just like how TERA used to be before they change it to free to play.
they should just made it pure pay to play like WoW if they really want subscription based business model. like this not only it will be pay to play but might also be pay to win. |

That was my last 2nd and last pay to play i played (1st is RO). Good old day when playing game sponsored by MARA (pls do not follow me What i meant that it should be like that vanilla WoW. Saying that other games also pay to win doesnt help change the fact that the game is pay to win. |

Saying that other games also pay to win doesnt help change the fact that the game is pay to win. And when I read the page , they are completely irrelevant to what you were talking about . Read the whole F.A.Q again , they basically are going introduce 2 mode , Pay-2-play & Play-2-pay. For players who could not afford to pay , they just have to play in the game long enough to earn their first bucket of gold to get CREDD. How did this transform into your whole PAY2WIN theory ? When we are talking about PAY2WIN , the open public generally are referring to those facebook games , in which purchasing with real life cash give you a HUGE advantages and leap ahead of the others. And in this case , the only thing you gotten by playing long enough is 30 days worth of subscription . And Vanilla wow doesn't has such ? I was seeing people trading gold for subscription cards , Wildstar just make it so they are officially supporting this ( with less risk of scamming cases ) . Therefore how that actually got linked up with your P2W is completely out of my idea . The fact that you brought WOW up and thus referring it as " another game " just doesn't do it for me . Every mmo in the market, with will at least study and aim to be as successful because it was the pioneer of MMORPG. You were just not making sense, thats what I am saying. No need to make a bigger misunderstanding about this. And when I read the page , they are completely irrelevant to what you were talking about . Every mmo in the market, with will at least study and aim to be as successful because it was the pioneer of MMORPG. You were just not making sense, thats what I am saying. Read my earlier comment. I only said that this game might become pay to win on top of pay to play. It still may or may not. Yes in WoW people sell time card for ingame gold. But just like gold sellers this is not directly related to the game design. I never consider these as pay to win from any games because it is a ban-able offense. If you dont like them making profit ingame or real life you can just report them to stop. What im talking about is something that completely legal to do. What MAY become a pay to win is when CREDD being sold by a player to gain easy gold (heap and bound against others) to get top equipments/upgrades and help them to gain advantages ingame. I dont know in which community you usually lurking in because it can cause different perspective in our view of pay to win definition. But majority of people that i know of view anything that can give advantages with extra money are pay to win. This is how i make sense of what im thinking/theory crafting because in the end this is what forum/discussion is for, 'theory crafting'. What make sense to a person doesnt mean it make sense to others as well. Just like a christian telling a muslim to make sense of trinity concept. Both have their own way of sense. So telling others that they're not making sense is in itself didnt made any sense. |

For me it's only pay to win if the performance-changing items you buy with real money can't be gained through normal gameplay i.e. Sword of Awesomeness with +99k to all stats is only available for real life currency.
Going with your example of people selling credd for gold, to me that's not a whole big deal. All it does is just speed up the process of you acquiring those items. It's a slight advantage because those items are available to everyone else in the game. Eventually people will own those same items without paying a single cent and that advantage loses it's value. Personally, i think some people can benefit from the credd system. In my last mmo game (swtor) our main tank couldn't play for more than 3 hours a night due to RL. He did not have the time to farm his dailies or commit to crafting so he was always broke-ass. He wanted to pay real money for gold so he could afford repairs, consumables etc, and there was no ingame support for it. So he had to buy items through the cartel shop and sell it for gold via auction house. All of this is legal via in-game interface. He did this so he could play with us and we too didn't want anyone else to tank for us. In a sense, you could say the credd system was already in place - just not as direct and obvious. |

In this type of P2P MMO, the BEST gears you can get is via raiding, so there maybe(because we don't know how good is the crafted equipment yet) the equipment u can buy is good enough for entry level raiding or maybe for pvp.
So the whole P2win thing is really moot in the game. EDIT: New DevSpeak video on Crowd Control This post has been edited by athlonmax: Aug 21 2013, 11:48 PM |
