Success as in speculation, not success as a business.

The business Hibiscus acquired (LIME petrol) is still making losses, and they only HOPE to find and extract oil according to research. What if the charts and graphs all end up not correct, and not as much oil as expected inside? And also oil now dropping....

The Oman and UAE oilfield - has been explored since 1980's and has sold and changed hands many times until hibiscus - if so profitable why the concession kena turn around like hot stone? Until now still test drill test drill... yawn.gif

The norwegian and australia oil fields is more or less marginal field with low reserves and production (at least got production)...2nd hand field as the most productive years other people have already extracted  most of the stuff and left a little inside.

By the way all 3 oil fields have common shareholders with hibiscus  before selling to hibiscus.

Big risk if you ask me... whistling.gif
I agree. biggrin.gif

But sometimes, as you know la, people in forums very pandai in twisting every damn thing around. laugh.gif
Me and you can explain the complete crap in the SPAC business but the twisted people will be very fast hand to point out that the stock is a wonderful success. sweat.gif

I still waiting for MY stock tip. tongue.gif

QUOTE(Icehart @ Apr 17 2013, 11:41 AM)
But for big funds like EPF making money from capital appreciation is kind of hard to maintain their 6% DY for EPF members.
Unless they go for dividend stocks play.  hmm.gif

But then you got a point. Irregardless if CIMB sell and another fund manager (EPF Related) bought it's still under EPF. Essentially a right to left hand case indirectly.
The buy or sell probably a competition to see which is the better managed fund.
I can understand a bit the rational behind outsourcing to external fund managers (not saying I fully agree).

My think is like this.
Shares do not go up in a straight line.
UEM Land went from a low of around 1.70 in Sep 2012 to 2.80+ in April 2013.
Like in most 'ordinary' stock movements, the movement wasn't a straight line up.
It took two or three step up and then a step back and then continue it's two or three step up again.
One can profit from it by just holding from say 1.70 to now.
One can also profits by 'trying' to catch the up movements and consolidations. (of course many here will say, this is not advisable. tongue.gif )
Now put yourself in the EPF boards shoes.
It's holding long term, 'enjoying' the big move up.
By having the option of external fund managers, it allows the these 'terror geng' fundamangers to capture all those 'swings'.

I say this from the examination of these 3 announcements.

Sep 2012: http://www.bursamalaysia.com/market/listed...cements/1061621

Direct interest of 261,087,527 shares comprised:
1) Citigroup (EPF Board) - 210,848,794 shares
2) EPF Board - 2,772,500 shares
3) Citigroup EPF Board (AMUNDI)- 1,500,000 shares
4) Citigroup EPF Board (KIB) - 7,900,000 shares
5) Citigroup EPF (HDBS) - 5,238,000 shares
6) Citigroup EPF Board (RHB INV) - 2,319,800 shares
7) Citigroup EPF Board (AM INV) - 9,300,000 shares
8) Citigroup EPF Board (MAYBAN) - 5,100,000 shares
9) Citigroup EPF Board (ALLIANCE) - 4,000,000 shares
10) Citigroup EPF Board (NOMURA) - 3,000,000 shares
11) Citigroup EPF Board (CIMB PRI) - 6,908,433 shares
12) Citigroup EPF Board (ARIM) - 2,200,000 shares

The Form 29B dated 7 September 2012 was received by the Company on 11 September 2012.

Compare that to the announcement this month on 9 April where UEM Land was said to be selling until it is no longer a major shareholder.

http://www.bursamalaysia.com/market/listed...cements/1250793

Direct interest of 216,401,194 shares comprise:
1) Citigroup EPF Board - 195,640,294 shares
2) EPF Board - 2,772,500 shares
3) Citigroup EPF Board (KIB) - 349,000 shares
4) Citigroup EPF Board (RHB INV) - 2,319,800 shares
5) Citigroup EPF Board (AM INV) - 7,663,000 shares
6) Citigroup EPF Board (ALLIANCE) - 2,157,000 shares
7) Citigroup EPF Board (NOMURA) - 3,000,000 shares
8) Citigroup EPF Board (CIMB PRI) - 1,699,600 shares
9) Citigroup EPF Board (ARIM) - 800,000 shares

The Form 29B dated 5 April 2013 was received by the Company on 9 April 2013.

