DIGOS CITY—The tension surrounding the Sabah invasion has hit social media, with Malaysian supporters and haters putting their thoughts on Princess Jacel Kiram on the microblogging service Twitter.
Jacel was the former spokesperson for her clan that is claiming Sabah.
Jacel’s Twitter account, which now has more than 5,000 followers since it went live on March 13, as well as other blog sites, found a number of Malaysian men saying she could be an actress if she wanted to.
Twitter user Malaysian Narimah Nahalan (@narimanahalan) said Jacel could even qualify to model for Jakel, a very popular chain of fabric stores in Malaysia.
One Malaysian guy, obviously smitten by Jacel, went even  further, offering himself to be her lover.
“As a princess who wants to claim Sabah, here’s a guy you need to know and love,” Public Rin (@ditapis) wrote on Jacel’s Twitter account, @jacelkiram.
Another Twitter user said that if Jacel was not married, he was ready to give her children.
m.a.i@NYoRK (@nyork118), who has been critical of the Kiram family, describing its members as “murderers,” turned starstruck: “I am tweeting with a Princess… wow…”
On Facebook, a Malaysian suggested he was ready to give anything to the Princess in return for love. “Even the sun and moon,” he wrote.
Another reposted a comment by Facebook user Leftie Le’l Stuart, which said, “She cooks very well,” adding that he would have no regrets if he was lucky enough to win the princess’ hand.
The Facebook user told the Inquirer that Jacel cooks beef rendang, a favorite dish among Malaysians that is normally served only on special occasions.
Jacel’s Twitter account also drew the interest of young Malaysian political leaders.
Khairy Jamaluddin, youth leader of the United Malays Nationalist Organization (Umno), asked Tan Keng Liang, youth leader of the Kedah-based Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia, to check on @jacelkiram.
“The invading faux princess @jacelkiram is now on Twitter. Unleash your unending tweets & end this conflict,” Tan said.

KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 – Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail should quickly file for a court order to nip the annual rent Malaysia pays the Sulu sultanate for Sabah to protect the country’s sovereignty, MP Karpal Singh said today.
The veteran lawyer and federal lawmaker (picture) said the court review was a necessary procedure to stop the Philippines from further staking ownership to the north Borneo state, based on a 17th-century claim from a Filipino Muslim clan that invaded Sabah last month, and triggered clashes that have killed eight Malaysian policemen and two soldiers.
“As an independent country, we should not be paying lease money. By paying, we are accepting that we are not independent,” the Bukit Gelugor MP was quoted as saying in George Town today by The Star Online news portal.

“With the passage of time and with Sabah having joined Malaysia as a sovereign state by having ambassadorial level representation in the country, it clearly means that the Philippines cannot lay any claim to Sabah,” he added.

Karpal, who is also DAP chairman, said the government’s top lawyer could seek a review of the 1938 Borneo High Court decision to initiate Malaysia’s bid to halt the RM5,300 annual payment to heirs of the Sulu sultanate.

“It is my view that the cessation payment constitutes a fit and proper case for the High Court in Kota Kinabalu to review the 1938 decision and order that the cessation payment be discontinued immediately,” he was quoted as saying.

Manila has been reported to be mulling taking the Sulu sultanate’s claim on Sabah to be adjudicated at the International Court of Justice at the Hague.

The Sulu Sultanate has laid claim to Sabah, saying it had merely leased North Borneo in 1878 to the British North Borneo Company for an annual payment of 5,000 Malayan dollars then, which was increased to 5,300 Malayan dollars in 1903.

The sultanate has claimed that the payment amounts to rental of Sabah, but Malaysia has argued that it is instead payment for the sultanate’s ceding of its rights over the land.

Sabah, however, joined Malaya, Sarawak and Singapore to form Malaysia in 1963, after which Malaysia continued paying an annual stipend of RM5,300 to the Sulu sultanate on the basis of the sultanate ceding the Borneo state.

In a referendum organised by the Cobbold Commission in 1962, the people of Sabah voted overwhelmingly to join Malaysia.

LAHAD DATU: Pesuruhjaya Polis Sabah Datuk Hamza Taib berkata anggota keluarga Jamalul Kiram antara 104 orang yang ditahan di bawah Akta Kesalahan Keselamatan (Langkah-Langkah Khas) 2012 (SOSMA).

"Mereka yang ditahan berada di sini dipercayai anggota keluarga (Jamalul) Kiram yang menggunakan nama lain...di sini mereka guna nama lain, di Filipina mereka guna nama lain. Ini kita sedang siasat," katanya pada sidang media bersama Panglima Medan Tentera Darat, Lt Jen Datuk Seri Zulkiple Kassim di Felda Sahabat 16 di sini, hari ini.
Beliau berkata, operasi membanteras pengganas tidak hanya tertumpu kepada keluarga Jamalul Kiram, yang didakwa dalang insiden pencerobohan di Sabah sejak 12 Februari lalu, kerana polis turut menjejaki kaum keluarga anggota militan lain yang dipercayai terlibat insiden pencerobohan itu.

"Kita juga turut menyiasat orang lain yang mempunyai kaitan dengan pengganas di bawah SOSMA," katanya tanpa memberitahu bila mereka akan didakwa di mahkamah.

Mengulas kematian seorang tahanan di bawah SOSMA di Semporna semalam, beliau berkata, individu itu meninggal dunia di hospital akibat sakit dan bukannya membunuh diri seperti yang didakwa sesetengah pihak.

Sehingga kini, seramai 104 orang telah ditahan di bawah SOSMA dan 232 lagi ditahan atas pelbagai kesalahan lain.

Dalam pada itu, Hamza berkata, keadaan di seluruh Sabah adalah terkawal termasuk di Semporna dan Lahad Datu, kecuali di kawasan operasi di gugusan Tanjung Labian, yang kini dalam proses pembersihan. - BERNAMA
