ok can the q5pro decoded the atoms x to multi channel via optical out to optical into AV receiver? which mean i will get the same effect if i use passthrough via hdmi and let the av receiver decode the DTS-X. Because mY very old receiver does not have HDMI input but have the optical and coax in. That is why i use the q5pro act as a dtsx , dts hd as a decoder. I have a 5.1 setup. my receiver got DTS and dolby.
yr AVR is obsolete.
DTS and Dolby are digital audio but are not HD audio.
optical/coaxial output can only handle DTS/DD, not higher.
DTSHDMA, DDTrueHD are HD audio, need AVR with HD audio capability.
DTSX, DDAtmos are even higher grade HD audio - these need AVR with DTSX/DDAtmos capability.
You need media source, player and AVR all HD audio capable to give HD audio.
Or all DTSX/DDAtmos setup to give DTSX/DDAtmos audio.
For these, only possible with HDMI connections and cables.
in yr case, if the source and player are HD audio, but yr AVR is not, it will downgrade to core DTS/DD.
similarly for video, if source and player are 4k, but TV is not, it will downgrade to 1080p.
only with 4k tv can 2160p or 1440p be displayed.
