Been looking towards getting VW , now with the same budget I have a hard time choosing between:

1) Golf MK7 - new

2) Golf GTI MK6 - used

wanted the torque of MK6 GTI but used car's condition is unknown despite all being "TIP TOP CONDITION"

MK 7 interior is definitely more appealing than the previous generation

DSG 7 speed dry clutch gearbox vs 6 speed wet clutch gearbox..

new car HP interest rate vs used car interest rate (differ by 1% and that cost around 1.5k per annum)

SA in VW offer me rebate rm4k only for MK7 1.4 Golf..

analysed pro and cons but still having a headache...

VW owners - advice?

GTI - because the GB is simply more reliable and its a GTI.

Oh well, newer features, lower price tag.

2014 Polo Sedan

Was actually expecting more, but, oh well. It's a VW.

Care to elaborate why down to these two vehicles? What is important to you? If given the choice, I would not go for French cars. Even though there are some issues circulating around with the DSG of the VW, I would still go with the Passat anytime. As suggested by the forummer earlier, most important is go with your heart. Just go test drive and make the decision yourself. (I also feel the 508 is not very good looking, though better than the much uglier 408).

Down these two? Coz i want to try and drive Europe/western car coz my car at the moment is a latio and it served me almost 5 years ady. So i think more or less if i opt for accord/camry will be a same coz its still in the same cup of tea. tongue.gif my inportant to me of coz ride and handling with stiff feel on wheel and maybe a bit 'showoff' a bit tongue.gif

2014 Polo Sedan - RM86,888
2013 Vios G - RM88,500
2013 Preve LE - RM79688
2013 Almera VL - RM79813

For me I'll go for PS for the badge, Vios for reliability, Preve LE for styling and Almera for VFM.

Let us know what is your decision after you have test driven the Peugeot 508. You will be able to determine which vehicle you like better after you have test driven both and looked at the interior, fit and finish and features, but in terms of reliability and after-sales service it is anyone's guess. I would say the VW would be much reliable than the French in the long-run, and not forgetting the unreliable Peugeot's after sales-service. Mechanics and used car dealers I have met only have bad words for Peugeot and French vehicles in general.

If talking about looks, personally I would think the Passat is a classier car than the Peugeot inside out if compared to the 508, though it's all a matter of preference. Ride and handling, you would be able to figure that out yourself after you have test driven both.

Accord and Camry, I would pick the Accord high spec. Although the Accord may lose to both Passat and Peugeot in areas of refinement, handling and overal luxury feel, Honda's after sales service is the main reason why most people still pick the Japanese over continentals. If the Accord runs into problems, spare parts are readily available and you will usually get your vehicle within a day after the mechanics have fixed it at the service centre. The same cannot be said with VW or Peugeot. VW is still a much safer bet than Peugeots. If Peugeots, you may need to leave the car in the service centre for several days or even up to weeks for the spare parts to arrive, or if the problem can be successfully addressed at the SC. Imagine the inconvenience without having a car for several days or weeks in the event of a mechanical failure. You won't get this with the Accord, or the Camry.

Good luck.

By the way, Latio to the Passat/508, quite a big jump. If you are driving alone most of the time and back space is not important to you, you can consider the Ford Focus Titanium high spec. The handling is way better than the Nissan, and higher league than the Passat too. It only loses to the Passat in overall refinement in the engine/gearbox performance and NVH, but in handling and steering feel it is better than Passat and likely the 508 too. But if you have teenage kids or back space at the back and rear legroom are important to you, then you can scratch the Focus out.

suggest to use Ron 97.. Better use Ron 97. One of my friend who working in SHELL said the sale of Ron 97 has increased. More people are finding the advantages of Ron 97, you can get extra miles in long run smile.gif

In that case, 7speed DSG with 1.8cc is not reliable.... cry.gif sigh.. and when i read through vw malaysia fb page, so many negatives view on the after sales service and can say all cars if got problem and need to repair it will take up to 3 months shocking.gif futhermore they not very keen to help us to overcome the problem.

Don't know how true are the negative views. I don't think all cars will need a waiting period of 3 months to repair. It depends on the problem, likely an isolated case?

If you want to play safe than perhaps the Accord, Teana or Camry would be safer choices.
