No samples to show from the S5600? It's actually quite an interesting camera since it can handle RAW with a semi-decent pace ...

Easy to say, because the FZ30 costs so much more. But oh, the Fuji will eat the Pana alive for noise performance. 'Nuff said.

Guys im curious, comparing the Fujifilm F11 with the Panasonic Lumix FX-01, which would be a better buy?

For one, im very interested with the high ISO low noise feature of the F11, which im sure, will reduce the need of using flash while taking indoor social shots. Will make the pics more natural right?

But the Lumix has a very good IS system, which will help me reduce double takings because of blurriness. Im also very interested with the 16:9 shots for lanscape as well as huge group photos.

That said, its high ISO no flash (hence faster shutter speeds) vs the lumix OIS. Which you think would be better in eliminating blurriness? (leave out the fact that the f11's pic quality would be much better tongue.gif)

Also, between both camera, which has better manual controls (in camparison, i know both dont have much =.=) and, can the F11 do cropped 16:9 shots at lower res?

Thanks!

High ISO helps to reduce handshake (visible as shake on object and background) and motion blur (visible as movement on object).

OIS helps to reduce handshake but cannot do anything for motion blur. You'll find a lot of motion blur in normal room lighting, and it is quite likely someone will move or half-blink.

On the FX01 landscape mode is a gimmick; at 4:3 ratio, full resolution is 2816 x 2112. At HDTV 16:9 (which is merely cropping off the top and bottom of the 16:12 which you can do in Photoshop) you get 2816 x 1584.

On the F11, you get 4:3 at 2848 x 2136 and 3:2 at 3024 x 2016, which is better, since a sensor is square-shaped, and the closer it gets to 1:1 the more resolution is squeezed out.

The F11 also has Aperture and Shutter, two invaluable manual settings which the FX01 does not have.

Woot! Really useful info there. Thanks for replying =D. Now i realised that high ISO is able to reduce motion blur too. Hmm f11 - 1, FX01 - 0.

But as for the 16:9, i've read that the FX01 is the first compact to use a real 16:9 sensor, and unlike other cameras that cropped, this takes it in real full res 16:9. In short, what i've read completely contradict what you've said tongue.gif. I was having the impression that on the FX01, all 4:3 shots are being cropped instead compared to 16:9 because of its 16:9 sensor unsure.gif.

And for the Aperture and Shutter, i read too that you cant get full control over the settings. Just the options of changing ISO, exposure, white balance, etc, but not the aperture and shutter speed settings themselves. Well i might've read wrong =.=''. Enlighten me

Thanks again for your time =D

Hi,

From what I have read, I believe the first compact to use a real 16:9 sensor is the LX01, which production has been discontinued, and not the FX01 tongue.gif The FX01 does not have a true 16:9 sensor, hence the panaromic pics are actually cropped as what you had originally expected.

As for the manual control for aperture and shutter, it is available in F11 (which is an improved version of F10), but not in F10.

Hope this helps, please correct me if I'm wrong though wink.gif

Also, Panasonic's current implementation of high ISO is quite sucky and looks upsampled and blurry compared to Canon's ISO800 and Fuji's ISO1600.

I got my resolutions from http://www.dpreview.com/news/0602/06021404panasonicfx01.asp so even if it was 4:3 being cropped, 4:3 still has more pixels per picture!

It's the Panasonic LX1 that can do this:
3840 x 2160 (16:9)
3248 x 2160 (3:2) - the 3:2 is cropped!

It also has full manual capability! biggrin.gif Sadly, it's limited to ISO400.

For consumer digicams:

Auto - can only set Flash on/off and timer
Program - can set ISO, White Balance, and finally EV. It picks Shutter and Aperture automatically based on ISO and EV.
Aperture - can set ISO, White Balance, EV and Aperture, picking Shutter based on Aperture, ISO and EV.
Shutter - can set ISO, White Balance, EV and Shutter, picking Aperture based on Shutter, ISO and EV.
Manual - can set ISO, White Balance, Shutter and Aperture. EV cannot be set as it is a combination of ISO, Shutter and Aperture. The camera will warn you if it thinks the exposure is wrong, but it won't persist and fix your settings for you. biggrin.gif

In cameras without manual exposure modes (Aperture, Shutter, Manual) the Program mode above is known as Manual. However, some Sonys have Program and Manual, but without Shutter and Aperture.
