5 inch screen on the s4 is not good for me..
Because I think 5.5 inch is nice already.. anything smaller would render it redundant as one could not experience the maximum pleasure of full hd.. |

QUOTE(Joker87 @ Mar 14 2013, 05:36 PM) wow, ur battery is insane... it's hard to judge based on just SOT bro . If u r using apps that requires heavy use of processor + GPU for example playing games like Wild Blood or NFS , your SOT time will definitely be different then those who used it for normally like social network apps . |

Playing NFS and other games shows up on the Summary page. Definitely games taxing the GPU will drain the battery very quickly. But I recall some of aspire's shots showed he was playing games and still had 4-5 hrs SOT in total.IINM, on the Note2 battery, you could like play NFS for up to 2hrs AT LEAST. That was the longest time before I took the phone away from my son |

More activity around the device-du-jour
http://www.theverge.com/2013/3/13/4102174/...detailed-images The article itself is uninteresting. Please read the comments. As of right now, there are 547 comments. Many of them are fairly long writeups, and a provide a good indication of what people are thinking about Samsung's actions. Some comments: Oh and why does it matter what the phone looks like when almost everyone puts a case on them! Honestly! Such a materialistic world. There is no difference in the quality of plastic Samsung uses and the Nokia/HTC ones. You just think they’re more premium just because you think the design is better. Flexible does not mean cheap. Samsung has learned a lesson, and it’s to continue what they have been doing as it is clearly paying off. The HTC One might look great, but the SGSIV is going to outsell it 10:1 because people will recognise it when they see one. All these years you hear Android fans mocking Apple’s designs and saying no innovation as they feel it hasn’t changed (which is completely wrong, but I won’t go there). Now Samsung does it and the phone looks exactly the same the only difference is Apple can actually make hardware and Samsung clearly can’t. Plastic (or Polycarbonate which is just a prettier word than plastic) is not innovation. Neither is simply making the display larger because you can’t fit the components in the size of the current phone. So now using aluminum or glass is innovation? Gee, I didn’t know people only cared about which beer container material (plastic, aluminum, or glass) was used to determine innovativeness. FYI, Apple made their display bigger and the phone itself taller with the iPhone 5. Hypocrisy right there. Aluminum doesn’t make the phone inherently better. Harder to make != innovation. I could invent a less efficient heat engine and that would not be innovation. Uh… the design did change. Different shape, home button, camera, sides, size, thickness, etc. Plastic is not a poor material. There’s nothing to say it’s better or worse overall than glass or aluminum. I didn’t say that the S4 was an innovative revolution and neither did I consider the iPhone 5 the pinnacle of innovation. Only according to Apple’s press releases does 1080p not matter. Basically every review site on the planet has praised 1080p as better than the usual 300 ppi displays. Just look around at the numerous comments, even the Samsung fans able to admit that the design has remained largely the same – the defence being that they like it. ======= None of the comments are mine. I just posted them or excerpts from them for your reading pleasure. Please don't complain TL:DR This post has been edited by joytest: Mar 14 2013, 06:04 PM |

BTW, a really practical use of technology at-hand
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-21769537 They attached an $8 (£5) ball lens to the handset camera lens, and used a cheap torch and double-sided tape to create an improvised microscope. ...... When the results were double-checked with a laboratory light microscope, the device had managed to pick up 70% of the samples with infections present - and 90% of the heavier infections. ...... "Ultimately we'd like something like this to be a useful diagnostic test. We want to put it in the hands of someone who might be able to use it," he said. "70% (accuracy) isn't really good enough, we want to be above 80% and we're not quite there yet," he added. "The technology is out there. We want to use materials that are affordable and easy to procure." ..... Dr Bogoch and his team, which included experts from Massachusetts General Hospital and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, said the only reason he used an Apple iPhone was because it was his own handset. "You need the ball lens to help with the magnification - but any mobile phone with a decent camera and a zoom function will be sufficient," he explained. The smallest eggs visible using the smartphone were 40-60 micrometres in diameter. =========== Any sifus here that can explain a bit better what is a "ball lens" and how small does it get? aspire2oo6 ? How can we tape one to our camera and make it a microscope too? I read once before that we can use the lens from an old CD/DVD drive and achieve a good macro effect as well. |
