EDIT, this is what i want to say actually:

after nearly paying full price on dell webpage, then cancel my order after knowing there is better deal offline, and found out refund only going to be made in 3 weeks time, i guess i have to abandon the alien mothership. because refund is 3 weeks, and ordering is 3 more weeks if i am lucky... that's 6weeks more.. if dragged.. then it nearly take 2 freaking month... i cant take it... DELL cs is cool but it doesn't help...

so, i am going to go for something lightweight and portable...

and a shout out to @xandman for being a cool dude provide me detail of his purchase for my reference... smile.gif

ps: went to a pc store here in ipoh. they have the alienware in store... and belive me.. the AW17 is much more tempting to have...

got it d.
u need to go to Alienware Audio.
Select Advanced and change the port to "Headphones".
Then u get sound.

Headphones must be plugged in to do this. icon_rolleyes.gif

ok.
i think what u r refering to is not noise. it's more of a hiss.
thats bcoz the onboard audio is powered by a not so clean power source and also the DAC/amp chip used may not be of the highest quality.
Also do consider the interference of the other electronics on the same board.
Ur best bet to remove it is to get an external DAC...that will solve the first problem.
However if u want totally dark background u need to invest in a higher quality DAC/Amp.
I used to have the Centrance DACport. It's a DAC with built in Class A amp.
the background is as dark as u want it. Even with my most sensitive IEM, i couldnt hear a thing.

but here's the thing....DACport is 1.6k. If u r into audio stuff, it might be a good investment.

but then again, what headphones r u using?

I tested using a Logitech UE6000 (Headphone) and Westone ES3x (IEM).

For me, the AW14 is for gaming, so i dun mind the little bit of hissing. After all, my UE6000 does exhibit some hissing once the built-in amp is powered up.


Just in case u r interested to get the DACport....Here's some poison.

i have a gaming desktop...but now i play mostly on the AW14...
although the settings wont be max-ed out...but somehow it feels more fun being able to game ANYWHERE...

Borderlands 2...No problem!
Bioshock Infinite...NO problem!
Crysis 3...Low-Medium No Problem!
Metro : Last Light...Havent tried.... Shud be no problems at low settings...

Imagine this...
AW14 + Razer Sabertooth = Portable Console with a gaming rig capabilities = FTW!

That's my a few sen worth la.
