Hi,

I believe it is common for young people who are single (or even married) to go travelling together with their friends, and would like to save on accommodation by fitting in more than 2 persons in a room (e.g. 4 people in one room) because most of the time, hotel only serves the purpose of resting when you go travelling.

It is the same for me but I looked through the Internet, some of the more common tips and ideas given are as follows:

1. Do not bring more than 2 person when checking in (one room), and only call your friends up after you've checked in.
2. Put the "Do not disturb" sign on the door so the housekeeping won't find out there are more than 2 persons staying in the room.

Basically these are the two common tips that we thought of.

And I've also read that some travellers got hefty charges when checking out after they were caught by the hotel management for fitting in more persons than the rooms' maximum no. of guests.

Are there any other ideas or tips out there to avoid being charged extra for bringing more persons staying in one room? Or any hotels that someone has bad experiences due to being charged for extra persons.

Feel free to share and comment.

Really depends on place and type of hotel.

Donkey years ago, i had a graduation trip to langkawi where we had 6 fella in one room. We were noob by then, we told the hotel that we gonna fit 6 fella and they permitted.

I also have seen some low budget hotel that has a big sign "NO VISITORS ALLOWED AFTER XXX Hrs" "Register all Visitors"

Well, from my experience in cheaper hotels in Japan even if u can successfully smuggle people upstairs also you wouldn't want to because of how tiny the rooms are icon_idea.gif

And of course forumers are also welcomed to contribute their choices of hotels to fit in more people (e.g. spacious rooms etc.)

Some hotels provide a sofa-bed as a standard furniture in every room. Can assume it is okay to bring in guests? biggrin.gif

haha.. my family of 3 really surferred badly...thinking that the Queen sized bed sufficient for 3 and did not expect the bed is only super gingle instead of queen..furthermore.. the room so narrow.. Well, they don't even mind number of ppl biggrin.gif

BTW TS, As others mentioned really depending on hotels.. Most of the time, the hotel don't really care but certain hotel esp those budget one as what I experienced in Jogja, Jakarta charged me for extra head count mad.gif . The best was the one I experienced in Australia.. They saw me coming in 3 and instead of charging us for extra person, upgraded us to triple beds room for FREE rclxms.gif

I think keycard elevators and CCTV monitor does play a part here besides security reasons lol

It does help monitor guest and visitors in a way.

In some places the limitation is for insurance, they're insured for a certain number of people so if something happens that the hotel is responsible for (fire, building collapse etc) you're screwed and won't be entitled for the insurance if you fit more people in.

In almost all cases including in Malaysia, fire/bomba rules also play a role. Safety requires that the corridors and fire escapes be wide enough for x number of people so if more fit in the rooms then there may not be enough safe space when you have to evacuate.

In general though fitting 3 people in a 2-person room isn't such a big deal. 6... ? biggrin.gif
