Hi! I'm now at HK airport on transit while waiting for my flight to Narita. Since my layover is rather long, I brought along some HK currency which I had leftover during my visit to HK in 2011, to pay for my food and drinks in the airport. Among the currency is a HK$1,000 note.

When I tried to use this $1,000, the shops refused to accept it, saying that it can not be used anymore. I enquired at the currency exchange counter and they told me that I could only try exchanging it in a bank, which might or might not accept it. Luckily, I brought along some USD which we changed into HK$.

Does anyone have such a similar experience? I hope my HK$1,000 doesn't end up going down the drain.

If year 2003 HSBC, some shop no accept. Only can exchange at bank provide your note is original.

Last year, I used that to purchased Airport Express Card, they accept. Maybe you can try the counter see they layan you.

I booked my hotels a few months ago when our currency exchange still ok... the hotel will only charge my credit cards 14days before arrival. Which makes my accommodation rates up around 10% for 2 rooms /4nights. damn~

Basically, i budgeted around RM100/pax/day for food purposes.... guess i need more than RM2000 just for food... not incl transportation etc etc
*
u book from which website? i thought the price in ringgit appear in website, the credit card will charge that price.

hotel I intend to stay, before ringgit weak the price rm308 now rm330. hope it will recover by next year.

Family room rate average RM500 and above

Royal Plaza Hotel = rate can see RM500 (recently very rare to get this price) depend which date.

Went to HK last week. Stayed at Rosedale Kowloon. Decided to sit Bus E21 from airport to Hotel nearest stop at Cherry Street and walk to Hotel. Can Street View for direction. Paid HKD14 per trip but half of bus stop round Lantau Island near Airport area.

Second day to Cheung Chau Pier 5 from Central. Only there for 4 hours till 3pm included travel by fast ferry HKD25.80 per way. Miss out buy 2ways ticket maybe about HKD40++. Feel dizzy sat at top deck. Back that time sat lower deck.

Hot weather did not stay long. Walk along stall. Like pasar malam but one row long along street. Mostly sell mochi, fish ball 2 biji big size HKD10 per stick, drink in 500ml bottle honey kukfa about HKD28, dried seafood and etc.

Did not go to seafood restaurant coz have late breakfast. Other than eat, guess nothing to do. If go during cold weather, maybe will different feel. Behind street, can spot one or two stall do business. Bought so call fried ice cream HKD25 per cup. Use vanilla ice cream than mix with chocolate chip.

Hi, you can always check in your luggage at the airport express train station (not sure if AA have any counter there thou) I believe you can check in first thing in the morning and then just head over to the airport later the evening smile.gif but better get some confirmation before hand as I only check in my luggage 6 hrs prior departure via the station
