Avoid (Can be taken if you have too much money or strike Toto):
- Magnatrap
- X1R engine treatment
- whatever treatment or booster they gonna offer to you

It is recommended to stick with an authorised Proton service center for the first three service since it is free (labor charge) and to prevent any complication from happening during warranty claims.

*Engine oil price may change from time to time subject to SC's discretion.

Q2: Should I do alignment and balancing on my first service? Can I do it under the tree?

If you have alignment and balancing issues during the 11- 999 km period of driving your car, hop over to a SC immediately and they will rectify it free of charge. Above 1,000km alignment and balancing is not covered under warranty so you may proceed to your trusted alignment and balancing sifu or just go do alignment under a coconut tree.

Q3: OMG OMG OMG! My car 5,000 km already. I am so excited for my second service, what should I do? OMG OMG OMG!

Refer <Q1>

Q4: What engine oil should I take? Mineral? Semi synthetic? Synthetic? Minyak masak cap petai?

Please do no use minyak masak cap petai although minyak masak cap pisau has some nutty aroma. They could be useful if you wish to fry an egg or a fish during traffic jam to cure your hunger but your engine will not receive any sufficient protection after 100 yards you poured the oil in.

Normally, it is recommended to take semi-synthetic since it offers benefits of fully synthetic at a fraction of a price. If fully synthetic price isn't an issue for you, you may go ahead and opt for it.

Q5: Can I take fully synthetic during the first three service (1,000 km, 5,000 km & 10,000 km)?

Although you can opt for fully synthetic for the three initial service, it is recommended to stick with semi-synthetic for the first two service (1,000 km & 5,000km). Reason is, both intervals are relatively short and therefore it is wasted if one opt to pour in fully synthetic. From 10,000km onwards, you may opt to pour in fully synthetic if your budget permits.
Q6: OMG OMG OMG! My car 10,000 km already. I am so excited for my third service, what should I do? OMG OMG OMG!

Refer <Q3>

Q7: OMG OMG OMG! My car 15,000 km already. I am so excited for my fourth service, what should I do? OMG OMG OMG!

You should pay a visit to an authorized service center near you as soon as possible. Item to be taken are:

- Engine Oil (semi-synthetic) [RM 109]*
- Oil Filter [RMRM12.22]
- Oil Drain Gasket [RM3.32]

Optional:
- windscreen washer

Avoid (Can be taken if you have too much money or strike Toto):
- Magnatrap
- X1R engine treatment
- whatever treatment or booster they gonna offer to you

Do note that from 15,000km onwards, you will be charged labour charge for every single service you do in a Proton authorized service center. For every normal servicing, the labour charged will be RM55.00*.

*Labour charge may change from time to time subject to Proton's discretion.

Q8: OMG OMG OMG! My car 20,000 km already. I am so excited for my fifth service, what should I do? OMG OMG OMG!

You should pay a visit to an authorized service center near you as soon as possible. Item to be taken are:

- Engine Oil (semi-synthetic) [RM 109]*
- Oil Filter [RMRM12.22]
- Oil Drain Gasket [RM3.32]
- Spark Plug [RM 38.00]
- Brake Fluid [RM70]
- Radiator Coolant [RM30.00]
- Air Filter [RM 16.71]

Optional:
- windscreen washer

Avoid (Can be taken if you have too much money or strike Toto):
- Magnatrap
- X1R engine treatment
- whatever treatment or booster they gonna offer to you

Labor charge: RM 100.00*

*Labour charge may change from time to time subject to Proton's discretion.

Q9: OMG OMG OMG! My car 20,000 km already. I am so excited for my fifth service, but after read Q8, I feel sadding liao coz not enuf money. Ayam sad sad.gif

Afraid not, you may skimp on a few item above and bring forward it to the 25,000km service.

You may choose either:

LYN Saga thread edisi tikus recommended package 1:

- Engine Oil (semi-synthetic) [RM 109]*
- Oil Filter [RMRM12.22]
- Oil Drain Gasket [RM3.32]
- Spark Plug [RM 38.00]
- Radiator Coolant [RM30.00]

skipped item to be brought forward to 25k km service: brake fluid & Air filter

or

LYN Saga thread edisi tikus recommended package 2:

- Engine Oil (semi-synthetic) [RM 109]*
- Oil Filter [RMRM12.22]
- Oil Drain Gasket [RM3.32]
- Brake Fluid [RM70]
- Air Filter [RM 16.71]

skipped item to be brought forward to 25k km service: spark plug & Radiator coolant

--------
Optional:
- windscreen washer

Avoid (Can be taken if you have too much money or strike Toto):
- Magnatrap
- X1R engine treatment
- whatever treatment or booster they gonna offer to you

Labor charge: RM 75.00* - RM100*

*Labour charge may change from time to time subject to Proton's discretion.

