Better to take Samsung 940BF. 19inch, 2MS, and better contrast ratio. Last couple of months checked was RM1050. Now compuzone sells at RM770.

Prices are dropping like super mad. My Viewsonic 19" wide is less than a year old, and today I can buy 2 for the price I paid 0.o

That being said, I'm hankering for a 24"...

Dammyit I thought I understood what was going on with all this HD nonsense but apparently I'm still lacking.

Been planning to buy a nice screen to go with the x360. I figured 720p would have been sufficient, but I'm thinking there will be more titles out in the future that'll do 1080p, and if I were to get something, I'd better make sure it wouldn't be obsolete tomorrow.

I was thinking about those 32" LCD TVs, but they usually have a resolution of 1360x768, can do 720p and usually cost like 3-5k. Example would be the Samsung LA32R71B. For a LCD TV to do 1080p, you have to look at a 32" or 40" screen that costs 8k+, or in Sony's case, twice that.

So doing 1080p on a LCD TV is beyond budget, unless someone can magically come up with something that costs 4k and deal with that reso.

So this brings me to the Dell 2707WFP. It's within budget; the 30" one isn't. It can do 1080p with either the VGA cable or component, I can't remember, and 27" seems big enough.

Is this the right way to go?

The 30' Dell monitor is not exactly a TV as it requires dual DVI to power the freaking high resolution 2560x1600. So I guess that's pretty much out of the picture at the moment.

As for 1080p, there won't be much difference for TVs as you won't be sitting so close to it. In order to see the difference, you gotta have at least a 40' (personal observation from electrical stores).

On another note, a lot of newer models are coming out soon, but as for our local shores, we'll still have to pay a premium for something that's already obsolete elsewhere. (e.g Bravia 40V200 is still going for SRP 9000 when you can get the 40W200 which is a 1080p panel in UK for roughly the same price)

So the question remains, to wait or not to wait. smile.gif

Cannot wait. Money is burnin a hole in my pocket.

I think it'll be the Dell 27", but rm4k is hefty... I might go for a 24", but I wanna see it on my friend's first.

if i were to pay 2.5k for a 24" lcd for the xbox360.. i'd rather go hunger for a few more weeks to get a 27" or 32" 720p lcd tv.. much more worth it imo.. so what if the dell 24" can do 1080p.. it's still a 24".. if u get what i mean.. lol..

QUOTE(yoroi @ Mar 7 2007, 12:55 AM)
yeah... you know you can get a 32" lg with hdmi input frm harvey norman for 2999 now and a samsung r7 26" for 2699..not much more than a 24"monitor and its a tv too
*
Therein lies my problem. I can stretch for a 27" Dell for its 1080p and the gaming/movie goodness that comes with that, OR settle for 720p and enjoy more screen real estate with a 32" LCD TV, and have spare change for a few more games.

I'm sure there are harder decisions in life, but this one is really stumping me right about now.

BTW, I sit about 7-8 feet away from the screen.

^^^ this is damn good feedback.

I'll go check out 32" LCD TVs. My buddy just got a Dell 24", and while it's a damn nice screen, I'm figuring the extra inches of the 32" would be more worth it.

Edit: How's the Samsung LA32R71B? Looks good, and can get for under 4k...

Thanks, guys smile.gif

i missed that earlier... if that's the case, go for LCD TV. LCD Monitors are meant for 1-3 feet viewing distance, not so bright... even a 32" tv feels a little bit small at 8 feet away, what would a 24"/27" look like? and i'm sure u would like a remote at 7-8 feet away  biggrin.gif
*
Yeah, with my 19" widescreen LCD I sit maybe 3 feet away. I think on the couch (when I get a couch... I just moved in) it would be about 7 feet, but with no coffee table in the way.

I'm swayed by the 32". There are a heck of a lot of options out there, though, so I guess the best thing is to stick to the established brands. Sony is a bit on the expensive side, so the Samsung looks to be the next best thing, and that black piano finish is damn sexay... Anyways, gonna check out the big retailers like SH and HSL and whatever. See if they can give a good price with a decent length warranty, like 5 years or something.

I'm just wondering, though, at the rate of LCD panel development, whether now is the right time to commit... The R7 has been around for a few months already, and who knows what new development and models are just around the corner...

