but I just had to get this latest flanker in my collection. To my nose it smells the same as NRFHM. I get slightly better projection and longevity than NRFHM.

SOTN - Tom Ford Black Orchid

Trying from a decant I got from our bro edwardleong. It's projecting pretty strong right now. Two sprays on my wrists fill up my small bedroom with aircond on. Tried it earlier on with windows opened but didn't feel it projecting as strong. Opens up with sweet floral note. Kinda has that same vibe as Coco Mademoiselle (w/o the rose). I was expecting something similar to LIDGE with that chocolate and patchouli. No, it doesn't smell like LIDGE but I have yet to wait for the drydown. Personally I feel it's really for women as marketed. All in all, it's a solid frag and Michael Jackson rocked this.

SOTD - Encre Noire

Blind bought this based on very good reviews and glad that I like it. Got this 50ml bottle from SN for around RM200. Not the cheapest deal I know but I just had to have it in my collection. Beautiful smoky vetiver and quite linear too. It reminds me of the opening of Rocky Mountain Wood by Dsquared² and drydown of Eau Savauge Parfum. Sniffed Grey Vetiver by Tom Ford but doesn't smell like one.

I had a weird experience with this bottle and I read somewhere someone had the same case as well. First few wearings from this smelt nothing or very faint so I stopped wearing it for a while. Then I came back to it one day and the scent just came alive like activated. Moderate projection but good longevity on my skin.

Came earlier in the mail today from SN. I thought I would still have to wait until next week. A little disappointed as I was expecting vintage bottle as shown on their page. What I got is new packaging with the logo that prints SL. First impression, it isn't something I expected but I probably would have to give it a few full wearings before concluding anything.
