Well I'm thinking that this price is already the lowered price as the parts are already very old... and new ones about to come in. New ones will surely be more expensive than this. But I don't know if Haswell is worth the wait (so far we had the Nehalem, then Sandy Bridge Ivy Bridge what also not very much improvement).

QUOTE(nexus2238 @ May 27 2013, 03:34 PM)
Specs not that old lah tongue.gif
Samsung 840 SSD just get released for < 1 year.
AMD HD 7970M is still the top mobile GPU from AMD until the HD 8970M come into the market tongue.gif
Ivy bridge is still the "current" gen CPU laugh.gif

For this spec, the whole Haswell thing is more relevant to you in terms of energy usage profile.
Even though the IGPU (the gaming laptop most likely will get CPU with Iris Pro Intel 5200 IGPU) may not be relevant in gaming laptop, but if AMD Enduro do its job, there will be lots of apps that can stay with the more power efficient Intel 5200, which help to extend battery performance further.

If the specs is good enough for your usage requirement, by all means go for it. It is a powerful setupĀ  rclxms.gif
*
actually, it is a disappointment when AMD claims that the HD8970M is 7.5% better than GTX680M on APU system. except if they wield HD8990M as a weapon, or they wield it with Intel haswell chips.

Maybe more to processing i guess..
Because my sister asked me to check any suitable laptop for her.

then the Lenovo Z480 will be better. it comes with core i7 and quite light.

AMD's competition Nvidia GPU at the top end has been about price/performance for a while.
Now that AMD has revealed its card on HD 8970M, just wait for Nvidia to show us its GTX780M laugh.gif

Anyway, HD 7970M / 8970M are powerful GPU, good enough for lots of people  rclxms.gif

yeah, just Enduro is quite buggy. now it can be turned off, so it isnt a problem with gaming now.

Looks like can negotiate price or wait for price drop. Since I'm not really in a hurry my current laptop still works just a bit slow.

I think within a week the Australian site already provided HD 7970 as base (before they were offering only 670 or 675 at the same price).

Quad core worth it? Price wise not much higher but performance? Vs heat?
*
if you are just into gaming, save back the bucks you are throwing for quad core. you are just spending the bucks for wastage and extra heat. icon_rolleyes.gif

But after the SSD I'm having the same issue as before... that is it feels like the HDD is slow, so stuff and programs also running slow even tho all installed on the SSD. I can tell sometimes when I open videos and they lag or crash, it's cos the HDD was lagging badly. Need to wait a while and it "recovers".

Should I stop storing files on the HDD? I have basically stored all my files on the 450GB 7200RPM HDD and it is full.

Maybe the HDD is broken?
*
have you gone thru lots of read and write process? signs of lags and crash when running programs shows that the HDD (or SSD) is aging.

Raymond you are right. iinm, only Civ5 and Crysis 3 is using quad core now. Just hope more games will utilise quad core.
For example, Skyrim is actually very CPU intensive, but it could only utilise 2 core  doh.gif iinm, StarCraft 2 as well  doh.gif
*
perhaps GTA 5 and watch dogs will be ultilising quad core. for me, getting quad core is just a wastage at the moment.

I wanna ask about acer laptop product? is it an okay product? because I heard a lot of heating problems on it and people around me have been breaking their acer laptops... but for some reason, i just think it was their fault.. rclxub.gif

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ May 27 2013, 08:31 PM)
Recent Acer products seemed pretty okay already hmm.gif
Just try not to expect too much from them if you are going for the most budget models (which applies for all brands) nod.gif
*
if peoples were to complain that it was their sh*tty build quality, i would just laugh at them. these peoples doesnt get the knowledge of getting a lemon/touch wood unit, which is a result from their luck. my father had use an acer for a year, and this laptop has passed to me during my 1st year at junior high. even after i got an alienware at my 1st year senior high, the laptop is still working great, and it is aged 4 years old by the time.

ah, now where did i put that acer? maybe it is covered with dust now.

Haha, at the end of the day it still depends on the "line" of the notebooks la laugh.gif
Budget line ones will definitely have poorer build quality than the premium ones~
I personally don't like the Aspire V5 series... the newer hybrids seemed pretty decent though  thumbup.gif

that was a budget line laptop that my father got after his business is crippled.

One more question.. why is ASUS so freaking expensive? is it like premium prices with premium quality ah?

they are premium in quality but not in service. their products are tempting, stylish and promising too.

but im a hater for ASUS line laptops.

gaming with an ultrabook? not really recommended if you are playing for long hours. the heat will trap inside the laptop due to their thinness and will result in hardware damage. however, your choices :

we have a port in world that is called USB.

ISO image of windows is copied into a thumbdrive and installed with it. it is way more faster than DVD.

Thanks Raymontong94 & Nexus2238 for your helpful suggestions & ideas. Made me rethink my priorities a bit. I think I can run the 3D CAD software OK with a decent graphics card & a load of RAM purchased separately.

Saw a Toshiba U940-1001X, 4GB RAM, 640GB HDD+32GB SSD (hybrid?), NVIDIA GT630M (2GB), 14" screen, Intel i5, W8, for RM2300.

Any opinion on this model or alternatives you would recommend?

Lenovo Z400, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2099, 4GB, 1TB, W8; 2 years warranty; colors: chocolate

best suggested is Lenovo Z400 among the all.