How about this one? I saw it at Tan Boon Ming

http://www.sharp.com.my/web/srssc/productd...?pcode=LC32PX5M

IMO, it looks better than the Samsung R7 but its also more expensive. I think i'm gonna save up for one. Sure beats playing it on a Dell 24".. Arghh..so many things to buy, so little money.
*
It looks better, but is it better? RM500+ more than a R7...

Got Sharp bulk here.

The guy PMed me jus tnow, but I've already seen his bulk already. The differences between the models aren't very obvious... I'm not too sure what I'd be paying more for.

Went to Best Denki just now to look at LCDs.

The Sharp PX32 puts out a pretty good picture and it's not bad to look at. Over the 4k threshold, though, and therefore, over budget.

The Sharp BX5M is at a good price point, and will be a factor in the decision.

The Samsung 32S7 is the cheapest of the lot, exculding LG's rm2,999 effort, and it's not too bad a TV either.

But the 32R7 looks too damn good to resist. I figure, I've spent so much time, effort and money getting my apartment to look the way it does, I might as well put something in there that looks equally sexay. Oh, and the screen's not bad, too.

I'll commit to a LCD next week, but gotta find somewhere that offers a decent warranty. 1 year sadly does not cut it.

Guys i'm finding it so hard to buy component cables male to female...do you guys know where I can find it or if any of you guys are selling I would like to buy it...thanks.

I guess component cables tend to, well, bat for the other team, then tongue.gif

Seriously, you're basically looking for extension component cables? Female on one end to accept the male end of another component cable, and male on the other to plug into your tele?

Wouldn't it be easier to get female-female convertors and use two sets of component cables?

Female to female convertors. They're about 1 inch long, and have a female jack on both ends. They allow you to chain multiple component/RCA cables together. They should cost you no more that rm5 a pair, and can be found pretty much anywhere.

Hello, tomorrow going to get Xbox360, and with tv to. What is recommended tv? Affordable price, if can widescreen with support atleast 720p, if can CRT, but LCD is fine to smile.gif And what ur xb'ers recommended game other than GOW? Thx notworthy.gif
*
A good place to start would be a 19" widescreen LCD that'll take 1440x900 signals. That'll handle the 720p coming out of the xbox. These aren't that costly, they start from RM650+ I think, or around there. If you have a grand to play with, you can try for the 20" or 22" screens.

At about RM2600ish, you get into 1080p and 24" territory with the Dell panel.

For a TV to handle 720p... most likely you'd need a LCD/Plasma TV, and as far as costs go, they're a lot more than LCD monitors. If you have between RM3k and RM4k to spend, there's 32" LCDs. Above RM7k will get you the better 42" LCD/Plasmas.

There are HD ready CRT televisions I've seen but never really looked into. But they're much more expensive than regular CRT TVs, and for that price, you really should be looking at the bigger LCD monitors.

erm, if the 360 is place in the living room, can consider buy sony or philips 29" CRT TV. they support 720p/1080i. image quality quite nice, although the TV takes up a lot of space.

price ~ RM1.5k
*
I think you mean these:

LG 29"

Samsung 32"

These are regular CRT teles, but newer tech has made them a lot more slimmer, with flat screens. They're looking more like flat panels now, and they're widescreen too. They're also HD ready to 1080i, which is pretty much comparable to the 32" LCDs.

The Samsung is particularly interesting, being 32" and all... but notice that while it can take 1080i, it can't take 720p.

This one can take 720p though:

Samsung 32" HD

Still think I'll be going for a LCD.

they support 720p/1080i.

I think that was the more critical part in the post, not the brands involved. Also consider that while Sony does make HD ready CRTs available locally, they focus on 4:3 aspect ratio ones. And, while Phillips do make wide HD ready CRTs, they aren't in the MY lineup. And not every TV that does 1080i will do 720p.

The Samsung and LG examples are those I've commonly seen around in stores.

Today at Harvery Norman:

Looking at the 32" R7 @ rm3999. Then out of the corner of my eye, I see a 37" LG, going for rm4999, with 5 year warranty and a free HDMI player.

1 grand more, but 37" has a heck of a lot more screen real estate than 32". Understandably, there's a reason why LG sells for so much less, and it's probably the screen, but if one has a certain tolerance for a picture that's just a tad bit less than perfect, would this be a good LCD to consider?

I mean, I see a difference between the S7 and R7 in picture quality, but it's so marginal it won't bother me a bit while I'm engrossed in a game. 32" feels a bit on the small side, and 37" feels about right. I'd say my budget is 5k firm. But it boils down to whether LG makes a decent 37" screen or not.