Disclaimer: Just dont go to the SC ans say "I want that LYN Saga thread edisi tikus recommended package 2 for my current service." They will look at you and say "Are you on crack or something?" Just tell them the item you want and don't want.

Q10: Refering to Q9, Why skip here and skip there one? Nanti kereta rosak how?

Brake fluid normally has a lifespan of two years, therefore an additional 5,000km will do no harm to the vehicle braking system.

Radiator coolant normally has a lifespan of two to three years, therefore an additional 5,000km will do no harm to the vehicle cooling system. Just remember, DO NOT ADD ONLY TAP WATER INTO YOUR VEHICLE COOLING SYSTEM!

The paper air filter fuction is to filter out huge particles such as sand, away from your intake chamber. As long as the air filter is still inside, an additional 5,000km will do no harm to the vehicle air intake system.

Normal copper core spark plugs can last up to 40,000km, therefore an additional 5,000km will do no harm to the vehicle ignition system.

Q11: Since the items above can last so long, why not I use it till the maximum lifespan?

While some items such as brake fluid and radiator coolant is fine to be used till its maximum lifespan, but it is recommended to do periodic check on both items (especially brake fluid) and replace it if it needed to. Never wait till any components to break down before changing them. When a component starts breaking down, chances are, it will "infect" other parts too.

As for high wear and tear item such as copper spark plug, they usually degrade after just 20,000km. Although it may still operate above 20,000km, but chances are, the sparks it ignite isn't big enough to make a full combustion and therefore, your car will start to feel sluggish and thirsty. It is just like calling an old marathon runner to run a 100m sprint race. Although he can still run, but probably he wont be able to run as fast during his younger days.

Q12: Who is V12Kompressor? Why should I trust you?

V12Kompressor is just a nobody who enjoy his time playing tikus game. In the end, it is up to your own common sense to decide what is right or wrong for your car. God grants you common sense. Use it.

Today drove a client's FLX exec nearly accident! Its my fault I was rushing through Jln Istana doing like 120kmh, didn't really pay attention to the meters. It was a curve & suddenly saw a car broke down at fast lane! Instant reflect look for escape on the middle lane but got traffic, the next thing I can remember to do is hard brake! The brake force from soft to turn hard can be felt instantaneously. I remember my right foot was feeling the brake pedal rejecting/vibrating like a warp disc rotor. I release my thumb from the inner diameter of the steering wheel to avoid injury, and was anticipating a full frontal collision.

In split second, the right foot vibrating sensation stopped. The car was fully stopped. By visual judgement I saw the distance between the FLX ayam driving was about a feet close to the broke down vehicle infront. Now only I realized the car infront is a Carens. I engage R shift, release my right foot but the car aint move. Only I realized my left foot also on the brake pedal laugh.gif

Phew!

Just got enough time to compose myself, sitting down at mamaks enjoy my "so called MILO but it's not" malt chocolate drink. My hands are still shivering, my right feet still have the Dejavu everytime I step on the brake pedal. I've been holding my phone typing, erasing, type again, erase again, trying to think, what can I contribute at this event. Finally I've made up my mind to follow my many years driving experience, forget about all theory I've learned but boil it down to HABIT. It's my personal driving habit.

Chain of events that may contribute to a possible disaster
  • I'm a hardcore manual driver. All my life I have never experience much of ABS braking even back in the old days when I was driving 260kph in my E36 328i
  • May be some of the time when I experienced the ABS, but I didn't realized it
  • Just because I'm so used to manual, as the car speed reduced, my left foot will automatically hit on the clutch
  • As there's no clutch pedal for a CVT(or AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION), automatically my left foot was jammed on the brake pedal together with my right foot
  • If I realized my left foot should remain at the foot rest, I supposed my right foot may not have apply enough force to stop the car and or trigger the ABS function
  • I've lost control countless time in different cars, be it intentional or unintentional. I even crashed my car before in accident, but this kind of full brake near miss event is 1st time, especially in an auto car
  • I've always driving in the middle lane at Jln Istana. Somehow or rather I was on the right lane today, may be I was in a rush and thus subconsciously picked the fast lane. I've totally omitted the fact that I can't see the traffic infront.

