Hi all,
I was recently invited for an interview with CIMB for this Complete Banker Programme, and the interview is this Friday. Is anybody familiar with this programme?

Is it a good programme for a fresh graduate?

What should I do to prepare myself for the interview? Will there be technical questions asked?

How much is the pay?

If I passed the interview, should I go for it?

It would really help if you guys could provide some answer here... thank you. smile.gif

Yea you should definitely go for it! It's one of the best local banking associate program for fresh graduates.

If i'm not mistaken pay is around 3.5k awaiting successful candidates?

It's not easy to get in because many candidates also eyeing for it, interview and assessment should be rigorous, there are a few stages of assessment before the final batch of interviewees get accepted. I also heard from a friend that those completed the programme will not necessary be confirmed permanent staff, depends on performance.

Good luck!!! thumbup.gif

I've been reading around in the forum that the programme is really demanding (long working hours), how true is it?

Also, any idea how the interview is going to be like? What kind of preparations do I need to do first? smile.gif

I seriously have no idea about the assessments, maybe other forumers will be in to advice later.

I have a relative working in CIMB Investments and told me working hours could be long, even managers normally finish work at about 8-9pm. Well, if they can pay you such wage for freshie, you should be prepared mentally to handle the workload and expectations?

I think the Complete Banker Program is the feeder program for future bankers to be placed in CF, Treasury and IB.

Are you a graduate in commerce/finance/banking/accounting?

First of all, where is your interview? Because there are 2 streams for this program, and your interview location determines which stream it is in.

You won't get asked technical questions, they'll all be fit questions, and sometimes they'll ask you what you know about the bank.

Oh I see. Well according to my email the interview is at Menara Bumiputera-Commerce, I think it's the one near Sogo. What stream would that be?

You will be interviewed for the consumer banking stream. I've already given you tips in my above post. Speak confidently, with good English.

guess they increase the starting pay now.

anyway, I turned down their interview offer after I got a direct-hire position from another IB. that's the figure the HR lady gave me over the phone.

Back in 2009, the offer that I received was rm3k. However, if you leave the programme midway, you will have to pay back a certain percentage of your salary.
Had to write an essay before a one on one interview, which was fairly straightforward. Nothing too technical probably because I was from an engineering background smile.gif

Direct hire to a specific division, the salary is lower, don't ask me why I have no idea. My friend got an offer around rm2.8k

TCB is higher, I can confirm it's 3.5-3.7k. My friend had both offers.

I've registered in October, a week after that called for interview at Jalan Semantan.

1Hr 30Min. 1Hr to fill up form and write essay. 30Min is interview (normal chit chat)

One day later, received an email, asking to sit for online IQ test.

4 days, received email that I wasn't successfull. perhaps my IQ is too low tongue.gif
2 weeks after that, received another email saying that I'm not successful again.

There's four stage, interview, online stage, present something then finally with some HR boss. Then only placement.

IMO I believe that its better to apply closer to your graduation or after.
And choosing is possible, but I've read around here they say it depends on the availability of the position.
I.e, if I.B is full they might put you in consumer.

Correct me if I'm wrong smile.gif as I have only graduated recently and have yet to work.

I interviewed in October too for CIMB's TCB and the October's recruitment was mainly geared to the investment banking side. In the first interview, I was interviewed by this kind person called Carrolyn and I stated main interest: ECM. Then after a few days I did some IQ test which I found really easy. Later on, in the 3rd stage was the business presentation. I did pretty well, basing my entire presentation on hard economics facts like parochial efficiency, Kuznet's curve etc. to answer the question but the HR fellas weren't impressed(not Carrolyn) and I think they wanted a more 'humane' qualitative response. I was bashed on my liberal arts background constantly. Eventually I was rejected of course (but I am not giving up and I will continue to learn and try until I get into IB!) and they later called me again to invite me for the December TCB interview which is only for the commercial side but I am not really interested in being a cb. Good luck to everyone interviewing for the coming TCB interviews, it will be way easier to get in now because it is not IB intake so cheers and all the best smile.gif

I'm curious about the business presentation part. Are we given a topic beforehand so that we're able to prepare or it's more like an on the spot presentation?

Hi all,

I had applied for TCB yesterday. I had been requested to do an online assessment and complete personal statement.

