First off I am a Noob in Dota. I have only been playing it for a couple a months on and off. But even so I have only managed to play a handful of heroes and only been good at 2-3 heroes at that (i.e. highest kills for a carry/gank hero or clears towers within minutes). even when i watch the Navi vs iG game it seems to me they kept playing the same heroes in all the games.

so i am wondering how many heroes you guys know to play absolutely well with? is it even realistic to master all heroes within Dota?

lol... its only when u play with a permanent team competitively then u use the same heroes and strategy.. but they normally have more than one strategy... biggrin.gif

You need alot more training as 2/3months old is still very young dota player..

i've played dota since 5.84c, which was 2002 till today.. about 10 years.. and i can play all heroes and i'm all rounder.. but prefer carry/tank

so choose the type of heroes u like and master all of them...

just keep playing random la..am not pro though.. but randomly pick at least i know to play all hero. But its true, u will master a few heroes only..the one that really pro, nice farm, nice skill. Play long enough, master all heroes. But usually with the same characteristic...my housemate plays around 8-9 years already..master only at hard carry..support and initiator failed.

Learn to use all, but master a few. At very least you'll know all the heroes spells/skills that can be use as advantage to you or disadvantage to your opponents.

Be good at your self mechanic,
-Map awareness
-Efficiency of getting last hits/denies ( earning gold )
-Maximising whats given, eg. Pulling,Double Pulling
-Doing whats right at certain situation, knowing how to manipulate the game
-Be able to come out with new meta, coming out with skills/ganks/item builds that people will not expect, screw their mindset
-Timing for everything, camp spawn, block camp, pulling, roshan spawn
-More ! Everything !

Played since 5.84c.

Try looking at what roles suits you and go that way.

I prefer being a carry last time but changed to a semi-carry nowadays due to the supporters you will get from pub games is minimum and nearly all hard-carries are nerfed.

so basics aside like last hitting, creep block etc and lets say you are forming a team for (lets be modest) malaysian champ... USD50k on the line (again... lets say only). you obviously want to play only the few heroes that you are absolutely confident in or know you are good at using. your captain ask you "dude which heroes can you play?" i am sure you will answer "this and that hero, total up XX number of hero give me any day I trash the opponent for you". So what is that XX number for you?

If you are playing pub game, try to train up at least 1 hero from each type of hero. Then see what are the heroes chosen by your teammate, then choose a hero that suit the situation.
For example, if your team already have 2 carry and 2 supporter, you would probably choose a tanker.

Play with only those you feel you can learn from. I cannot stress how important it is not to party with people who are lesser skilled than you, or propagate bad playing habits such as a lack of map awareness etc. Make it a point to add up players who you feel are good, and don't be afraid to solo queue, you learn quite a bit from playing with strangers.

For newbie or beginners players , here some of the advice I can give .

1.) Start of with 3 hero that you wish to master and practice it often .
2.) Must know the hero in terms of skills and role that you choose . ( You cant expect a support hero like wisp to kill , do you ? hmm.gif )
3.) Once you understand your roles , play it well . Eg. If you are a tanker , always go front . If you a supporter , always stick to your carry . Etc ...
4.) Have some map awareness and constant report . ( Even sometimes mistake report is ok but dont over do it as it will make your team have more alert )
5.) Do not feed .
6.) Help out in most of the ganks .
7.) Do not hesitate too long especially when you carry .
8.) Never purposely ks other people target especially carry target unless they cant make it .

Of course there is more I can give but you will learn more when you got experience .

play with ai, every hero at least twice.

so that you know what their skill, advantage, and disadvantage.

its useful when enemy pick any hero, you can predict what they can do at least.

I could play any heroes in the chart. Based on my 10 years of experience, a pro or noob does not defined by kill death assist ratio or his/her gold per min farming.

A pro carry/support usually :

1. Have good map awareness. Know who and which lanes are missing.
2. Could predict what will happen and where will the fight be. This is important for both carry and support. A carry do need to farm but a chance to kill should never be neglected.
3. Have basic/advanced knowledge of DOTA mechanisme such as creep/tower aggro, neutral stacking, rune respawn, fog of war, place of wards.
4. Know when to kill and retreat.
5. Last but not least, good last hitting and deny. The deny part is what most beginners ignore at first and end up ignore forever.

Started playing DotA since 2007, and started competitive DotA at the year 2011.

You have to know which hero to pick etc. (if you are the captain/drafter), but what you pick might be countered by other heroes as you counter other heroes as well. You don't have to master every single heroes, well you can if you want smile.gif , but just master your role and the heroes that you often play for that role..

You also gotta know the importance of your role and the important thing is winning the game and not getting yourself the most kills, items etc. For example, some supporters tend to not help that much after all as they feel that they're just supporting and it doesn't feel good something like that la smile.gif

IN MY OPINION
-------------------------

Learn it's Mechanism, about how each hero works and best suit role. make it routine, at least spend a time on one or two match! ( being Single is best )

start of with the most simple and easiest hero, Sniper !
Learn to take Last Hit, try to last kill the creep for fast cash. plan your move and watch how other team make their move. read their mind and voila! nothing is impossible !

but play with relaxing mind and ease .... because it's just a game. and you don't have to get angry over a fail teammates and such, render you end up being a CRAZY GERMAN KIDS .... you know what i mean ?

this does not define how well a person plays the hero or the game. the best players in the team are usually 2nd-4th position (semi-carry, ganker, support).

to be a good player, one must be able to backup your team mates (except if you're a carry), be alert and smart, respond to every thing quickly, and of coz, map awareness. KDA is not necessary. you can feed 0-10 yet win the game by assisting your team mates. tbh, carries are nothing w/o supporters. try not to have a mindset of 'I MUST KILL MANY' in a game. focus on your role and assist your team mates in every way possible.

hero picking wise-
1- hard carry
2- semi carry
3- ganker
4- support
5- hard support

learn to pick wisely and delegate roles properly among your friends/team. don't anyhow pick. a team of 5 supports can easily bring down a team of 5 carries.

and last but not least, play by experience, not by theory.

PS: do not judge your team mates or ever think that 'hard support' sucks, every role has their own responsibility. w/o a good support, there wont be a good and farmed up carry. and IMO, don't play so much to master heroes but master roles. if you focus too much on mastering heroes, you lose focus on supporting/carrying which leads to neglecting your team.

i have played for many years now. all these are based on my experience. smile.gif good luck and all the best.
