Hello guys, I have 2 daughters in college now, going to get them notebooks during the IT fair in Mid Valley this weekend.  I would need your best advise as I need to buy 2 units.
My considerations:
1. budget around rm 2,000 each
2. No need touch screen
3. Windows OS
4. Hopefully thin and light

Cheers!!

Dell Inspiron 14-3421, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT625M@RM1649[1.99kg], Ubuntu, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), 6-cell; W8SL@RM1699
Dell Vostro 5460, i3-3120M + HD 4000@RM1,549[1.54kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04, 3 cell; W8SL@RM1,749

they dont play games, right? if they dont, it is advisable to get the Vostro 5460. it is very thin and light. use the remaining money and extend their warranty to 3 years. icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi again guys.
Okay so i'm buying a y500 SLI soon and i would also like to install a 128GB mSATA SSD in it.
However i asked the shop retailer who's selling me the laptop about the mSATA SSD and they don't have any idea about it.
I was actually planning to buy it from them and asked them to install the OS into the SSD for me but i dont think it's going to happen.
Where can i buy a 128gb mSATA SSD and can I do the setup myself?
*
any shops do sell 128GB mSATA, just they might sell different brands or different pricing.

you can try this for clean install on your mSATA.

Hey guys, I am going to buy a new laptop soon and require some comment or recommendation on which laptop should I purchase.
My main usage of the new laptop will be quite simple, watching movie, play some games, do uni assignment.
Some spec that I'm looking for will be :

i5 core(3rd gen)
6 gb or above RAM
average graphic card
comes with numpad
hd screen with a good resolution
and a budget of around 2.2 k MYR

Windows 8 or windows 7? which is better

Thx a lot in advance !      notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif

I don't really understand how it works. Do i need to purchase the retail version of windows 8 again in order to install it in the mSATA SSD? Since the OS is originally pre-installed in y500's HDD.
*
no. you just need to download the iso (from any torrent sites) and you can install it. the license key is embedded into your UEFI, so you dont need to worry it will bump you to re-register your windows 8 again.

Y400 is 14 inch, Y500 is full HD 15 inch. the cooling in Y500 is way more better than Y400, due to larger space inside the laptop.

Buy or don't buy? Price = RM4800

Clevo P150EM
Samsung 840 SSD
1080p 95% Gamut Gloss LCD
AMD 7970M 2GB GDDR5
i5-3230M 2.6GHz
16GB RAM
Windows 7
3.1 kg

Can add i7 quad core for RM300 extra, worth it? Most people don't use quad anyway and it's extra heat for nothing right?

Wait for Haswell? 2 months? Not sure how long.

Same deal with Illegear, but without Windows 7 and only the matte screen and 4GB RAM, costs RM5000.

RM4800 for the specs provided? just grab it. icon_rolleyes.gif

1. Any brand but prefer Asus brand as they have 2 years international warranty
2. Budget around RM2000 more or less
3. I need responsive fast, long last battery, presentation, because travel/outdoor mostly, so I assume ultrabook type?
4. I already have 1 laptop model in my mine, because yesterday I accompany my friend went to Sunway Pyramid bought a new Asus Vivobook S400
5. Screen size should be 14" above

Side question: where to get anti-finger print screen protector for the model I mentioned above?
*
Lenovo does come with international warranty too. for ASUS, you have to deal with extremely poor service (worldwide known) except if you are traveling to Taiwan. the warranty service for every brands varies in different countries.
