Hi bros,

Noob here.

I plan to get this router to replace the existing one provided by TM UNifi. Problem is due to the signal is too weak when I tried to use my tablet or phone in my room. It is located in the living room, and my room is at the other end.
So, can I actually just remove the TM provided device, and replace it with this one?

Can anyone provide the setup steps or things to consider before getting this router?
Thanks.

this is a good router, imo. i bought it 2 months back, very happy. strength and coverage very good for 2 storey house incl all corners.

.. direct replacement of the unifi router, nothing else.
.. put the cables back same way - one of the ports is for hypptv, can't use others.
.. u need to call unifi to get password - this not the same one as yr wifi password.
.. installation, watch this video first:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7VUBSFy_es
.. if buying at shop, the guy there can pre-install everything for u incl password if u hv it.

not so difficult to install. enjoy more stable and stronger signals. wink.gif

I'm currently using the same router, so far no issues yet, keep fingers crossed.

But I did change some wireless settings on first use. Just wanna find out from you guys, what did you set for the following?

Which channel did you set? Auto? or from 1 to 11?
Channel Width: Auto/20 MHz/40 MHz?
Did you leave the Wireless Scheduler (in the Professional tab) enabled, or disabled it?

i m using this router. all good, no problem for ethernet or wifi - pc, androidtv, ipad, mobile phone.

my settings all default, i think. unless the shop set it so quickly i did not notice...

Guys, i may be out of topic, but hope to get some assistance. i have the ASUS RT-N14UHP (3 antenna) - 3 of them. just replaced one with the Unifi modem. it's so easy and works flawlessly speed and better coverage.

My issue is the report. My management is asking 'how many wifi's are connected' ? simple ques indeed, i went to Wireless log under system log, it shows a whole list of log file.. but hard for me know which is 'currently connected to wifi'...

anyone tried to see that log before?
the old D-link router shows the wifi client connected, easy just take the figure and put in report tongue.gif
*
go to general/network map/clients/client status/refresh - only current active ones will be shown.

like to make a note here about this asus rt n12hp router...

today, i shutdown everything incl unifi modem and asus router to replace a power panel .

when i start them up again, the modem showed no signs of connecting anything as seen with the lights.

tried 3 times power down n up, no result.

then i put back the old unifi router, everything connected.

lastly, with modem still on, shut down the old router, replace with asus, power it up, all is ok.

anyone has an explanation for this? hmm.gif

means i mustn't junk the old router yet! blush.gif

What is the brand/model of your old router?

Mine is the Innatech RG4332.

I better not throw it away just in case.  biggrin.gif
*
shud keep it, i suppose.

mine is dlink dir615, one of the oldest models, i think.

Installed Unifi last month. But the wifi coverage suck big time.....
Modern and router are at the family hall on 1st floor. Signal lost in the room and ground floor.
TM net came fixed but still the same. TM knew about this issue, lots of new users are facing the same problem with the new router RG4332.

Which one should i go for? RT N14UHP or RT N12HP?
*
for 2 storey houses, no need big and costly ones, ethernet or wifi.
the tm router is ok but not good enough if you stretch it.
consider rt n12hp - i changed to this 3 months ago. get unifi's full speed all the time. as i write , torrenting 1.1 MBps. wifi smile.gif
the 14uhp has the advantage of 5ghz option (good for highrise plenty wifi users crowding) and usb port for printer, downlds, etc... i think.
what's so difficult to set up? 5 min job!

good info and video presentation. Am going to sign up for maxis fiber soon, do you reckon this would be a good model to begin with? or should i stick with the current one coming with subscription?
*
this model works well for unifi incl voip and hypptv.

not sure, so i think u shud check out the main asus thread and ask if it works with maxis fiber, voip and astro iptv.

don't buy something that isn't compatible!

Noob here, sorry to ask whats the different between 2.4 ghz and 5ghz? Any pros and cons?
*
2.4 ghz is the normal frequency used for wifi. becos it is common, in highrise, u get a lot of people in neighboring units on same floor, upper floor, lower floor using it. that causes wifi congestion, even for all 10 or 14 channels available.

with another freq 5ghz, u get away from them. problem is higher freq comes with higher attenuation meaning power loss, so u should want a higher power dual band if u really want 5ghz. otherwise, it is only good for short distances.

for houses, less neighbors using wifi, 2.4ghz is good, wider enough coverage without congestion using a decent wireless router.

Hi guys, just want to ask something. I've just used Asus RT-N12HP as my main router changing the old router D-link DIR-615 that was provided by TM Unifi, my question is, Im subscribed for the 5Mbps and by using rt-n12hp, my wireless signal speed is just 144Mbits, is the speed is good enough or it should be more? Plus is there other tweak to increase the signal range in the setting menu? My room is just <33feet away from the router with 3 layers wall (a single storey house, the router is at living room while my room is near to the kitchen at the back).
Thank you guys
*
how do u measure yr wifi speed n coverage? what was speed using ethernet?

how does new router performance compared to old one?

for houses, that distance, wifi or ethernet should be about the same, i.e. close to theoretical max 5mbps or 0.625MBps.

I just simply measure with network utilities using Mac and by using ethernet I get 100mbits only (weird) and yes I wonder its not the same with witeless connection. Btw I wonder why my coverage, using iphone, didnt get full bar and sometime the signal drop one bar?

Thank you mate for the info
*
something is not right with the speed u get since both ethernet n wifi speeds are low.
do u remember if the speeds for same devices were about the same with old unifi router?
if yes, then we know its not due to router but could be yr modem or incoming.
if modem is a strong suspect, u need to get unifi people to come test, verify n change it out.

my experience, this asus router will improve overall performance with better stability, wider coverage and gets u closer to max speed.

try using a windows pc to test it again. i do not know if it makes a difference with mac/iphone but i do observe my ipad is slower compared to pc and androids. need others to explain if that is true, need some tweaking in settings somewhere?

Anyone with 50mb down and 20mb up unifi package using this router? My speedtest by using wifi only goes up to 30mb down and 20mb up. however if i use LAN cable, i get 50mb down and 20mb up.

I've tried resetting, update firmware, disable QoS, change wifi channel also no use. Anyone has the same problem?
*
i was using this router, but is rtn12hp_b1.

50mbps unifi, full speed wifi 50ft 2.4ghz.

no need change any setting, just default.

of course, in poor spots with too much obstruction, can get only 20-30mbps.

if u can't do anything about yr device location, u can change to a dual band router, add a dual band wifi adaptor (for pc/laptop), use 5ghz.

this 5ghz is great for up to 55ft wifi, beyond which it can't go much further, will lose speed quickly.

if u describe yr type of home, distances, devices... in detail.. others can comment and help u further.