Is it the first round of the TCB's selection?

What should I prepare after I had completed the online assessment?

Your help is highly appreciated. =)

nope, only if your cv and personal statement made the cut, then hr will contact you for a short phone interview.

the next stage would be a panel interview, then an assessment centre

nope, only if your cv and personal statement made the cut, then hr will contact you for a short phone interview.

the next stage would be a panel interview, then an assessment centre
*
What I went through so far:

1. Online application through CIMB website, attached CV and answered a few questions.

2. Received email to do online assessment and submit personal statement.

Would everyone who submitted their application through the website be required to do the online assessment? Or just selected applicants?

Most likely everyone has to do the test. Oh, it took them 5 weeks to contact me after I did the test.

I only did the phone screening interview. I just realize the recruitment might be different cause I'm actually not in malaysia hence all my interviews are virtual.

HR told me I have to be back in end of July to do the assessment centre but sadly I'm can't.

I passed the psychometric test, passed the phone screening.

And tmrw will be the 3rd stage if it goes on that order?

I guess the last stage will be the assessment centre then.. which will be on the end of July?

Man. I hate long winded interview process. Sigh..

About 3 days after the phone interview they called me again for a 1 to 1 session at CIMB HQ.

After you passed, they will call you again for the assessment centre. Take them about 3 days as well.

Me for example, I went for the 1 to 1 interview on Tuesday and this morning they've reached out to me inviting me for the assessment centre.

The interview was very casual. Nothing to worry about.

Good luck!

Firstly, congratulations! I've got a panel interview with them this Friday and I was wondering if they clarified which stream the end position will be in - e.g. Investment Banking, Consumer Banking, Asset Management - during the interview? Also, in your opinion, was the interview more behavioural-/competency-based (getting to know you and your experience/skills/cultural fit) or did they also ask a few technical banking/finance questions? Slightly nervous as the HR lady said that the interview would typically last for an hour!

No idea about about the end position since they essentially revamped the whole entire programme.

From what I've heard and discussed with the interviewers. They revamped it in a good way, not the other way around. So no worries.

About the interview, no technical questions were asked. Mostly about yourself. But it really depends on who is interviewing you.

The interview was very casual. Relax, chill and dont put unnecessary pressure on yourself.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for the tips, the interview was a breeze notworthy.gif and I've just received a call saying I got through to the assessment centre next week! Which day are you allocated to? I tried to press for details about the AC but not sure why they're being secretive about it (similar to how they sprung a written exercise on us prior to the interview). So far, I know that there will be an individual presentation and a group task (like most ACs) - did they tell you anything else?

I got a phone interview with them last week. Have not heard back yet. Not sure if I still stand a chance to proceed to next round.

First phone interview was a month after my application.

Anyone knows what's the hiring process for the program now?

I actually submitted the application for the TCB about a month, I got invited for the online assessment, but still patiently waiting for their call. Does anyone know what number they use to call? Coz I am using Truecaller and usually don't pick up any number that is marked as spam which I got a lot recently, I am afraid if and only if their number is marked as spam, appreciated if anyone can help with this.

The intake is on 1st April. I asked during phone interview. I did asked about the flow. I think it is Online Assessment > Phone Interview > F2F interview > another assessment but at centre (this one I might be wrong)

Unfortunately i didnt save the number that called me. But if I'm correct, the selection for this intake closed at the end of December. So if you did the assessment in Jan maybe your time table is different.

Sent in my application and did the online assessment a month ago. Received a phone interview right after a month. Let's say if i make it to F2F interview, is the session gears towards behavioral or there will be a mixture of technical questions be asked as well?. The english essay and business presentation will be conducted during the assessment centre?

I actually did receive their email on Dec which told me that they will notify my application status within December 2018. But until now, there is no any updates from their team.
So does it mean I am being eliminated in the first stage or they haven't finished the screening process?

During my phone interview, the HR stated that they would email the result to me wthin 2 weeks if i got through to the next stage. Im not particularly sure if they would email to unsuccessful applicant too. They are busy filtering and assessing candidates for the early april intake. If it stretched beyond the stipulated time i guess it is a fail.

