Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 805 with Adreno 420 GPU
http://www.gsmarena.com/qualcomm_unveils_s...u-news-7225.php ![]() Qualcomm has announced today a new generation Snapdragon 805 chipset with better 2.5GHz quad-core processor and 4K graphics. The Snapdragon 805 delivers 4K display support in addition to the 4K video recording support, which was already available on the Snapdragon 800. More interestingly, the new chipset features a brand new Adreno 420 GPU, which has 40% more processing power than the previous generation Adreno 330 chips. The latest Snapdragon 805 chipset also comes with an improved quad-core processor. The cores have a new Krait 450 architecture and have a maximum clock speed of 2.5GHz and memory bandwidth of up to 25.6GB/s. The Krait 450 is still a 32-bit processor, so we guess there is one more generation hardware to pass before Qualcomm outs 64-bit processor cores. Qualcomm has also embedded a completely new modem called Gobi 9x35. It's manufactured on a 20nm process and is smaller, more power efficient, and, of course, faster. It supports LTE Category 4, dual-band WiFi ac and even allows 4K video streaming via Wi-Fi. Finally the new Snapdragon 805 chipset incorporates a new dedicated camera processor, which will significantly increase camera speed and might even help boost image quality. It also uses the gyro sensor to stabilize the captured photos. Qualcomm is ready to mass produce the Snapdragon 805 chips and we should see them in commercial devices in the first half of next year (the first ones will probably debut at CES in January and MWC in February). The Snapdragon 805 seems like a decent upgrade over the Snapdragon 800, but we are yet to see if it will be able to dominate the competition the way its predecessor did. |

qualcomm probably gonna transition to 64bit late 2014, by that time samsung already has a head start of 6month?
the question is when will android make the transition 64bit? if samsung can push the hardware to 64bit to large enough crowd, we'll probably seing android 64bit earliest is 2nd half of 2014? just my speculation |

8-core A15 Allwinner A80 Octa could be a Snadpragon 800 slayer!
http://www.gizchina.com/2013/11/22/8-core-...gon-800-slayer/ ![]() Chinese tech doesn’t rest with details of a new 8-core processor revealed from Chinese chip maker Allwinner. The big news this week was the launch of the 8-core MT6592 processor from Taiwanese company Mediatek, but they aren’t the only ones to open up the octa-core market as Chinese brand Allwinner also released details of it’s chip. Where as the Mediatek processor runs 8 x A7 Cortex cores the Allwinner A80 Octa will boast 8 x A15 cores plus a either a Mail-T6XX or Mali-T7XX GPU! Benchmarks haven’t been released but there is talk of this chipset actually outperforming Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 SoC! The Allwinnner A80 is currently slated as a tablet specific chipset, but this could change if more domestic brands take interest in the tech. |

Next generation Huawei Hisilicon H3V3 SoC supports 4G LTE
http://www.gizchina.com/2013/12/21/next-ge...upports-4g-lte/ ![]() Huawei have been making some very significant waves in the Chinese phone market recently and the swell continues as the company has announced it’s Hisilicon H3V3 processor packs 4G LTE support. This past few months has seen Huawei launch the stunning Ascend P6, and Xiaomi rivalling Honor 3C and 3X, for their next trick Huawei are going 4G LTE on us! Huawei have been developing their own processors for some time. The current chip manufactured under the Hisilicon brand is a quad-core K3V2 chipset however a successor is just a few weeks away. According to reports the Huawei Hisilicon K3V3 will launch early in 2014 and will feature all the latest flagship features rival chip makers are offering. This means the SoC will be an 8-core chipset with 4G LTE (Cat 6) support! In addition Huawei are also working on developing a successor to 4G LTE too. Huawei plan to invest more than $600 million developing 5G data connections but we won’t be seeing them until 2020. This post has been edited by wkkm007: Dec 22 2013, 04:47 PM |

Mediatek confirms LTE chip on the way along with new Cortex A12 chip
http://www.gizchina.com/2013/10/10/mediate...ortex-a12-chip/ Mediatek have gone on the record to confirm that they have LTE baseband support in the works and a processor will launch early next year. The confirmation comes just days after Mediatek and ARM signed a deal to use ARM’s Cortex A50 44 bit architecture in next generation chips, however it is too late in the development cycle to hope the new LTE SoC will be running on this. Instead MTK are looking at the low-end market for their new 4G LTE chip and are more concerned about price at this moment than the overall performance of their solution. Also in the works is a Cortex A12 based processor aimed at a mid 2014 launch. This chips will boast up to 40% better battery efficiently as well as improved support for big.LITTLE switching. Next generation Mediatek processor to use ARM Cortex-A50 64-bit processors and Mali GPU’s http://www.gizchina.com/2013/10/08/mediatek-arm-cortex-a50/ MediaTek and ARM have signed a deal allowing the Taiwanese chip maker to use ARM’s Cortex A50 processors and ARM Mali Graphics chips. ARM have signed a deal with MediaTek allowing the up and coming processor manufacturer to use semiconductor IP for ARM Cortex A50 series processors and ARM Mali graphics. The ARM Coretex-A57 and A53 technology which Mediatek now have the rights to use supports the ARMv8-A Architecture with wither 64-bit and 32-bit execution. These processors will bring better performance to Android smartphones and tablets which remaining compatible with the current 32-bit ecosystem allowing manufacturers to simply update to the new SoC tech. As Mediatek are on the verge of releasing their new 8-core MT6592 and 4G LTE processors we don’t expect the new ARM deal to make it’s way in to Chinese phones until the 2nd quarter of next year. |

![]() http://www.lowyat.net/2014/02/arm-unveils-...from-cortex-a9/ ARM Unveils Latest Cortex-A17 Mobile Processor; Adds 60% Performance Boost from Cortex-A9 ARM has unveiled the latest Cortex-A17 processor that promises to be the “most efficient mid-range solution” aimed at mid-range smartphones and smart TVs. These processors, scalable up to four cores, promise a performance improvement of 60% from the older and widely-used Cortex-A7 chipsets. The 28nm Cortex-A17 processors also leverage on ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture, combining four Cortex-A17 processors with four Cortex-A7 processors, and can operate on frequencies above 2GHz. The Cortex-A17 processor is also paired with a Mali-T720 GPU, which supports OpenGL ES 3.0 for accelerated 3D graphics rendering. With a vastly improved mid-range offering over the current Cortex-A7 processor running on most mid-and-lower-end Android smartphones, the Cortex-A17 processor should enable more competitive mid-range smartphones, especially among the Chinese manufacturers. Don’t expect these chips to appear anytime soon, though: the ARM Cortex-A17 processors are likely to only make an appearance in 2015. |
