*
Tokina's 11-16, less range but useful for low light shooting

sorry, but Sigma and Tokina has any sharpness or softening on the edges issue? so far all UWA reviews says if got $$ go for nikkor, everything else is mediocre. any thoughts on these words? thanks alot!
*
If you need edge to edge sharpness just stop down to around F/5.6 - F/8.
Nikkor lenses have good sharpness & color (according to people who use them) but heavy and hard to correct distortion (mustache-like).

Every lens has it's own compromise, best to do some personal research to see which one won't affect your style of shooting.

rclxms.gif LOL !! DAFAK ! where u find this? ayam oso duno bout this @@ must be still new to photog ><
btw why u all hate him leh?  hmm.gif
as in the 12-24 de colour produced better ah? but if colour can correct in lightroom/photoshop de or not?  hmm.gif

blue tint as in?
for V2 de so far i know got add coating to reduce the flare loh... colour not sure.. need to test it out...
*
IMO color rendition is abit moot if you PP alot.
Read some tests about the new coatings, not much difference, flare is one of Tokina's weakness, and it's still there in V2 unfortunately.

Pixelpeep? hmm so overall not much diff one rite? without PP-ing

but flare not counted bad to everyne rite? for me abit flare still okay.. the effect nice to me  smile.gif

the V2 and V1 just diff is motor and coating only? how bout canon eh...

@ japan just rm200 diff, so i got the V2 instead... in msia rm600 diff @@
*
That's what my cousin told me about the difference between his canon 10-22 and tokina 11-16,
says got difference in color but honestly i can't see any.
Maybe need to upgrade to something similar to his dell ultrasharp to see it sweat.gif

Doesn't bother me that much though, flare issue also, I just consider it artistic flare. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(Maniac @ Apr 29 2013, 09:05 PM)
i mainly used it on D7000 with video...  not much things can do to the color grading :S
that's why prefer 12-24 ways better
*
What about white balance adjustment? Possible to do that for video right?

haha... yea lo @@ diff not much ba.. ltr lemme check see
*
the 12-24 is priced waaaaaaaay out of budget for most people including me doh.gif

RM3500 vs RM1800(tokina V1) gets you better build quality and color and some additional perks which is not worth it for people looking just for the perspective a wide angle can give like me.

Besides, 11mm and 12mm is very noticeable when compared side by side, even more so with sigma's 10mm starting point, cheaper too.

wah v1 so cheap ? why half feature leh?

the 12mm nikon i mean its not true 12mm... its mayb 12.5 like that...

what flash u looking for?
*
Really? That's bad then shakehead.gif

The V1 is really simplistic compared to the V2, no mode dial, no built in flash, no command dial (has a lever for aperture/SS but meh, I like dials brows.gif ).

Looking for the SB-N5, but at the price i was quoted, its HALF of the price of the V1 leh, too bad no third party alternatives doh.gif

Here's a shot I took today using the V1, PP and cropped in lightroom.

u got ur tokina v1 rite? quality how?

cuz if get from japan they say warranty is 1 year warranty from japan only, no international...
but from the website say got wor, except USA

http://www.tokinalens.com/support/warranty/
*
Not mine, on loan from my cousin, planning to get one for myself in the near future.

The build quality is awsome, I dare say equivalent to the 12-24 (no moving lens tube, metal body). But the focus clutch can sometimes jam when switching from A to M.
Photo quality cannot say yet, since I'm waiting to get my D7000 this weekend, upgrading from a D5100 which i sold recently. icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

Damn, 1800 only in japan, here cheapest I got was 2200+ doh.gif But is there a service center here in Malaysia to honor that warranty though?

Sigma quite known for their copy variation problem, some lens good, some not so good, pray you get good copy la when buy sigma.
But their new art series FUIIIIIIYOH farking nice, really feels like Carl Zies lens. Sharper than Canon/Nikon equivalents summore. drool.gif drool.gif drool.gif

I was quoted RM2300 for the body only, no freebies. Cheapest I got after a week of research on prices. Their shop located at Pudu Plaza btw biggrin.gif

Impulse purchase for a lens costing RM3500?? scary weih shocking.gif

Ehh but they announced the 30mm 1.4 ART for crop bodies , price should be around 1700+ when it arrives here I believe. Not as sharp, but does the job la.

Lenstip has a review already for it, link below

Not sure leh, best to compare MTF from the same site if you wanna confirm.

DigiRev? They have video on the new art version already?

And no its not 1.8, it's a revision of the current 30mm 1.4 from sigma. Looks like the baby brother of the 35mm 1.4 art laugh.gif

btw digirev de video funny as shit haha nice to watch... but duno about his review okay bo? what u think?
*
LOL if you want useful information, better get it elsewhere.
I've watched many of their videos before but get the impression that most of the videos is just listing the specs out, comparing the "feel" of the camera/lens, and so on.

In the end their videos are there for the LOL factor, nice to watch if you like hearing an asian guy with a British accent brows.gif

aha , the sigma bokeh better than nikon, but will over expose lah..

haha nice lo watch his video, release stress  rclxms.gif  laugh laugh

btw DXO is a good website for lens reviews rite?
*
DXO test alot of aspects of a lens like vignetting, sharpness, CA, bla bla bla. Quite useful if you're into the technical aspects of a certain lens la.
But their reviews are really technical, not much comment on the real world use of the lens.

For real world uses of lenses, blogs can help but can tend to create confusion due to the subjective nature of the review.

I usually read more than a few review websites+blogs for the lens i'm interested in, then weigh the pros and cons against my shooting style.

Most important is to keep in mind the quirks of the lens you're looking for and see whether these quirks will affect you or not. (AF speed, weird lens design, build quality, whatever you find that interests you in particular)

slrgear, not the slrpreview, wrong website just now @@
*
That's also a website I visit often, but like I mentioned earlier in the thread la, best to compare results and opinions from several websites and blogs against your own needs and style.
Then you can be 80% sure the lens suits you, next "20%" step which is to go "test drive" the lens with the help of a shop or a friend brows.gif

Most of the places can get about 2150 -2200.
Why bother with Japan set when can have unlimited unfilled warranty card laugh.gif
That just RM 400 different biggrin.gif
*
Really? 2150-2200 is for the V2 Tokina right?? Mind sharing which shop please?? notworthy.gif

Btw unfilled warranty card doesn't work on its own sometimes, I got asked for purchase receipt when I sent in a lens to futuromic last time.
Good thing I had the receipt with me just in case. sweat.gif

Maybe you can try your luck by calling the local service center and mentioning the clause, see if they accept it or not.

Which I'm also curious about, anyone know who is the supplier and service people for Tokina in Malaysia?
