i just went there from 6th jan to the 11th jan - we decided not to pre book our holiday, no arrangement and no booking what so ever to make it DIY...the first thing that we do was to find a dedicated transport during our stay because we have DIY our itinerary.

At the airport, we stopped by and there was a lot of counter booth for hiring driver. We then tried to initiate a deal with a small company namely IndoTrans and their saleswoman namely Putu. We agreed to pay Rp300k per day for 10 hours not including petrol for Toyota Avanza. If we were to bust our 1o hours agreement, we need to pay Overtime which is Rp100k per hour. Thats the best deal after spending like 1 hours.

The next day, IndoTrans assigned Pak Irwan as our driver. We tried to stay within our 10 hours timeframe but Pak Irwan insisted we dont have to pay for it as Putu, the saleswoman, will not know anything about overtime. So throughout our stay there, on daily basis we will bust our 10 hours timeframe and he will not ask for any single fees except for petrol which is Rp100k per trip. He will ask for just Rp50k for short trip.

Its  seems that I can get Rp350k per day - for Avanza or Suzuki APZ if a deal directly with him. This includes petrol and no overtime limitation. If you are traveling in a group of 6 pax, you just paying somewhere around Rp60k (MYR20) for trip around Bali.

huh..why so kamcheong.one..just reach there & get-loh..no need pre-booking what..btw, jojo, it's not your 1st time there..u should have notice there are lotsa drivers on hire everywhere around Kuta

Actually since it's ur 2nd trip, it's good to just lazed in the nice cosy hotel rather than venture too far as the 1st umphhhh..no longer there....I concentrated my 2nd trip more on areas I failed to go in 1st trip & also places that I feel a 2nd time is a must...Imagine on my 2nd trip, I dropped most of my 1st trip itineraries such as Uluwatu/Tanah Lot & etc & I ventured even further to Java Timur!!  Too bad I missed Lombok & also Penida island...coz...the pricing just isn't right 

But expecting the 1st time umphhhh no longer there...

Denpasar..I think if u hv been to Kintamani/Ubud, u already passed the city b4 only that u din realise it bcos thyere is no real demarcation between Kuta & Denpasar except a short kampung or land cleraring b4 entering the city....well..honestly nothing much there actually... I dropped by at the park & thinking of going to the museum but can't find dunno why!! That' even wth GPS!!    ..Stopped at the souvenir market & finding nothing interesting bcos there are selling more local products rather than Tourist related.

On the eastern side, u can venture to Sukawati, Sanur beach (Just the other end of Denpasar & the main beach in Bali b4 Kuta & Nusa Dua developed -That's what I read), Kun Klung, Padang Bai (U can take the ferry to Lombok island - That's my nxt trip plan..instead of Bali..goto Lombok & Sumbawa) , Goa Lawah & opposite the Goa Lawah..it's a fantastic black sand beach...yeah entirely black..even a pc of white paper can be seen from far..

Yeah-loh nothing much there... ..waste my 1 day Eastern side tour actually...If I'm not mistaken it took me almost 2 hr driving to Goa Lawah... ..no mood to continue till Padang Bai after that & detoured bck to Kuta...

Place that I can think off but not snorkelling as no facilities provided is those crystal clear beach located South of Bali in between Uluwatu to Nusa Dua..such as Bali Cliff & Geger beach....water clarity is suprisingly as good as those in Redang & tioman..probably better...but I dun think there is any corals..That areas used by locals to harvest seaweed..more like snorkelling for seaweed

in malsingmaps there is one guy in the name of rockweiler releasing his own Bali maps FOC...in member's maps section. Try there...otherwise, I'm not sure whether navigasi, a similar mapping community in Indonesia releasing their free maps or not? They did released one last year... and that maps by navigasi is awesome.. u probably can google for navigasi indonesia?

If just within Kuta, then is fine.. can rent a bike. But some place that is a must to go is quite far away like bedugul...Kintamani...Tanah Lot..

guys which company give good prices on renting a car? is it advisable to rent from the airport? this is my first time in bali and i'll be staying at nusa dua from 16-20th feb..

iif possible can you guys recommend me a driver also? thanks guysss appreciate it alot

Added on February 7, 2009, 4:17 amguys after browsing thru this thread i come to a conclusion that the only way that i can avoid being slaughtered for dinner is have a half day tour with a driver (eg. wayan)?
because i read some where a full day is from 9am-9pm am i correct? so a half day tour would be until around 3pm thus avoiding the dreaded expensive restaurants which the drivers will bring you to.
how about lunch time? because i dont want to be forced into paying for an expensive meal by my driver esp. when food in bali is relatively cheap

Not sure I always stick to my own Telco that's Maxis. They offer RM2.50/min calling bck using their IDD120 from Indo...Otherwise, I always use my skype credit to call bck Malaysia..so far the cheapest for me ~US$0.20/min from anywhere....But provided the wifi broadband quality at the overseas destination is good & >2000kbps otherwise line pretty bad
Edited:..Opss I think it's impossible to get broadband in Bali...If I'm not mistaken way back in 2007, the highest speed only 384kbps & damn expensive!!

Probably cheaper but so far I hv not buy any prepaid card in any of my Holidays..   Reason...U will be njoying your holiday & less calls. How many time you going to call bck M'sia? If only 1 or 2 calls, why need to buy a prepaid card which might hv minimum amt of ~RM20 and at the ned on the Holiday only using 1/4 of it?

Geee...U lost eventhough wth GPS    I have  a scary experience in the North too but not wth GPS....my rented car having no power to climb those slope on the way from Kintamani to Bersakith...
