Not a Fuji user, but I'm just wondering if anyone is lucky enough to have access to an S3 Pro. I'd really love to borrow/rent that stuff for a weekend or two to taste for myself what that baby can do!

On a side note, Fuji has, IMPO (personal opinion), the best colour rendition I've seen on digital cameras/SLRs. Their experience with film and processing certainly shows even in the digital age.

S7000 drains battery like silly, especially when you do a lot of manual focusing.

I have been using S7000 for almost 1.5 years. I believe it doesn't have any battery problem.

I started using it with 4 x 2300 mAh AA Sanyo batteries. I didn't have problems back then. Now, I am using 2500mAh AA Sanyo batteries. Still no problem. I use manual focus with an external hot shoe flash unit and also a 1024MB Kingston Elite Pro CF card. Still it doesn't drain my batteries. I can take a lot of shots with it.

I think the unit you used had problems, send it back for warranty.

eh note - i didn't say it has battery problem. i'm just saying battery runs out fast when you do a lot of manual focusing. smile.gif

sure. i can snap a lot of shots too, but like i said i find the battery drains fast when doing a lot of manual focusing.

EDITED : i've met another user that complained the same thing, different camera, different people, different everything - cept for the model.

anyway, it is very subjective. how you do your focusing, using EVF / LCD. many factors involved.

i never took note on how many shots i get to do with 1 full charge, but i could use it quite a while before i need a new set of battery - but yes, my stand remains that if manual focusing a lot it really drains, notice how the focusing is mechanism driven.

some more my definition and yours (like 'a lot' or 'drain fast') could be different.

smile.gif

anyway i do face this though........
http://www.digi-darkroom.com/archive/index.php/t-5755.html

have a read. it's like i have a fully charged battery put inside and leave it for some time. then i try to use it like some time later - i can't even power up.

but the camera is usually OK if the CF is not inside. smile.gif

Fujifilm FinePix S7000 Zoom: possible power adjustment required for cameras manufactured prior to 15 December 2003

Release Date: 12 January 2004

Fujifilm today announced that a number of early FinePix S7000 Zoom digital cameras may experience battery power depletion when used with some CompactFlash(tm) memory cards.

Fujifilm has already made the required internal modifications to cameras manufactured after 15 December 2003, and is no longer supplying affected units. However, the company advises that a limited number of cameras produced prior to this date were released to the UK market and may encounter this problem.

The nature of the fault is as follows:
Where certain CompactFlash(tm) cards are used within particular S7000s (see below), the batteries may exhaust fully in approximately 18 hours, whether or not the camera is in use.

This fault does not occur when the S7000 is used with either an xD-Picture Card(tm) or a Microdrive(tm), nor does it occur in any other Fujifilm products that offer a CompactFlash(tm) storage facility, such as the FinePix S2 Pro, S602, S602 Pro or M603.

Cameras with serial numbers above 34L60001 (inclusive) were produced after 15 December 2003 and therefore will definitely not experience this battery drain problem.

In the short term, the problem can be avoided by unloading then re-loading the batteries just after the camera is switched off. The camera's power supply will then perform normally.

Fujifilm is offering a priority replacement of the part / camera on affected units. Naturally, this service is free and prioritised, and the camera will be picked up and returned by Fujifilm. Customers can telephone 01234 245383 or email fujitec@fuji.co.uk to arrange collection of the camera.

In addition, Fujifilm will be pleased to carry out an assessment on any cameras purchased outside the UK, providing that the user is resident in the UK.

Explanation of power supply depletion
Some CompactFlash(tm) cards incorporate a large capacity condenser in the card. When the camera is switched off, the camera automatically discharges the condenser, but cannot fully discharge the large capacity condenser. The remaining charge in the card automatically switches on the internal electric circuit in the camera. Therefore, even if the camera is switched off, the battery is drained of power.

Adrian Clarke, Director of Consumer Products, Fujifilm UK, commented, "Fujifilm would like to apologise to anyone affected by this problem, but would like to assure customers that the issue has been resolved quickly. We would like to thank our customers for their continued support of our products, and should there be any cause for concern regarding the FinePix S7000 Zoom, we would encourage them to call the number quoted for more information."

so yeah, i guess you're right. mine may have problem. the problem is i bought it 2nd hand last year.

I use it with my EVF. Well, I am glad my camera doesn't suffer the problem you have. Maybe yours is amongst the first batch whereas mine is later. Anyway, thumbs up thumbup.gif for another FUJIFILM and even better, a FinePix S7000 user.

my S7000 gallery is at http://gallery.briancyc.com

I am a fan of Fujifilm's high ISOs on the F11 and S9500, which has one of the best manual zoom rings and responsive manual focus rings around, compared to say the Panasonic FZ30.

I recently acquired a Fujifilm Digital Q1 and have modded it by removing the infrared cut filter, making it a full-fledged infrared-sensitive camera. I wish I knew someone in the business of making cut glass though, because it is short-sighted now; from having a macro range of 60-120cm, its default range is now that, and it cannot focus on infinity! (It's a fixed focus camera, F3.5, ISO100-200, 1/15-1/2000.) The default non-macro mode allows flash, and the flash gives decent macro-range infrared lighting!

It didn't support my colleague's 1GB xD card. sad.gif

Fast shutter speed infrared!

Mixed mode (without developed, overexposed negatives, so natural light + infrared):
http://www.glaringnotebook.com/images/IMAG0156.JPG

Purely infrared (two layers of negatives, but an R72 filter will work too):
http://www.glaringnotebook.com/images/IMAG0165.JPG

Most of the time, it will get that nice purplish Canon infrared tone; however, sometimes, it may appear to have custom white balance to the leaves when nothing was set. (Refer to first infrared picture.)

EXIF data is there in the files too.

I would, but I haven't got my xD card.

So it's just:

Fujifilm Digital Q1 (internal 8MB) with 2 2300mAh GP batteries.