I think I have a simple stupid conclusion for myself, and may be a possible good advice to others before it's too late.
  1. If your'e not familiar with the car, just drive slowly. If you're not familiar with the road, also have to drive slowly. If you're not familiar with the car and the road, better get somebody drive you to get familiar with the road
  2. For a manual car driver, suddenly changes of left foot habit can be done. But the basic instinct/reflect will not be taken away. At the above emergency event, if I continue let my right foot feel the threshold braking, I would have crashed the car and shouting at Plotong why the useless ABS was introduced.
  3. Luckily the car is ABS, I imagine if I was driving a normal 4AT car without ABS, the same event may be fatal. If I already have my right foot doing threshold braking, as the car slowdown my left foot would have accidentally "kick" on the ... pedal that I thought it's clutch ... and threshold braking gone become jam brakes.
  4. Avoid attacking blind spot corner like Jln Istana. Come to think of it, there are several spot in Mahameru, Federal highway. However Federal is safer because the guard rail wasn't as high, nor plants blocking the road.

I know you got skill. I know that kind of 100R corner is fun to attack cause the car wont turtle yes you can increase speed to feel G-Force. I know you've got the best brake in the world. The truth is, what if there's obstacle right after the blind spot. There's a very good chance that you hit the brick wall and everything stopped instantaneously, including yourself.

Cheers and drive safe, people.

On the topic of ABS, the Vios at home must have the most sensitive ever. Just now went out for supper, just slowing the car down slightly faster than usual was enough to trigger it....tak tak tak tak all the way around the corner laugh.gif
*
Oh it will make sound? blink.gif All I can remember was the brake pedal felt something like a badly bengkoked disc brake. The pedal rejecting/vibrating like mad but didn't hear any other sound mellow.gif

Now when you meantion VIOS the ABS, there was once I was sending a dugong back to the shop in Serdang Raya. You know la those used car outside private road is gravel. I was happily riding the dugong and suddenly 1 apek turned out from 1 of the used car. I panic so I ma jam the brake lo since my speed is about 40 or 60kph nia. Guess what.... no ABS kick in. The car gradually slide towards my right. During that time I know masok longkang is unavoidable so I bent my arms slightly to allow dampening during impact. I shut my eyes tight ready for airbag hit my glasses...

When I open my eyes.... the car was totally stopped, but at JALAN UTAMA blink.gif The dugong hopped over the drain and landed on the mainroad laugh.gif That day customer didn't make it take that car due to personal reason, instead the sales man who witness my near miss accident bought the car himself the very same day after customer declined to sign the paper doh.gif He was saying, saw how a good car was built to avoid such traumatic incident, he's certain the 08 VIOS is 1 of the best car in the world sweat.gif

I didn't know there's a safety feature call over jump a drain whistling.gif

If its a MyBi, either the car terbalik or trashed into longkang ady. Usually when I drib Mybi, I drib really gently to the extend like makcik go pasar that kind a speed. Instead, I rather enjoy the akon in Mybi. Its not really super duper cool or huge wind, but I felt the wind blown out from the vent just nice & felt natural. Normally when I drib clients Mybi, the only thing I will fiddle is the thermostat. All the way MAX laugh.gif Brake... Where got brake? Stick my foot out use my shoe rubber to brake better than the brake pedal shakehead.gif

lhwj
Experienced driver in none assisted braking vehicle will have a stronger sense of braking feedback compare to ABS user. The right foot reaction to different level of brake pedal action is much precised then other driver. I however felt overwhelmed by the ABS reaction despite I drove tremendous amount of vehicle in my life. I do believe a person that familiar with ABS, they will rely too much on assistance. As & when ABS not present, the hard pedalling part will contribute to a major disaster due to wheels lock.

I myself a stick & clutch worshiper, driving an auto car the brake pedal is always my concern. I tend to accidentally use my left foot to strike on the brake pedal when my left foot seeking for clutch action. I understand the common sense for driving an auto car the left foot should always glued to the foot rest. That is under normal driving circumstances, but in an unforeseen event, basic instant reaction will kick in subconciously as a result both feet will hit hard on the same pedal.

My point is, a manual driver can drive an auto car with no problem. I believe in an emergency event, the same manual driver will react stupidly on a none ABS automactic vehicle. As for a usual ABS equiped vehicle driver, they'll most probably hit the brake hard and hoping for miracle.

Whether GaGa ABS good or bad, but I have an entirely different perception & understanding of a car's braking capacity since yesterday incident. I drove more carefully today as I travel to work. I pay more attention to my right foot reaction as I'm reaching traffic red light. My press-depress on the brake pedal goes from soft, then stronger force to stop the car rapidly, then gradually release to cut down innertia to avoid vomit. As the car reach a standstill, my right foot automatically press hard to prevent the car rolling forth/backward.

I appreciate our human body was built this way that all the basic reaction was controlled by the other part of the brain's logic thinking. If not for the incident, probably until now I have not realize pressing the brake pedal is another engineering subject. Ayam gonna cut a chicken & burn josstick later, tonight go church find a priest tok kok sing song. Thank God who look after my clumsy arse.