Did the interview tis morning. I did ok but guess i kinda flunked it. Had weak justification for some details in the CV when being asked. I was asked bout the details of the employer project which i have done involving innovative recommendation for a company. The interviewer begin to drill into the details of the innovation, then question on the feasibility and the outcome. Could not justify in positive ways since i did not produce any WOW ideas in the project and i included it in my CV so yeah..

Pass to last stage or not tis is definitely a good experience. Tips to other candidafe, know your CV well as most of the questions will be focusing on you and your experience in life.

Congrats bro. I didn't receive any email as i already expected the result during the IV day. To me it doesn't seems like a casual chat at all.

It started of casually with the standard question 'tell me about yourself'. Like usual, I talk bout the education and work experience. Then, the moment i said equity research is my motivation from switching work industry, the whole mood starts to get serious. They questioned on my reasoning but at the end they don't buy it. I knew what the job responsibility entails in general, i have clear direction and being ambitious bout it, but to them they're finding people who're willing to take up any role. Welp that's the first blow to my chance.

Interviewers were not impressed at my knowledge either which i did mention about the current banking trend, fintech, cimb innovation, etc etc. They switch the focus to my employer project experience and that ends everything. Every single ideas in the project are being challenged. List out as many pros and cons of that particular idea. Why didn't your idea make it have you thought about it? Which one is your most WOW idea? Would you implement this idea?. It was a project completed two years ago. I admit that it's too general and don't carry the WOW element to be implemented in the business process. They shot these ideas down till the end and left me with no words because from the starts the interviewers already thought that the ideas are dull.

Overall, i felt like I'm sitting for a test and constantly being challenged for sharing my direction and past experience. At one moment i was brought back to that particular project's presentation day. I came unprepared for this question and there's no way to give generic answer. I also didn't prepare to say something like 'I would very much love to work with CIMB because it's one of the largest bank in ASEAN, it won this and that rewards...".

Congrats! Hope all goes well to you.

@Beanster Wait for a few more days and see what happens. Sometimes they take two weeks to respond.

By the way, does anyone what is the updated TCB remuneration package? It's supposedly very competitive.

It was not too bad smile.gif hope to get through haha. There was a solo presentation and then a group presentation. There wasnt alot of numbers but you could use the calculator to make certain assumptions like ratios and customer adoption rates, etc. I didnt use the calculator but instead focusing on more concepts and explanations smile.gif

Hi all,

I just completed the assessment test just now recently. I'm not sure whether my performance was good or above average or not. Did you all answer all the questions in the assessment test with minimal error in order to be qualified for the next round?

It is fairly difficult and is one of the most notable program for a local but regional bank. My friend told me in their latest batch 48 or 7 (not sure which), its less than 20.

But the harder it is, the more rewarding the journey. Also, if you dont mind do also consider international banks like Citibank, HSBC etc which offers similar level of exposure

Used to be 4 intakes. Now only 2. Not sure how many they take nowadays. But if I’m correct it is less than 20 people per intake. There’s a number of MA programme even Maybank has one.

Hey all.

My apologies if this question redundant, but can any of you share something about the online assessment? They didn't provide anything on the duration, what to be expected and stuff.

Is it some kind of aptitude test or personality test? Anything else need to be prepared? Thanks

Not all the questions, I ran out of time for some of it. Do you think it's a must to complete all the questions to get selected? I'm very nervous. I hope we make it to the next stage. The interview and assessment stage will be held from 24-27 August ( as per website), hope we get a positive email from them before 24th August.

I'm not sure how they're going to evaluate the online assessment. But hopefully we'll proceed to the next stage. I think before (24-27 August/ Stage 4), we'll receive an invitation for a digital interview (Stage 3) first. BTW if any of us receive updates or receive new email from them, let's inform each other!

Sure! We’ll keep each other informed.

Anyone has received an interview invitation for stage 3 (digital interview session) or has gone through stage 3?

I completed the online assessment at 4/8 and did not receive any follow-up email or call since then.

I have friends in Batch 48 (2018 intake)

Salary quoted is 5k

If you read through the past entries on this same thread, you can confirm it

But I heard they are freezing hiring

Hi, are you applying for CIMB Malaysia?
If yes then feel free to connect me at LinkedIn for further discussion because I also applied for the TCB Programme!

Anyone has gone through the stage 3 interview(digital interview session)? I did not receive any reply or any rejection email from CIMB since August, after completing the online assessment.
