Hello everybody,
I'm thinking of buying this laptop. Can any of you tell me about your experiences with it?
Specifically I'm looking for information about warranty as well as how cool it runs. I'll be doing moderate gaming. Probably HoN and Dragon Age, Sim City, and when the new GTA comes out, GTA5.
I'm looking for a workhorse, something that will be on all the time.
EDIT: Specifically I was looking for information of the y400.

You will not find anything at this price with the same spec. very versatile and great build quality. No regrets buying my Y500 till now. Conclusion; great spec, great value for money what more can you ask?

Suggest u to get upcoming Y500/GT750m selling around RM28xx with bigger and better full HD screen, better cooling to suite ur needs. If ur budget is tight, then get Y400/GT750m/freeDOS selling around 23xx and use extra cash for CM u2 or u3 cooler, mSATA SSD to improve system responsiveness, upgrade to 3 yrs onsite warranty.

For those with tight budget, can get basic model Y500 with single card GT750m, later can add swappable graphic card(GT750m) & 170w adapter when available for performance boost. For new Y400/GT750m, probably no optional swappable GT750m as no where to be seen around the web. This post has been edited by ytlay: May 8 2013, 03:51 AM

I would recommend getting a local set cause it is quite a huge investment. But that is my opinion since its always up to the buyer to decide.

The upcoming official local set Y500 come in 2 variants, basic model with GT750m and SLI model with GT750m sli. Greetings to all Y400/Y500 users, i'm thinking to upgrade the Wifi card to Dual-Band Wifi card..anyone have done it?? i ask few technician/expert about this & they said : » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « "Please do take note that Lenovo Y400 require WLAN card with security code in the firmware & the require model number must be listed in the BIOS. Unfortunately neither Intel Wireless Ultimate N6300 or Intel Wireless Advance N6235 is NOT LISTED in the Y400 BIOS so you will have to either :-
A. Install a BIOS that is updated with the require model. B. Install a circumvented/modified BIOS which bypass the security check.
Most Lenovo laptops comes with a security feature which will only allow WLAN cards with security code in it's firmware & models listed in the laptop BIOS to prevent data theft (eg snooping). This is an important feature for business user but some non-business users see this as non-upgrade friendly so they normally flash the laptop BIOS with a 3rd party updated BIOS or unlocked/bypass/modified BIOS.
If you install a 3rd party BIOS with updated WLAN models, you will retain the security function but you will still need the respective WLAN card with the security code in the firmware aka LENOVO approved version. However if you install an unlocked/bypass/modified BIOS, you basically remove/disable the security function so you should get the generic version which can also be use on Dell, Acer, Sony etc." My current Wifi Card : Atheros AR9485 WB-EG link.. Upgrade to : Intel Wireless Advance N-6235 (Dual-Band with Bluetooth 4.0) link..