You can see EPF board shares remain the same but fundmanagers from AM INV, Alliance, CIMB PRI, ARIM have all reduced their holdings since Sep 2012.
Shares went went, these fund managers reduce their holdings. (Would I say these fund managers are wrong? tongue.gif)

Yesterday announcement where EPF was said to be buying.

http://www.bursamalaysia.com/market/listed...cements/1257809

Direct interest of 216,834,594 shares comprise:
1) Citigroup EPF Board - 195,153,494 shares
2) EPF Board - 2,772,500 shares
3) Citigroup EPF Board (KIB) - 549,000 shares
4) Citigroup EPF Board (RHB INV) - 2,319,800 shares
5) Citigroup EPF Board (AM INV) - 7,663,000 shares
6) Citigroup EPF Board (ALLIANCE) - 2,000,000 shares
7) Citigroup EPF Board (NOMURA) - 3,000,000 shares
8) Citigroup EPF Board (CIMB PRI) - 2,876,800 shares
9) Citigroup EPF Board (ARIM) - 500,000 shares

The Form 29A dated 12 April 2013 was received by the Company on 16 April 2013.

And we can see that CIMB PRI decided to buy back.
UEM Land now is 2.83. Up 2%.

IS CIMB PRI fund manager wrong to be buying back what they sold?

From the share positions, I see these external fund managers 'catching' the swings.
Is this swing trading bad?

Ah Boon, today didn't expect so many homework from u, so no need tipsy today tongue.gif

Regarding the disposal in UEMLand, previously it was one of KLCI top 30 component, later it was replace by IHH or Bumi Armada (if not mistaken), hence some of the index fund manager forced to dispose at that price.
laugh.gif laugh.gif

Fingers blister jor!

I think it is easy to criticise EPF by pointing out whenever there are news of EPF buying and selling a same stock at the same time.
Sometimes we have to take into consideration of external fund managers.

Recently EPF was made to look bad when one of the external fund managers decided to sell MISC. laugh.gif

Post #2342: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2696144/+2340#

EPF had already issued statements saying offer price was too low but when one check MISC shareholder transactions, EPF was seen selling. laugh.gif laugh.gif

This issue was mentioned in today's papers.

QUOTE
THE Employees Provident Fund (EPF) says external portfolio managers were responsible for selling down its shares in MISC Bhd below the offer price and now is probing why they did so.
.
.

Nik Affendi said via email that the EPF is following up with the fund manager concerned to ascertain the reason the shares were sold. He also said a total of 3.99 million shares were sold between March 12 and March 15.

The offer price by Petronas to buy out MISC has been seen as too low by EPF and MISC's other shareholders.

sweat.gif sweat.gif

This public forum friend.
No need to ask so direct.

Anyway, that's just a set of comments which I agree very much.
One can make good money in the market by applying good fundamental analysis in the market.

I didn't ask for the exact amount... just a rough idea because I haven't yet seen anybody making money. Losing money, a lot. The guys making big money are those who have insider information and the big boys manipulating the market.

Fundamental analysis? I was at a bank cashing out my unit trusts that haven't been earning any money for almost a decade. There was one Malay guy beside me who cursed and swore. He too was cashing out and saying goodbye to unit trusts. Isn't it true that unit trust managers are supposed to be experts in the stock market? So how come we are not even earning the same amount as putting the money in the bank and doing nothing?
The implication of that question is rather 'strange'.
Do consider the following.
The question suggests that one needs to be 'qualified' to talk about stocks.
When that happens, the suggestion is that one needs to be making money to talk stocks, which would mean that one needs to show proof before talking.
Wouldn't it be strange when this happens?
Is like saying 'Show us your portfolio before you talk'.

I believe many here are making money. smile.gif

And in regards to Unit Trust investing.
Well I think very lowly of Unit Trust managers and I would rather have my money rot in my biscuit tins (under my bed tongue.gif laugh.gif ) than put money into it.
